  1. and you get an upgrade at two defensive positions.
  2. Yankees are in first place right now in a division that has 4 teams at .500 or better and would have three of the five AL teams in the playoffs if the playoffs started today. They are 2nd in runs scored in the majors (30 more than #3). They are a good team. They just aren't a great team.
  3. As long as he's showing the team how to win, doesn't matter what his offensive and defensive contributions are. He was a great pickup and may very well another great signing by TR next year. Because everyone knows it's because of him that we are even close to a playoff spot right now.
  4. consistency or talent.
  5. I'm surprised anyone actually stopped worrying about our pitching staff. As far as Gibson himself goes, he's not close to being an ace and will never be one. He doesn't have the stuff. He is what he is at this point. His ceiling is a #3 type pitcher but he's more likely going to settle in as a #4 type pitcher on a poor pitching staff.
  6. I wish I could easily accept what they say as true.
  7. I see a movie in the near future :-)
  8. We got to see a bunch of youngsters, we will likely still play some meaningful games in September. This season, for me, has been successful. We are slowly moving in the right direction. One of my biggest issues is that it seems they have decided that May is a bullpen guy. It is unfortunate because I think he's easily a #3 pitcher (at worse) and those guys have real value.
  9. Mauer has sucked too, but not sure why that matters when discussing Hunter. Hunter's UZR is slightly over 2, not close to 3. and is an overall negative on defense. It's somewhat hard to produce less than no one at all. He's not given us much from an on-field view, especially from a position that is supposed to be an offensive force. Overall, 25th out of 32 players with 300 or more PA in RF. It is sad this was the best TR could do and speaks to our farm system. I imagine he inspired a lot of ticket sales.
  10. .238/.292/.420. wRC+ of 94 and -8 DRS. 0.8 WAR.
  11. At this point, I'd be shocked if May ends up in the rotation permanently. As dumb as that would be.
  12. .238/.292/.420. and -8 DRS. 0.8 WAR.
  13. Since the Blue Jays traded for Tulo, they have sold half million tickets according to the game day broadcast from the game going on right now. There was a huge surge in people buying tickets.
  14. So, they took Kohl and created a pitch to contact, groundball pitcher. Sweeeeeeeeet.
  15. 'WAR is context neutral, so it doesn’t account for any kinds of sequencing, which can have a big impact on W-L record; just ask the A’s about that. It’s also a linear model, where team run scoring is not linear, so at the team level, it’s better to use something like BaseRuns.' 'WAR isn’t “inaccurate” because it doesn’t align with team win-loss records perfectly. It isn’t designed to, because team W-L records include a lot of things that aren’t player-skills.'
  16. what kind of slashline did you figure Hunter would give? how are you gauging the impact of the three players?
  17. Twins OF: 25th in WAR. 27th in wRC+ (90), and 25th in DRS (-20 runs saved). Totally fine in the OF.
  18. ok. this is what I read on MLB Dot Com The Mariners' walk-off victory over the Orioles on Tuesday night capped an unprecedented slate in Major League Baseball. For the first time in the league's history, all 15 home teams won on the same day. Prior to Tuesday, the closest the home teams have come was 12 wins more than a century ago, on May 23, 1914, according to Elias Sports Bureau So, still pretty impressive.
  19. First time in history, all the home teams won.
  20. I I must be tired, because I don't know what you mean here. I compared him to other RF in the first half.
  21. yeah, a top notch get for our team by Bill Smith.
  22. His first half hitting was .275/.312/.444. OPS+ of 112. Average wRC+ for a RF (and only 7% over league average for all position players). Along with below average defense. WAR of 1.1. So, I'm gonna guess we would have right around the same as we we ended up in the first half, give or take a win or two. Now, how much has he hurt us since?
  23. My preseason pick for AL MVP, Josh Donaldson, is tearing it up this year. As great as Trout has been (and always is) I still think Donaldson wins it.
  24. Yes, but can someone build up timing and hand strength in the majors, or can that just happen in AAA? :-) I hope this was taken in jest by those reading it. This reason has been batted back and forth and now it's just fun. No insults intended.
