  1. None of his crashes into the wall have really looked like anything that should even cause bruises and yet he seems to be banged up on all of them. It looked like he was slowing down as he approached and didn't hit very hard. Have you ever stubbed your toe, hit your"funny bone" on something, banged your shin on a ball hitch, or bumped your head on something you didn't notice? Hurts like he!! don't it! And how fast were you moving? A lot slower than a full speed run. My point is that it it looked like his knee hit directly on the fence, padded or not its still a solid object underneath, and that caused the bruise. It may or may not cost the game (remember the Twins were up 5-4 after Sano's HR...thanks Pressly), but he will miss a couple of games and be ready and rested after the All-Star break.
  2. So Arcia had a good game today, it doesn't make the move right or wrong. He also had a 7-13 stretch back in April, which makes the rest of hie season (before today) become 15-93, or .161. Good luck to him, but all things considered, another one dimensional player being cut (who is not that good in his dimension) will not hurt this team in the long run.
  3. And BOOM!, another good start wasted!
  4. C,mon Molly, Mauer should have hit for Park!
  5. Mauer on pace for 19.55 HR's this year.....just sayin'!
  6. Games like yesterday are the ones that make this year tough for me. Grab a lead, but leave the bases loaded, give up the lead, grab a bigger lead, give it back, again, fall behind, tie it up and "boom", bullpen implosion and lose. And as tough as it on us, I think the players feel it too. Did you see Escobar's celebration after he tied the game in the 8th? I imagine he went just as far down after Jepson's latest misadventure (Ron Davis anyone?). Trade or DFA the deadweight, deadbeat veterans and bring on the kids. Let's get the excitement flowing again, baseball is a kid's game, it's supposed to be fun.
  7. "A day late and a dollar short".....sums up the Twins dealings (or lack thereof) with Plouffe and Dozier. Except it is a year late, well 56 games late and million$ short. The only way to get any return is to package them, either individually or together, with Nolasco, Hughes and Jepson, and maybe even Ervin Santana (though I think he is a better rebound candidate than the other 5).Then bring on the kiddie parade and let them take their lumps (can't play too much worse than .286 baseball with the youngster's and I won't get so p****d off about veteran's giving the games away).
  8. Worst starting Pitchers: 1994 - Jim Deshaies : 6-12 7.39, 66 ERA+ 1997 - Scott Aldred: 2-10 7.68, 60 ERA+ 2000 - Sean Bergman: 4-5, 9.66, 54 ERA+ (only made 14 starts) 2012 - Nick Blackburn: 4-9 7.39, 56 ERA+ LOTS of bad starting pitching performances since 1989, but these are the worst!
  9. RF - Pedro Munoz 1993 - 83 OPS, -17 Rtot SS - Pat Meares 1996 - 72 OPS, 1 Rtot SS - Pat Meares 1998 - 71 OPS, -4 Rtot 1B - Doug Mientkiewicz 1999 - 66 OPS, -4 Rtot C - Any of the 2000 Catchers - Matt LeCroy, Marcus Jenson, Chad Moeller. AJ took over in mid-August and did well, but it was ugly before then. C - Henry Blanco 2004 - 60 OPS but he did throw out 49% of runners trying to steal. Was supposed to be Mauer's back up but, well, Joe got hurt. 2B - Nick Punto 2005 - 68 OPS (he is listed as primary 2B in BR) LF - Lew Ford 2006 - 57 OPS, -2Rtot 3B - Nick Punto 2007 - 53 OPS 2B - Alexi Casilla 2009 - 45 OPS, -7Rtot C - Drew Butera 2011 - 24 OPS, SS - Tsuyoshi Nishioka 2011 - 48 OPS, -14Rtot CF - Aaron Hicks 2013 - 63 OPS, -4Rtot SS - Pedro Florimon - 68 OPS C - Any of the 2015 Catchers Kurt Suziki, Chris Herrmann and Eric Fryer.
  10. What kind of returns are you hoping to get for Hughes, Nolasco, Dozier, Plouffe, & Suziki? Send all 5 of them to San Diego for Fernando Rodney? I think Dozier is the only one with no California ties.
