    That's clearly an inning projection. 162 innings times 3 hit batters an inning is 486.

    If RB gets the opening day nod, does that mean he’s the game thread ace, or does it mean that the true ace just wants to game thread in Puerto Rico? Also, am I crazy or should Buxton bat 8th instead of 9th, to avoid clogging bases in front of him and help turn the lineup over. A simple “Yes” will suffice.

    Except his strikeouts might be directly tied to his power. Perhaps Sano crushes the ball because when he hits it, he hits it hard. But in order to hit it hard, he has to swing hard, which makes it more likely he’ll miss. Which would mean cutting down on strikeouts is more likely to result in a 270/370/450 slash. The question is, would you rather live without the homeruns, or with the strikeouts?

    I mean, it all depends on the contract and the expectations. If it’s going to take 3 and 45, and Joe expects to start no matter what, that’s a potential issue. If, on the other hand, it’s 2 and 20, and Joe gets that if his production slips he becomes a platoon/bench bat, then full speed ahead.

    I agree that GM’s who understand it’s better to pay a 25 year old 500k for 80% of the production you get from a 30 year old making 10M is a big part of the equation not being addressed. That will only change when that 20% becomes the difference between 85 and 90 wins, rather than 75 or 80. Alternatively, MLB could expand the playoffs to 8 teams, and do actual series, rather than one gamers. Do best of 3 in the first round, best of 5 in the second, and best of 7 for the LCS and WS. This gives more teams not only playoff berths, but a more meaningful playoff experience, which makes the 20% referenced above impactful to a lot more teams.

    I think the x-factor in whether or not the Twins bring back Dozier is Royce Lewis. If Royce is holding his own in AA at the end of the year, 2 of the Twins’ top 3 prospects will be middle infielders hitting the majors in 2019. Add in Polanco, who had a better OPS in the second half than any year of Dozier’s career, and shelling out 8 figures a year for an aging guy whose best tool is power, yet refuses to bat anywhere but lead off, becomes a fairly silly proposition.

    I agree that Robbie should remain the fourth outfielder. Having a guy on your bench with a .360 OBP is a valuable thing. Robbie suffered no drop off to that OBP when pinch hitting last year, but he actually was hurt by an artificially low babip last year. Regression to the mean would give us our best bench option since Jim Thome, and a good option if anything happens to Buxton/Rosario/Kepler.

    I'm technologically challenged, and therefore can't figure out how to post the screenshot, but on August 11, 2015, in a thread called "Offseason Mock Trades", you expressly said "I'd trade Buxton for D'Arnaud straight up though".

    If Odorizzi’s peripherals we’re down last year because his injuries were lingering (2 separate DL stints), or because he was pitching himself into shape, AND he’s now healthy, I’m good with the assumption he’s a likely bounce back candidate. The low price of a guy who, through no fault of his own, projects as a utility player at best for us is also nice. That being said, if Odorizzi is truly what he showed last year, we just got a guy that’s going to make it harder to start evaluating Gonsalves and Romero at the major league level. If that’s what happens, any price was too high to pay.

    My opinion can’t be formed without qualifiers in years and dollars. 5 years and $100M? Hard pass, thanks Mr. Dozier, don’t let the door hit you on the way out. 4 years and $60M? Welcome aboard. With pace of play, it has to be asked—if baseball is struggling to attract younger fans due to the length of the games, it’s going to have a tough time remaining relevant in the next 50-100 years. Therefore, the question is whether something should be changed to save it, or preserved to lose it.

    It’s about the contract. You would find many willing trade partners for May, Duffey, Rogers, Mejia, and Kiriloff, as well as many other Twins not on this list. You would find none for Mayer.
