  1. I don't care so much about Mauer hitting second instead of third. I care about taking a guy who's hitting .130, with one walk and zero XBH, and moving him UP in the lineup. Anyone who can explain that to me is a better person than I.
  2. So, who does everyone think we should take with the first overall pick in 2016?
  3. Hunter's going to get as many at bats as his health allows. He's not a stopgap player (even though he should be). If he's healthy, he's playing. Regardless of what Hicks/Ortiz/Rosario/Buxton are doing in the minors. Just one more reason why I hated and still hate the signing.
  4. It's like the Good Lord wants Meyer or May in the rotation, and the Twins just won't listen. What is the point of moving Pelfrey back from the bullpen (where he might have created some value), instead of seeing what May or Meyer could do. I've been a Twins optimist, and sometimes apologist, for most of this decade, but I HATE this roster. Hunter, Robinson, Milone, Pelfrey, Stauffer, and Nunez have no business playing for us in the roles they're in. I'm just disgusted by this.
  5. Torii Hunter on this team is infuriating. He forces Arcia to left, where his defensive flaws go from obvious to glaring. He is himself a terrible fielder, so we have the worst possible corner fielders in the league. He forces Santana to short, instead of a corner which would be the ideal place for him, which forces Esco to the bench. The only thing Hunter does is sell jerseys to the rubes who have forgotten the disingenuous manner in which he left.
  6. It's like the Twins brass can't decide if they want to compete now, or build for the future. Because of that, they try to strike a balance between the two, and end up doing neither. They call up Arcia, Vargas, and Santana, and get production--future They sign Torii Hunter, despite the fact he worsens an already bad center field--now They seriously consider Trevor May for the rotation--future They go with Tommy Milone instead, who was not good last year, and showed no reason to be optimistic for change in spring training--now I'm getting so tired of this team continually running out tired old veterans with little to no upside, and zero chance of being on the next division-winning team (Hunter, Milone, Robinson, Stauffer). For once, just let kids who might be part of the future play, so we can find out what we actually have.
  7. Wait a minute, a start with a 1.8 WHIP, 5.4 ERA, and 5.4 k/9 qualifies as "fairly good" Tommy Milone? If that's true, cut him right now.
  8. This is a really good deal for both sides. Dozier leaves money on the table, but guarantees himself 20m. The twins save themselves money, and have Dozier as an even more attractive trade option should they choose to go that route.
  9. I think a starting 5 of Hughes, Gibson, May, Meyer, and Berrios would be exciting at least 40% of the time, but it would be exciting for the opposing lineup. I love the potential in our kids, and I'm as anxious as anyone to see them in Twins unis, but Meyer would struggle to get through the 5th inning, Berrios was ineffective in his triple-a starts at the end of last year, Buxton has 3 ab's above A ball, and Sano hasn't played in a year. Letting them start in the minors is not the end of the world.
  10. Why are we burying the lead here? Unicorn burgers? Why is Voldemort online, and writing Twins Daily articles?
  11. Is Sano really up to 260? I knew he was big, but I thought more in the 230 to 240 range. 260 is Vargas big.
  12. All I'm gonna say is that it'll be a fun year being a Chatty fan.
  13. I think this is one of those articles where higher level analysis is irrelevant to the main thrust of the article. The point is, the Twins have been bad for four straight years, and whiffing on high level draft picks for 6 straight years, thus depriving the team of fresh talent or attractive trade chips, is a big reason why. It's not necessary to run a statistical regression to determine the impact compared to other teams. Good article Parker.
  14. I have to think that, adjusted for league average, chatty is going to feature the best lineup in baseball, if not the best overall roster. How many other teams in the minors have legitimate big league prospects at every position?
  15. For 4 years at 17 per. Way to keep kicking that salary can down the road Dombrowski. Not good enough to win the series now, absolutely no farm system at all, and contracts too terrible to trade for pieces. Detroit's about two to three years away from being AWFUL.
