  1. We've played 120 games, Suzuki has started 91. He hasn't been overused, unless you mean his performance hasn't warranted how much he has played, then I'd agree. He wasn't overused last year either.
  2. especially with how poorly he's performed, especially lately. They could promote the heck out of the outfield of the future.
  3. don't look now, but the Tigers are going to end the day a half game back of us..
  4. I have given credit to Ryan for things. For example, I like how many youngsters came up this year. I would like a couple more, but that might just be greedy. I actually liked the Dozier signing, because I am a big fan of his and have been since before he was in the majors, but he was going to be with us the same amount of time even if he went to arbitration for three years. If Ryan had bought out some years, that would have been a good move, IMO. I was against the Hunter signing. I thought it was an overpay. I get the PR part, the ticket sales, the narrative, the whole thing, but I don't care about that (but I get why the team does, he's a money maker). What I care about is putting the best team possible on the field and/or trying to play for the future. With this team, those should go hand in hand. Hunter's season numbers/play show it was a bad signing. And if he has to be rested in order to perform, it makes the signing even more suspect. The saving money part, money isn't this team's problem and contracts will come off the book before big money is, hopefully, needed for the kids we hope become stars. I would rather given Ryan credit for things I actually think he deserves credit for. I try to do so. Right now, I think the good is well overshadowed by the bad.
  5. We have lost 2/3 of our games since the All Star break. Took us less than a week to give up sole position of the 2nd wild card and be behind 3 teams for it. How much worse could benching Hunter for the future face of the franchise hurt the team? I think people might have been excited to see the young #1 prospect 5 tool prospect play, even if it was at the expense of a former star. Start Rosario/Buxton/Hicks. Get the fanbase excited for the future. Use Hunter as a 4th OF and DFA Robinson.
  6. What happened to your argument about saving us money? And yes, appearances matter. Like, say, when a GM, whose team is holding down a playoff spot, does nothing to help his team at the deadline?. How do you think the whole team, young and old, feel about that? Think they'll wonder about that when it's contract time. Hunter did. Santana did. I am sure the young players are concerned with their future contracts, but those are also a long ways out. I'm sure Buxton's bigger concern is about getting on and staying on the 25 man roster as opposed to being service timed by the team. And yes, cherry picking. I am talking about evaluating them on what they have done the whole season for our team. When did I point out just their bad months in our discussion? I'm talking whole season of work which includes the good and the bad. As far as Hunter. You want to say it was a good signing. That paying him 10M (which is an overpay, BTW) was a good idea and then also say we should have limited the playing time for a guy we are paying 10M to? That's very confusing. You pay a guy 10M, you should expect him to be able to play a full season. If he can't, maybe it wasn't a good signing.
  7. we have won 33% of our games since the All Star break. That's 30 games or almost 20% of a whole season.
  8. Once Ryan bailed on the season at the deadline (while other teams in playoff contention went for it), it should have all been about next year meaning playing the guys with a future on this team and minimizing the playing time of players with no future with the team. They could have started Rosario/Buxton/Hicks a huge majority of the time with a small chunk left for Hunter who has performed horribly since before the deadline. One could probably argue that particular defensive alignment could have helped us win more games than Hunter's ever decreasing offensive production could have anyway. One of the prevailing arguments defending his inaction at the deadline was that there was no point even trying since to improve the team since we weren't going to be real playoff contenders. In that case, how can one then argue that playing Hunter needed to happen because we were still shooting for the playoffs? There's a disconnect there.
  9. Save US money? What does saving the Pohlads some money have to do with it? I could see where that argument would be a big plus for the Pohlads, but makes no difference for the fans. Maybe they saved some money on Dozier but they were going to have him that same amount of time, period. Good for the Pohlads they likely got a deal. I'm of the opinion Perkins should have been dealt, myself and yeah, Perkins gave the Pohlads a deal, but still. Why does it matter? It's not money that's the problem. And I don't care if the Pohlads, who were given most of a stadium by taxpayers, saved some money. As far as a message to the young players (I don't say OTHER young players because neither Dozier or Perkins is a young player), what kind of message do you think was sent by Ryan's inaction at the deadline while they still had a playoff spot all to themselves? As far as Hunter and Boyer, like all players, they should be evaluated on the whole season/contract, not cherry picking time frames..
  10. I think you might be moving the goalposts. You said it'd be bad because it would take valuable time from Hicks and Rosario. And that wouldn't actually NEED to happen. Now you're talking how they couldn't stop playing Hunter (even though he's playing horribly). So I guess we can switch to talking about why they would feel the need to play a 40 year old with no future on the team (and who hasn't been playing well) at the expense of developing the young players.
  11. Why would they have needed to take ANY playing time from Hicks and Rosario if Buxton had been up? Three OF spots. How about taking time from the 40 year old on a one year contract playing bad defense and providing an OPS a slight hair over .700? And, um, how is playing Robinson so much affecting the development of Hicks and Rosario?
  12. I have never once questioned his intelligence. I question his nature in regards to it being a good fit in today's game.
  13. Yes, Berrios and Norris were right there. Cool. (and Norris has sucked this year, BTW. Berrios, not so much). I did point out that was the highest price paid. Doesn't change the point. People keep tossing out how trading Buxton and Sano for an upgrade to make the playoffs this year would have been horrible. They use those two names most. And no one that good was traded even with all the quality moved. And, also, not one Twins fan I read who pushed for trades suggested trading for a one year rental.
  14. There is only so much room on the 25 man roster and the bust rate of even the highest prospects is pretty high.
  15. The best prospect traded and look at all the talent that moved.
  16. Most of the quality players that switched hands did so at not such big cost. Price was probably the most expensive and it didn't cost Toronto a Berrios, Sano or Buxton type.
  17. If TR ever made anything close to a bold move at the trade deadline in any of his years as GM, one might be somewhat inclined to believe it was part of an overall strategy. He's had plenty of times where he could have taken an actual very good team and made it better for a playoff run and didn't. So I think it's less about picking his time as opposed to it just not being who he is. And adding talent to the roster shouldn't have to happen ONLY when we are serious W Series contenders. First, there's no guarantee if/when that ever happens and the more talent you get, the closer you get to being true W Series contenders.
  18. Hmmm, if only we had a quality rotation that didn't require so many relievers to be on the roster to be mismanaged during games.
  19. When a team is holding onto a playoff spot and hold pat at the deadline, one has to wonder how much they care about actually winning this year. Even moreso when teams they are competing with for playoff spots actually go out and truly improve their teams at the deadline. Makes one wonder if they care about winning this year or are just incapable of making moves to improve at the deadline (whether it's because of Ryan's nature or that it's just much harder for him than the majority of GMs).
  20. I'm sure you knew what kind of answers you'd get when you asked this. Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and Jessica Jones would be proud:-)
  21. Which is harder to understand? That or our team's constant need to throw completely hittable pitches on 0-2 and 1-2 counts? Teams know our compulsive hatred for throwing balls and for walking people as a philosophy, they know there are going to keep getting hitter's pitches even on pitcher's counts. Stops them from having to take such a defensive approach during what should be complete pitcher's counts. Been going on for years. That is how the ARod homer happens.
  22. Asked what stats he values most, Indians pitching coach Mickey Callaway cited FIP and xFIP. Kluber ranks 3rd and 4th, respectively, in MLB.
  23. I can't either, though them intentionally beaning batters and buzzing their heads (with the manager defending it), is starting to wear on me :-)
