  1. I'm gonna guess the Brewers wish a lot of things, primarily that they didn't have to be located in the state of Wisconsin. I know I would.
  2. I'm glad to see Slegers having success, but can we pump the brakes on the superlatives a little bit? Seven hits and two runs in seven innings is not phenomenal unless it's accompanied by double digit strikeouts. It's very good, no doubt, and I'll take it every day, but phenomenal is more like 3 hits or less, 1 run or less.
  3. So if a pitcher strikes out a guy on a wild pitch, who then scores on a 3 base throwing error by the catcher, is that also on the pitcher?
  4. The second run was the direct result of him not throwing an obvious 4th ball (ensuring Herrmann would not have made a throw), and then Herrmann making a terrible throw. It was in no way that makes any modicum of sense Trevor May's fault. In reality, I feel like there should be a rule change disallowing the lead runner to advance a base on a walk when there is a throwing error to the base they are going to.
  5. Slow clap on the range line. Well done sir.
  6. I see Paul M just realized what he was doing. Question withdrawn.
  7. So Hunter is going to bat for Vargas, and Mauer will likely bat 3rd. If we score 1, who plays 1st in the bottom of the 9th? Do we have to do another double switch, which will have the effect of moving the pitcher spot up 1, and therefore is a non-sensical move? Why not have Joe bat for Kennys?
  8. For those of us at work and therefore consigned to Provus and Gladden, what did Dick do this time?
  9. What exactly is the thought process that drives someone who has Mauer and Hunter available to pinch hit to say, "I know! Let's have Kurt Suzuki pinch hit lead off instead!"
  10. Shouldn't that be less than no joy in Mudville? More than no joy implies there is some joy, however small.
  11. I like Meyer AND Achter as a call up better than just Achter.
  12. It is if we're lining every pitcher in the majors up, and saying the 61st through 90th best pitchers are "#3's". However, when you can have multiple pitchers that are top 30 or top 60 in the league, your #3 pitcher could well be a great #3. For example, last year, either Verlander or Sanchez was the Tigers' #3 pitcher, whereas the Twins' was either Ricky Nolasco or Kevin Correia. Clearly, Detroit's #3 was far superior to our #3.
  13. Doesn't this apply to just about every pitcher in the Major Leagues?
  14. Joe Mauer is getting paid $23m this year and each of the next 3. As a Twins fan, I AM furious.
  15. What's up with JO? His past few starts (iirc) have not been up to his established standard. I hope he's not battling an injury.
  16. The thing is, it feels like a lot, but it really isn't because all 3 of those players are so easily replaceable. Escobar can man short, and if he stumbles you have Polanco, with Gordon only a few years away. If you're looking for power to replace Vargas, there's this guy named Sano in AA, and ABW and Dalton Hicks are possible options too. And for Arcia, Reddick himself is a massive upgrade, and even if he leaves after next year, you can roll with Buxton, Rosario, Hicks, and Kepler. So all 3 of those guys are easily replaceable, as well as not exactly being sure things to stick in the majors.
  17. I would be massively in favor of Reddick. Give Beane Santana, Vargas, and Arcia and call it a day.
  18. First, fix the bullpen. Stauffer DFA'd/released. Duensing DFA'd/released. Work out a deal for Graham (Beresford maybe?), and option him to Rochester. Thompson optioned to Rochester. Call up Oliveros, Achter, and Tonkin, promote Zach Jones to Rochester, promote Brandon Peterson to Chatty, assign Tyler Jay to the Miracle. Option Robinson to Rochester, and call up Buxton. Wait two weeks, and if Vargas has not resumed hitting AND Sano is continuing his positive trend, send Vargas to AAA, and bring up Sano to DH. Call up Argenis Diaz, send Polanco to Rochester. Send Herrmann to Rochester, call up Stuart Turner. Your lineup is then; 1--Buxton--CF 2--Mauer--1B 3--Dozier--2B 4--Hunter--RF 5--Vargas/Sano--DH 6--Plouffe--3B 7--Rosario--LF 8--Suzuki--C 9--Escobar--SS Bench would be; Hicks--sub 1x/week for Rosario and Buxton, 2x per week for Hunter (1 rest, 1 DH) Turner--start day after night games Diaz--Mop-up duty only, his value is you don't care if he plays or not Nunez--spell Plouffe/Escobar when needed If Vargas stays up, he will replace Mauer at 1st for half of road games (where Mauer is currently OPS'ing .672, allowing Hunter to DH more often, giving us our optimal defensive outfield more often) Starters would be; Hughes Gibson May Santana Pelfrey Send Milone to Rochester to await injuries/ineffectiveness, attempt to trade Nolasco/scour webMD for various reasons to keep him on the DL Bullpen would be; Perkins Achter Tonkin Oliveros Fien Pressly Boyer
  19. How can there be a 3 strikeout differential between two accounts of the same game? Someone's got some 'splainin' to do...
  20. You think a guy with a 2.67 ERA, a 1.19 WHIP, 11.3 k/9, and a 2.7 bb/9 wouldn't be better than Stauffer (6.6 ERA, 2.07 WHIP, 3.6 k/9, and 4.2 bb/9) or Duensing (9.53 ERA, 2.12 WHIP, 4 k/9, and 5.6 bb/9)? How big do you think the gap is between AAA and MLB? Admittedly, it's big, but the difference would have to be the Grand freakin' Canyon for Oliveros to be as bad as Stauffer or Duensing.
  21. Impatient and confused is a kind of sick...
  22. Escobar deserves more of a shot than he is getting. He hasn't been getting consistent playing time, and when he does, he's being bounced all across the diamond. I'd like to see what he could do if he got to play shortstop every day for 4 weeks, since he's way better than Santana on both sides of the ball right now. That would give the Twins their best defesnive alignment with Rosario, Hicks, and Hunter in the outfield. You can then go with the below line-up, which would be pretty solid. 1. Dozier 2. Mauer 3. Hunter 4. Plouffe 5. Rosario 6. Random DH guy pending Vargas' call-up 7. Suzuki 8. Escobar 9. Hicks
  23. Not happy at all with what's happening with Kohl Stewart. He's obviously young, and deserves more time to get things straight, but he is going in the wrong direction, which is alarming for an alleged top prospect pitching in a pitcher's park.
  24. We can quibble all day about whether it's likely to last, but if a 2.59 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 1.73 GO/AO isn't performing to you, I think you may need to recalibrate your expectations.
