  1. Wouldn't throwing at Bautista qualify as one of those unwritten rules that are stupid? We had a thread entitled that, didn't we? We could try not to offer up meatballs to go over the fence. And most of our guys don't throw hard enough where the batter couldn't get out of the way :-)
  2. They don't, at all. They have a hard schedule. I have illustrated this a few times on here to include a link to a story that said of all the teams over.500 we have the hardest schedule after the AS break. Yeah, we've played some of the tough teams since, but it is still a tough remaining schedule.
  3. Rodney just blew a save
  4. McClendon just did a defensive substitution of Seth Smith for Franklin Gutierrez. Unless Franklin is hurt, that's very odd.
  5. I wish I could watch Duffey's debut.
  6. I am not in the trade Plouffe camp. I am just asking for trade suggestions.
  7. I'm not saying I am right by any stretch. It's just my opinion. He gets no love, anywhere. So it makes me wonder how he is thought of by people in the game. I could be way off though. We may find out. If we do trade him, I hope I'm wrong Plus, you know, it's TR doing the trading.
  8. I honestly wish Mauer would waive his no trade clause at this point. Not because I think it would necessarily help the team (because I have my doubts), but because I hope a change of scenery would be good for him at this point.
  9. I think it's likely he's more valuable to us on the field than he will be as trade bait. He's not big name, he's not over the top great at any part of the game, he plays in a market where he doesn't get the exposure. If we are moving him only because we need to play Sano there, I'm not sure that's enough of a reason. He's averaged 3 WAR the last two seasons and this season isn't over yet. There's value in that and we have few proven valuable players at the point. Having said that, it would be interesting to see some ideas thrown out there as possibilities.
  10. So it seems many are in the trade Plouffe camp. So, two questions: 1. Who can we realistically target for him alone? 2. If we package him with someone else (or more than one other). who should it be and who do we then target? ( I guess that's technically 3 questions:-))
  11. From today's chat with Dave Cameron: Comment From David What trade do you think was the biggest overpay or underpay? Dave Cameron: Rob Kaminsky for Brandon Moss seemed like a high price for STL to pay for a platoon guy with a bad hip having a mediocre season. And the Tulo deal was probably the cheapest acquisition of a high-level player we’ve seen at the deadline in a while.
  12. Well, as a moderator, you are entitled to turn every thread into a debate about the validity of metrics without consequence. The rest of us have to follow the instructions of other moderators who have stated that isn't supposed to happen.
  13. It's also dependent on official scorers, team defense and, in the case of starters, what relievers do when brought in with runner on. I'd rather judge a starter (or any pitcher) on what he does. And again, if people want to use ERA, go for it. Doesn't matter to me. I'm just not a fan of a stat so dependent on things out of the pitcher's control. I don't know why that seems such an offensive stance to so many.
  14. The OP was Loosey, he is the original poster of this thread and what my original comment addressed.
  15. I am aware of your thoughts on the subject. Completely disagree (except for the part where you said doesn't seem particularly useful to me. I have no doubt that is true). Anyway, us disagreeing is nothing new. I'm fine with that. It's like a warm blanket. And I didn't just use advanced metrics unless strikeout totals, WHIP, Quality starts, BB per 9IP and Ks per 9IP are now considered advanced metrics. And, as many moderators have said, not every post should turn into a debate about metrics. I gave my info and said that if one still feels he's done well (which is what the OP said) then they are certainly entitled to that opinion. I'll continue to use info I think evaluates pitcher's performance best.
  16. The OP himself said he has 'actually done well'. And I use plenty of stats besides WAR (like when the debate was Pelfrey or May). You just don't like that stat so it sticks out every time someone uses it. Yet now you want to use it. And I didn't say he was awful or worthless. I said he's been pretty bad and 'He has been well, WELL, below average and nowhere near good.' Those descriptions are not the same as awful or worthless.
  17. My favorite AJ moment is when he got traded to the Giants.
  18. official scorer only effects his errors/fielding %. Not sure why we'd be looking at either of those to judge his, or anyone's, defense. I view him as an above average defender. Considering he had to learn the position relatively late (and much later than he should have), I'll take that.
  19. Sano has 3 games played at 3B this season. Are people really comfortable in saying he's going to be defensively awesome based on 6 plays?
  20. Maybe Hunter decided to stop showing the team how to win. :-)
  21. Our playoff odds are now under 10%
  22. I think the info I provided shows he's been pretty bad, but if people want to think he hasn't been, that's certainly their choice.
  23. Yeah, if you think ERA is a good indicator of pitcher performance. I don't.
  24. Sano has barely played the field and only played in 26 games. Bryant plays in the field and has played almost 4 times as many games.
