  1. In Chiefs case, I think the term is suppository!
  2. First Berrios, and now apparently Meyer on Tuesday. If, and it is a very big if, these two guys could be moderately successful, it will be a very interesting mid season trading time. But that is putting the cart before Hannahs Horse!
  3. We know where Milones ceiling is. And my vertically challenged significant other would have to duck to get below it. Meyers is much higher. If you're gonna find out, there is no better time than the present. I hope they give him some time to settle, his upside is worth it. And as a frequent critic of Mr. Ryan, it would seem only fair that I give credit for what seems a logical forward looking move.
  4. I am too, I really hoped his length range and athletiscm would allow him to succeed at SS, but it doesn't seem he will. I like defensive SS, ones who take away runs. Offensive ones? Meh!
  5. I think this is what Ryan has done with stocking offense over defense and pitching. But most sports are tilted towards a position, i.e. QB, Goalie, and to me in baseball it's pitching. You can get value for the buck buying undervalued positions, but can you win. Win enough to be a true contender? . Yeah, some injuries were involved. Which is SOP around here. If you can stay healthy, you can survive almost any performance, or lack thereof. Get injured, and you might not get back. We appear to operate in the "Wally Pip" mode. To me the Meyer thing is very odd. First they tipped over the roster, because we HAD to have pitching, then the starter goes -5 the next night, and we miraculously find all kinds of pitching. And Wed night down 3, he still doesn't get in the game in the 6th, a classic long relief spot. Either Ryan brought up Meyer and told Molly he didn't have to pitch him, Molly is being pig headed, or they think they are legitimate contenders, and going balls to the wall to win every game they can. Frankly the last option scares me the most!

  7. If I was Duffey, I take the money in a second. Hell, he could by 30 yr bonds, and have a nice retirement nest egg, no matter what happens. And as someone else said, if he hits it big he can't spend it all anyway, it's just a number on an account. As far as the investment itself, I think it's a great idea. Everyone remembers derivatives, right. . Whatever happened to the time when stocks were sold for capital to invest, and commodities were sold to hedge against price spikes? Arrgh. Ok, off my soap box and back into moms basement! Oh, btw, mom said, "if it looks too good to be true, it likely is"!
  8. I am not sure if we ever resolved what Doziers OPS was or wasn't. But the exercise could serve as a cautionary tale. If someone's numbers seem extremely high, despite looking like his on field performance is not, then it's a reminder that not all one sees on paper does not necessarily transfer to on field results. There are an awful lot of variables in the game, and you have to plug different ones into every situation. And some of those equations come from the gut. It's what separates managers. Otherwise a nice algorithm would be far cheaper.
  9. With all this confusion about the stats, I now have no idea whether to play Dozier or not. And since the eye test, and intuition, and years of experience have no validity whatsoever, I am lost. Maybe a poll? Polanco and Dozier can draw straws? Paper, rock, scissors?
  10. I was glad to hear that despite Jepsens travails, Molly has assured him that the job is his. Now if he was the long time successful closer struggling, yes, a vote of confidence would be normally in order. But he isn't. He's a fill in. And while no one knows how May, or Tonkin would do in the role, two things are apparent. One, they couldn't be worse, and two, it would be a great time to find out!
  11. HATE Arcia or Nolasco? I might think Ricky should have left his number, somewhere else. But I just don't know him well enough to hate him! For all I know he opens doors for little old ladies taking Doritoes home to their 37 yr old son, who is in the basement posting on TD!
  12. Not true! The legend lived on.........
  13. Any word on the game, I know if they were playing it south of Mpls, they would be playing it.
  14. Huh?
  15. We are doing with Jepsen, what we so often do. Trying to turn someone with a history of not being something, into that something.
  16. I don't think there are "clutch hitters. Meaning that players don't boost there level of ability in important at bats. I do think there are players who stay more relaxed, and don't over swing, or try and hit the proverbial 5 run homer. While their success rate is not likely higher than normal, it may be higher than their more nervous brethren.
  17. Third in the AL with 16 solos? That is over 84%. Is the percentage 3rd, the number, or both. No matter, it's a bizarre number.
  18. There are two ways to look at this, and a comment. One is that playoff contenders do not have pitchers like Jepsen as a closer. So if your team makes pronouncements about having a legitimate chance to contend, his presence negates that contention. If you are in rebuild mode, a Chargois/Burdi type should already be on a flight to Mpls. As far as Molly's options, his current choices would have to be May or Tonkin. May has a lack of relief experience, and Tonkin seems to get frustrated. That said, I would take a shot at Tonkin and see if he can get his emotions in check. I do like his arm. As to his endorsement of Jepsen, what else can he say?
  19. Maybe this discussion can be simplified? When BD is in full pull happy mode he, like others, relies solely on pitchers mistakes for success. When he hits like he did last night, he can be responsible for his success. Is he going to hit 28 HR's again? Probably not. But he will end up seeing more inside pitches than he would have otherwise, and can maybe hit 15. And he can be what he really should/could be. A fairly decent all around OB guy, who is a pretty good base runner and a fair defensive player. You can site statistics till hell freezes over, but a leadoff hitter at .179 hitting endless flares and ground balls, in essence since last summer is not simply operating in bad luck. Let's see if this new found love of RF continues?
  20. . Do we really need to find things to complain about when our top pitching prospect has been promoted? Can we not just enjoy the show? Considering the amounts of alcohol ingested by TD posters, it's safe to says this is a "bottle half empty" crowd!
  21. If Duffey and Berrios are successful, it will be very interesting how Ryan handles this. Santana and Gibson are not going anywhere, so either one or both go back down. And if they don't, then you have to deal with Milone and or who? It's almost too early to find a trade for Nolasco, or anyone for that matter. Milone in the pen makes me go UGH! As for Meyer? They bring him up because the pen is gassed. Then don't pitch him because the game was close, and it's "not fair"? So we are waiting for a blowout to use him? He finally had a nice clean start to the year in Rochester, as a starter. Just what everyone wanted. And now he gets jerked around to an unused reliever? Things are never smooth in Twins Territory!
