    I think some forget how much money is in the game and how little 7-8M a year gets you most of the time in regards to veteran FAs. Mauer was worth over 16M last year. If he has another year like last year with the BA/OBP and defense, he should be able to get more than that. But we'll see cause he'll be at least as good this year, and probably better.

    yeah, I am not sure how you look at what I wrote (and you quoted)about Gibson and then write what you did. What logic did you see in that quote that makes you compare what I said about Gibson to May. His bWAR? Couldn't have been bWAR (cause I don't use bWAR to back up opinions). Nor was it fWAR. I didn't mention WAR at all. I don't know how anyone compares the bWAR or fWAR between these two pitchers. Gibson has been given tons of starts, May was given half a season worth of starts then relegated to the bullpen and then been injured.

    Been quite a few quality Asian players. Yes, only one HOFer.

    Neither one of those two are anywhere near Ohtani's talent. That's why they were so inexpensive. Ohtani will need some adjustment time. None of this should be surprising.

    Why do we keep talking about what Ryan did or didn't do and/or could or couldn't do? We don't know what he was allowed to spend. We don't know if he was frugal or spent all of what he could. And even if we did, it's irrelevant now. We need to move on instead of continuously slamming/defending his moves/non-moves. He is gone.

    The last 10 games you mentioned, he had 3 games where he didn't even pitch 5 innings. 7 of those 10 games he pitched 6 or more innings (and in 1 of those 7 he gave up 5 ER). Basically, six of those were good outings and he finished his season with a clunker (3.2 IP, 3 ER). I know a lot of people are convinced he's figured it out, or will say that kind of ending is fine for a #5 pitcher. I believe only the latter to be true.

    Angels made quite a few good moves this year, not just Ohtani. I think they will be fine.

    Best thing about getting Odo and Lynn, once Santana gets back, Gibson should (hopefully) be out of the rotation. Santana Berrios Odo Lynn Mejia/May/Gonsalves Next year Santana Berrios Odo Pineda Mejia/May/Gonsalves These are true MLB rotations.

    The FO had a very, VERY good offseason. I mean, yeah, Darvish would have been great and Cobb would have been better than Lynn, but the EFFORT put forth by this FO has to be commended and I think this team got much better.

    Yeah, Neil Walker is still a very good player. A healthy Walker is a top 10 MLB 2B. He was #8 in wRC+ last year in an off year for him.

    29 1Bs had 500 PA or more. He ranked 19th in wRC+. So, a bit below average for sure if just talking offense, but I'll go ahead and take into account his defense too. He was right around average for 1Bs and I imagine he'll be even better this year.

    But then we look at Mauer's numbers with men on base and runners in scoring position and wonder, do we want someone who does so well in both scenarios batting leadoff either? Mauer In 2017: RISP: .333, .465, .472. Men on base: .318, .425, .444. He does BETTER with men on base and RISP, and he does better than Dozier in both situations too.
