  1. Garver's .928 OPS and 159 wRC+, compared to Vargas' .821 OPS and 129 wRC+ at the same level.
  2. Super important for Big Sexy to be on today. With the DH tomorrow, having a fully rested bullpen would be huge.
  3. Not really, CR had Palacios and Davis earlier in the year, they're now in Fort Myers. And there's a ton of guys doing really well in E-Town right now who will be ready for Low A next year.
  4. Very encouraging start from Royce Lewis. At this point, it seems unlikely he would be promoted to E-Town, which makes me wonder; will he start in E-Town next year, or will the Twins challenge him, and move him right to Low A?
  5. Legit hit. Tapper that Sano made a nice barehanded play on, just took too long with how slow the ball was moving.
  6. Buck a little rusty--he got 6 balls in that AB, but somehow still ground out.
  7. Eddie Rosario OPS's .816 against righties. Zach Granite OPS's .652 against righties. Naturally, with a righty on the mound, Granite is in the lineup. Also, my iPhone tried to autocorrect Zach to Zachary. Siri hates informality.
  8. To make the playoffs the Twins have to outperform at least 2 out of the CLE, KC, NYY, BOS, and TB group, to say nothing of the Mariners (1.5 up) and the Angels (only 0.5 back). Even with Kintzler, Garcia, and a couple more relievers, I don't think that happens. So rather than finish 84-78, and miss the wild card by 7ish games and the division by 9ish, then get nothing for Garcia, nothing for Kintzler, AND have a weaker farm system, we very much improved our depth, and can still sign both Garcia and Kintzler if we want. This was absolutely the right thing to do.
  9. Because if the player isn't actually hurt, you need their cooperation (perhaps a better word would be collusion) to make that move. If Polanco is not hurt, and not interested in a trip to Rochester, he or his agent can simply call foul on an attempted DL placement. That being said, it also doesn't make any sense to avoid playing Polanco to try an win, since we're calling the season anyways. Let him play and develop, or play and help us lose, either way is a win for the team at this point.
  10. Littell is 21, and doing extremely well in High A and AA. Ynoa is 19, and struggling (although SSS does apply) in advanced rookie ball. This is a very rudimentary analysis, but I'd say Littell>Ynoa, so to get Enns as well is a very nice move by Falvine. Unless the Braves are in love with Ynoa, they have to be pissed.
  11. Sell Santana if you get any kind of reasonable offer, since he's not likely to repeat this performance next year.
  12. Let's hope it's because either Colon is retiring or they're close to trading Santana or Garcia for a nice package.
  13. While it sort of explains the Recker acquisition, the FO still messed it up, in my opinion. Essentially, we lost Haley in order to keep Recker over Rohlfing. I think I'd rather have Haley and Rohlfing than Recker; so unless the Braves were insistent that we take Recker in order to get Garcia, I don't understand the move.
  14. As for the double switch controversy, let's just add the DH to the NL. Problem solved. For pace of play, give the pitcher 20 seconds from gloving the ball to throwing the pitch, so long as the batter is also in the box. Allow a batter one timeout per AB, and prohibit him from stepping out of the box in between pitches. Limit catchers to three mound visits per game, with a 30 second limit. Starters are limited to one trip from a pitching coach, relievers as a whole get one visit from the pitching coach. Failure by the batter to observe the rules is a strike, failure by the pitcher to observe the rules is a ball, and an extra visit by a catcher or coach is an automatic walk where every base runner advances a base. If the bases are empty, it's a two-base walk, to ensure visits aren't used as intentional walks.
  15. In the standings section, are you trying to show how far the Tigers and White Sox are behind the Twins? Because the Tigers are indeed 4 back of us, 8.5 of the Indians, but the Sox are 9 back of the Twins, 13.5 of the Indians.
  16. I don't know about anyone else, but I definitely thought Boshers and Belisle would combine for 2 perfect innings with 4 strikeouts on 25 pitches tonight.
  17. This would seem like a good place to use a lefty reliever if you're the dodgers, no?
  18. Joe is far too polite to bang anything. He'd prefer to lightly and apologetically tap.
  19. The Rockies confiscated your backpack and redistributed it to other fans? What kind of great gifts did you presciently pack it with?
  20. The fact that we've had issues in the past with trading for NL pitchers should not color our decision making process at all. Should we pass on acquiring Kershaw or Scherzer because they're from the NL? Each player should be based on their merits/similar players, and league played in is not a significant enough differentiator.
  21. It behooves the Twins to start getting an idea on how many legitimate options we have for next years rotation. We have 3 locks in Santana, Berrios, and Mejia. Santiago is probably gone, and we shouldn't count on Hughes being able to ever start again. That leaves Gibson, Slegers, Jorge, Gonsalves, and Romero as guys who could potentially contribute next year. I think it makes sense to start finding out if the potential is real or not, rather than experiment with a bunch of has-beens, and never-weres.
  22. Your strikeout is worse than a double play take is awful. Let's say 75% of the time a dp ball actually becomes a dp, 20% of the time, only one out is recorded, and 5% of the time, no outs are recorded. The expected outs for a ball hit at a middle infielder in a dp situation is therefore 1.7--which is obviously far worse than the worst case scenario of one out from the strikeout.
  23. At this point, you can't really count on Santana to give you 5-6 ace-level performances in the playoffs. He's just not performing as a 1 right now. This team, while fun, is not ready to compete in the playoffs. I hope they prove me wrong, but if they do, I hope it's done organically. Next year is the year we start getting serious.
  24. If it's Park, Palka, Murphy, Minier--or someone of that ilk, I'm good. If it's Jorge, Curtiss, Wade, Palacios--I'm not good.
