  1. I liked the idea they at least made an attempt to get a catcher, but I also believe that the timing and swiftness of the deal indicates TR was not unhappy to part ways with Hicks.
  2. Why are there continued references to "The Plan. There is no plan, even the Meyer call up is reactionary. The Duffey call up is reactionary. THERE IS NO PLAN!
  3. Plus using math on TD is highly discouraged, not to speak of confusing! Sometimes when I try the operator the dial won't roll all the way back, I even tried WD40 to no avail!
  4. Plus using math on TD is highly discouraged, not to speak of confusing!
  5. This from today's Trib: "Kepler, who batted .167 over nine games, didn't receive the consistent playing time manager Paul Molitor wanted him to get when he was called up to replace Danny Santana." Did I miss something? Isn't Molitor the manager? Does not the manager parcel out playing time? Was Kepler injured? Doesn't Molitor speak German? ACH der leiber! Or in the words of the greatest German officer of all time, "I KNOW NUTTING, NUTTING!"
  6. To be fired for the W/L record the bar is set at 4 consecutive -90 seasons. To be fired for spending too much of the Pohlads money, is much easier to achieve!
  7. Thank you! Last May should go down as one of the worst months in Twins history. Some will argue that no one can foresee how all that youth wil turn out, which is true. But one can foresee how the current veterans will, just look back! Sadly, like Mike, I feel there is little chance of anything significant happening. Patience is only a virtue when you have something to look forward to.
  8. I watched this on TIVO, so I can't say I was in tune with the nuances of this game. But why did he take out O'Rourke? (Good grief, did I just type that)
  9. Nice article, Nick. Duffey did benefit from some "at em" halls, more like rockets, but that is baseball. Your piece did point out the standard Twins conundrum. Too bad to win, too good to get rid of, not enough value to trade? Gibson and Milone are very bad right now. BUT, there historical numbers give us a view of better days to come. So two pitchers are really better than their recent numbers, one of whom is not suitable for the BP? And the other three have stifling veteran contracts? So change is coming how? This is not a critique of either you, or your article. It's an observation on how difficult it will be to substantially change the makeup of this roster. It really is a shambles!
  10. I was ambivalent about the Hicks/Murphy trade. Meh! But now that I have seen Murphy play I have two questions. How in the name of Earl Battey do you get to the major leagues as a catcher, and cannot block the low ball, especially anything to your right? And if you do, why would anyone trade an adequate, but on occasion confused, OF for you?
  11. . I have got to get better at being more specific, although I did think the term "selling high" was indicative of trading players, not repositioning....... Oh well.
  12. It would be interesting to see the Twins pitchers, against the Twins batters. Would our SO rate go up, or go down?
  13. Extreme Exaggerafion! Great name for a SO. MN. polka band, bad idea for a baseball post!
  14. I would hurry if I were you. By the end of the week, someone will be pointing out that tat is "so April"! May is the new in thing! I would think someone like you, in an upscale urbane area such as GF, would be a trend setter. Getting an "It's May" tattoo, in late April puts you amongst the A listers! And on TD, that's an eclectic group.
  15. Here's an interesting question. How often do the Twins make a "hard" decision, moving an adequate vet? What I would refer to as selling high. I know they have, and do. I imagine you could say Span? Please don't say Hicks, he burned his bridges. AJ? There are likely more, but I can't remember them without reams of research. And btw, letting a FA fly the coop is not one.
  16. Trading Plouffe might not be quid pro quo. But the bottom line is the league only allows 25 on a roster. As North stated he isn't the guy you build around. There were other ways to do something but they always leave you short a spot when you factor Kepler in the mix. You could of course give up on Rosario, not my choice though. Barring a medical reason Mauer would have been a superior RF also. There were numerous ways to address the roster, both before and after the Park pickup. They chose the least obvious one. Maybe they will be the "smartest man in the room", and that might not become clear until next year. But the offense isn't suffering from offense, it's suffering from too many of the same type of hitters. No OB guys. No table setter. The percentage of solo HR's is unbelievable. These guys are all MLB hitters, but that doesn't mean you can put them all on one team. You likely can't make a major trade now, it's too early, needs by other teams have not been identified. Ours on the other hand should have been. What is happening was fairly predictable. Relying completely on offense in baseball is a fools errand. While there will be illusionary offensive stretches to come, what you see, is what you get.
  17. It has come to my attention, that there are way too many Hicks and Murphys. We need to start using Christian names!
  18. And how do we know that this will not end up just another cult, with a maniacal, messianic leader. Eventually we would all follow you to northern Idaho, there to find that not only don't they carry FSN on cable, but all the modems are still dial up! A primitive existence indeed!
  19. Ash brought up a valid point about the difficulty in correcting this roster imbalance. When they signed Park, knew Mauer was unmovable, and that Sano was not going to Rochester, they should have known Plouffe was the odd guy out. Not because he can't play, or because he makes too much, or any other reason you want to list. Because they have too many DH/corners. He would have to go, because of the same reason Nolasco made the roster, in reverse. He was moveable, Nolasco was not. Toss in the failure/reluctance/lack of fortitude to deal with the Arica situation, and you have the makings of a slow pitch softball team. While there was no ONE particular decision made that got them to this point, the cumulative weight did. A correction could have been monetarily costly, i.e. Nolasco, it might have been position costly, i.e. Plouffe, it might have been embarrassing, i.e. Arcia raking for some other team, and it might have been chancy, i.e. Kepler brought north. There were options. But it would have taken proactive, and imaginative deal making. Not a deal wrought by an injury, or bringing in a 39 year old former player. A deal to get this operation off the dime, and moving in the right direction. And that my friends, is not going to happen in Twins Territory.
  20. I also saw this article. Everyone has a hole in their strike zone, but his pulliness has made his fairly easy for a pitcher to hit. Also I have noticed when they go up and in, it's way up, where even he can't reach it.
  21. Platoon is of itself the definition of a flexible mindset! Yet my inclusion into this elitist cult has been completely ignored and avoided. I demand to be named Sec. of Defense immediately. (There is obviously no Sec of Offense).
  22. Easily explained by SSS! It's too early to draw conclusions.
  23. Sorry, I should have been more detailed. A Murphy, or his clone can come up and sit. I don't want him up and playing to replace one of those you mentioned, or even Arcia or Rosario. Bottom line, this group is either it, or not it. If we get our butts handed to us all year I don't care! NO MORE FILL IN MEDIOCRE VETS!
  24. And if they do send them down, only until they somehow clear the logjam of a roster constructed so far. That said, if the John Hicks release is related to Murphy coming in from Rochester, I will go to the SW corner of my moms basement, put my head between my legs, and weep!
