  1. I am not sure how "tongue in cheek" the comment was about removing Polanco for defensive purposes was?But any joke has to have substance to be funny, and yet another non defensive SS is not funny! Ugh! One thing is clear, the injury capped off a miserable two weeks for Esco.
  2. Things will be better tomorrow according to Dick. He just played the "we own Chris Sale card!"
  3. in an adult men's game I once gave a guy about 4 straight steal signs, and the hitter fouled off all the pitches. On the fifth sign, he yelled at me, "I ain't going, I can't run anymore"
  4. So Tomorrow night, by some miracle the game is within the realm of possibility, and May is T best good for one inning? This is a weird year!
  5. The last time I saw a player point at second to see if he was supposed to steal was in 9 yr old ball! Oh wait...........
  6. I saw this in a Rand column today. He quoted Rueuse and ESPN, saying its been since 1930 since a runner was thrown out at third, down a run with 2 out in the ninth, ala Sano. That seems almost impossible to believe. On a sad note, I also heard his manager was so upset with said player, that he is no longer in organized baseball!
  7. I wonder how Hugh Glass would have handled the news that O'Rourke was optioned? Crawling to Target Center on 94 to seek revenge on TR might have been iffy! And using the North Star line takes some of the intensity out of the trip!
  8. It makes no difference what you wore to mow dads lawn, the fact you mowed it is all that counts. You can always get other clothes, dads are hard to replace!
  9. I didn't even like O'Rourke. I watched him, and waited for him to implode. But he never did. He just kept getting LH out like a machine. Which sadly is more than many of our current residents can. Maestro? He seems to be able to run the bases, and catch fly balls. Something several of our OF have trouble with. But I agree with the posters who consider this a panic move. We have Santana out there. Not as good with the glove, but seems to have some of the bat back. And runs well. The Graham thing is mind boggling. They drug him around all last year. Now when they could have stashed him at Rochester and worked with him, if nothing else as depth, they dump his butt? Maybe there is more coming? A master plan too complex for the dwellers of moms basement? What was that old movie line? "Is that all you got?" I hope not. Has anyone considered this horrid possibility? We wanted movement! What if this is considered "movement" at One Twins Way?
  10. I personally 85% is pretty decent. Have you considered MLB FO as a career?
  11. Everytime I think of Taylor and the woofies, and want to commend him on his recent decisions, I think of how many years it took him to make one. And I go back to the corner of moms basement.
  12. I agree, it's important to keep the two issues separate. In most organizations the FO sets the roster, using many different criteria than strictly talent. The manager manages what given. When the two views don't meld, chaos can't evolve. But, I should remind you, before you give Molly a pass, remember it's him who writes Plouffes name on the lineup card!
  13. The only possibility of change is that Ryan would announce his retirement after 20 very successful years in Twins management. The team will have a huge promo next May, and give him the keys to a new Road Glide! As for an in public dismissal, Catholic priests will be getting married before that happens. Molitor? First off he still has 4 90 loss seasons to pile up before the ax swings. But in reality, if he was Jims guy, he isn't going anywhere, and if he is Ryans guy, Pohlad has not seemed the type to force that issue. And all to what gain? Anthony for Ryan? Ugh. Molitor for interim Gardy, with the surprise announcement in Oct, that due to the remarkable turn around, Gardy gets a new 3 year extension! Change here is minute. Even the blockbuster announcement of the Fien and Milone thing will really still have little impact.
  14. Well put, and in fewer words than I could have. Sadly I still think nothing will truly happen, players will eventually change, the culture will not.
  15. This interview solidly confirms my long held belief that the Twins are just another business investment to them. And to an extent all major league sports team are to their owners. But a lot of owners have a pride and ego factor involved also. They want to do well, if not every year, at least often enough to strut a little at the country club! Some are even more competitive. Ziggy, whom I am no fan have, wants to win, and puts his money, and ours, where his mouth is. This will never be the case with the Pohlads. Ryan is doing what the family desires. Turn a nice safe profit yearly, run a clean operation, no love boat crap, and as a rule keep our name out of the headlines, unless it's positive. I have even pondered why Ryan stays with an outfit that puts a damper on on field success. But he seems comfortable, and doesn't seem to be an innovative ambitious person in his own right. While I admit a lot of this is speculative, and from moms basement, it's based on that old theory that the sum, often is the total of the parts!
  16. This mornings Pohlad Family Memo: Attention JP. Please refrain from granting phone interviews without TR in the room. Thank you.
  17. This in from a conversation between Scoggins and Jim Pohlad. Something tells me this was not a comfortable conversation! But it does seem to explain the lack of urgency over the last 20 years by the FO. http://www.startribune.com/despite-team-s-total-system-failure-twins-owner-jim-pohlad-gives-support-to-gm-terry-ryan-manager-paul-molitor/378342011/
  18. For better or worse, and no matter the history that brought us to this point, this is virtually uncharted territory for this FO. Add in the fact that it's May 5, and it almost a tectonic shift in philosophy. Will it continue? Should be interesting!
  19. Well put, and thank you. I totally agree on the knee jerk reaction issue, and I might add injury initiated reaction also. I do think if you go back in time, many Twins promotions are injury related, and few are performance related. If you are a "behave yourself" veteran who is not actually completely in the tank, there is almost no chance of losing your position to another player. And I cannot believe minor league players are not aware of the fact that their future is not in their hands, it's in someone else's knee or elbow! I remain convinced that the actual players are not as bad as shown, but the roster construction is. You just cannot take a defensive team of this quality?, and put them behind such a non dominating staff. And the idea that you will make up the difference offensively is a fools errand!
  20. A lot depends on whether Plouffe stays healthy! on a more serious note, the SP has become as expected. And no, it's not just because of the injuries. The last three starts Milone, Molasco, and Hughes have made have been ugly. A reminder that if there is a history to look to, a SSS, whether positive or negative, generally reverts to said history. Or as my dad said, you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, or vice versa!
  21. Therein lies the problem. They are doing neither. They are stuck in the middle. I will say this, it's too early to find decent trade partners for some of the high buck players. That won't happen until June, nor should it. But if after the ASG, we are still fielding this mess of a roster, someone in the FO needs to go! And the odds of that are??
  22. Park has pleasantly surprised me. I do think there is another chapter to be written. He feasts on hangers, and while they are inevitable, I still think he will see more and more hard stuff. I am pleasantly surprised by Arcia. He has changed his hitting style quite a bit. The results are subtle, but evident. He is never going to be a gold glove OF, but the effort is there. Last night on Altuve's (?) double he was covering backing up second base. But since the Twins don't believe in PH as a rule, really believe that Sano is an OF, and think Platoon was a war movie, I do think his future lies elsewhere.
  23. Nothing gets a manager in more trouble than playing favorites, and holding a grudge too long. Not even discipline or language or game decisions. I don't think Molitors doghouse is too deep, but either he plays favorites, is trying to show up Ryan, or is the most stubborn manager around. Not being in the clubhouse, I don't know if we can tell. But something is amiss. And if Molitor is a veterans manager, hired to lead a young rebuilding team, that would be just another example of the Twins Way. Insular to a fault!