  16. I think if you can get Lester or Scherzer for 5 years at a bit more per year, say 5 for 140 instead of 7 for 175, you do it. Sell them on being able to sign another contract after this one at 35, instead of at 37. If that ties up all the money, so be it. The prospects are on the way, and if they're not enough to fill the holes, having a middling outfielder and a decent starter isn't going to change anything. That being said, if we have Lester/Scherzer, Hughes, and then 3 of Gibson/Meyer/May/Nolasco/Milone, that's a good enough rotation to compete in the central. If it turns out we need an outfielder to challenge in 2016, I have to think TR would get permission to go for it.
  17. The ideal scenario for the Twins is that Sano kills it in Chatty, while Plouffe looks good enough to fetch a handsome return at the deadline, allowing the farm system to continue to be stocked, but also letting Bocaton get his feet wet.
  18. I would like to see the team not sign or trade for an OF, but rather do the following move: make Danny Santana a full time OF. Start him in center, and then move him to left, when Buxtons ready. Danny has shown enough xb pop that you can put him in a corner, where his range would be great. It also allows Escobar to play every day at short, which he has shown enough to deserve. Use next year to assess the young guys, and ideally, you can have the lineup below for opening day 2016. 1--Buxton--CF 2--Santana--LF 3--Mauer--1B 4--Sano--3B 5--Vargas--DH 6--Escobar--SS 7--Polanco--2B 8--Suzuki--C 9--Hicks--RF SP--Hughes SP--Meyer SP--Gibson SP--Berrios SP--Elite prospect we traded Dozier, Arcia, and May for That's a lineup with speed and power, possibly the best outfield defense in baseball, and a rotation with 1-2 aces, and nobody worse than a 3. And we still would have Stewart, Thorpe, and Gonsalves in the wings to start, with Michael, Gordon, D Hicks, and Walker for the lineup.
  19. Today's reason why Cory Provos needs to be fired; in reference to Brian Dozier's .356 OBP, and I quote, "that's phenomenal for a leadoff hitter". I have no words.
  20. In the proposed trade below, between St. Louis and the Twins. Buxton and Meyer for Taveras and Wacha. My gut says St. Louis says no before the Twins, but I'm curious to see what everyone else thinks.
  21. Can't wait to see the Jones boys (Zach and Tyler) throwing 98-100 mph bb's at batters in the 7th and 8th in a couple of years. Convert May to a reliever, get Bard healthy, and that's a bullpen foursome you can go to war with.
  22. I'm not totally surprised by the Cats not making the playoffs this year, as the core of their roster came from a pretty bad Fort Myer's squad last year. If you look at the affiliates challenging for/in the playoffs right now, all of them are a level above teams that were competitive last year. Rochester--last year NB just missed the playoffs. Fort Myers--Beloit made the playoffs last year. Cedar Rapids--E-Town won the Appy last year. If this theory holds true, you should buy your 2014 and 2015 Rock Cat playoff tickets right now.
  23. I like May, and I think he's a valuable piece, but he's a guy that is almost 24, and in his second full season at AA, he is largely the same pitcher. His ERA, WHIP, and K/9 are largely the same, while he has made modest improvement in HR rate, BB/9, and average IP/start. I'm glad we tried him as a starter, but now is the time to switch him to the pen, so we can have a three-headed late inning monster of May, Zach Jones, and Perkins in 2015.
  24. Prior to the July deadline, reports had the Orioles dangling Bundy. As far as wondering if we should give up Rosario (thereby leaving us with Dozier long term at 2B), a potential ace starter is well worth going from a potentially above-average 2B to a replacement/average 2B. Tell me which you would rather have; Bundy, with Dozier (or even Polanco) at 2B, with Mauer/Herrmann at Catcher No Bundy, with Rosario at 2B, and Mauer/Pinto at Catcher. That's an easy choice for me.
  25. If the Twins are really going to go after a big name, I would rather see them make a buy-low play for Dylan Bundy. You'll have him back at the end of next year from TJ, and he can then pair with Meyer in 2015, right about the time Sano and Buxton are starting to establish themselves. Would a Walker/Harrison/Rosario/Pinto--Baltimore chooses which 2/3 they want be enough?