  11. This team just keeps finding ways to lose.
  12. 2016 Twins pitching splits Starter - ERA 5.20(14), IP 173.0(15), WHIP 1.45 (10), SO 150(14T) Reliever - ERA 4.34(14), IP 118.1(3T), WHIP 1.49(14), SO 117(4T) Team - ERA 4.85(14), WHIP 1.47(15), SO 267(9) Not much help here!
  13. I did this last year (or the year before) also. Minnesota Twins AL rankings by position: C - .168(12)/.213(15)/.221(14) - OPS .434(14) - Only AL team without a HR at C. 1B - .230(8)/.345(5)/.377(10) - OPS .722(9) - Mauer @ 1B .250/.379/.345 2B - .229(13)/.318(11)/.382(12) - OPS .699(12) - Not Dozier .286/.375/.429 3B - .311(3)/.352(6)/.485(5) - OPS .837(5) - Not Plouffe .354/.420/..516 (Sano .357/.500/.571) SS - .266(6)/.304(7)/.352(10) - OPS .655(8) - Not Escobar .343/.363/.531 LF - .224(12)/.274(14)/.368(10) - OPS .642(12) - Arcia .293/408/.585 CF - .202(13)/.250(13)/.331(12) - OPS .581(13) - Not Buxton .228/.273/.354 RF - .205(14)/.282(13)/.323(14) - OPS .605(13) - Not Sano .189/.230/.189 (Sano .211/.301/.378) DH - ..313(4)/.407(3)/.521(3) - OPS .928(3) - Mauer .444/.559/.556 - Park .273/.349/.582 Team - .236(12)/.304(13)/.369(14) - OPS .673(15) And this is just the batters!
  14. Watching Boyer get lit up makes me wonder why the Twins kept Fien?
  15. And "Slow" Mauer with the hustle double!!
  16. 2015: Alex Gordon removed for PR 8 times Jose Bautista removed for PR 15 times David Ortiz removed for PR or DEF 33 times Albert Pujols removed for PR or DEF 20 times These are just a few sluggers I decided to look up, so what is being done with Sano is not as uncommon as TD posters think.
  17. Way No. 1001 how to lose, presented by YOUR Minnesota Twins!
  18. The K's don't bother me so much, they are more a part of the game than at any other time, especially with young or power hitters. This team isn't doing the basics, at all. Lots of runners not getting advanced, batters trying to pull outside pitches, swinging at non-strikes, etc... As was stated earlier, there doesn't seem to be a plan with many of these batters. They are TRYING to work the count (maybe there is a little bit of a plan), but are letting too many hittable pitches be called strikes, then swinging at bad pitches and taking the slow walk back to the dugout. Oh, there is one exception so far; everyone's favorite punching bag, Joe Mauer, is hitting the ball hard all over the field. What a shame it would be if he has recovered his mojo but the rest of the team can't figure it out.
  19. Maybe somebody stated this earlier, but Hanley Ramirez moved from SS to LF. If he's playing the game properly a SS runs a lot more than a LF, plus lays out for line drives and grounders in the hole. Personally, I think Ramirez was upset about being moved and it showed in his play. I am not worried about Sano, and it will only be a 2 or 3 year deal anyway,
  20. For what it's worth, I applaud Mr. LaRoche for his decision. I was able to coach my children in all sports since they were little, something his career would not allow him to do. A baseball season is very long (February to November), which means family time is limited, so time together is time together. At the same time I can see the White Sox point, a kid can be a big distraction. But a 14 year old is not a 4 year old (Dusty Baker), and the players did not have a problem with it. I could not bring my children to work (except when I coached them), but I was not a professional baseball player. One final statement about this situation; family situations can change quickly. I lost my youngest son 2 1/2 years ago when he was 16 (I am not looking for sympathy, just stating a fact) and wish nothing more than to be able to spend more time with him. Cudo's to Adam LaRoche for not taking for granted the time to spend with his family, it is precious and can disappear in the blink of an eye.
  21. All you posters worrying about running injuries make me laugh. NFL linebackers are roughly 260 pounds and run more, cut more, change speed and direction more, and move in other ways that a major league outfielder never will and aren't getting hurt every time they do so. As long as the trainers have him on a stretching program, I am not too worried about a running injury, but it might still happen. His arm strength should be above average, he played both SS and 3B after all, and this spring should get him acclimated to judging fly ball distances. Routes to the ball, backing up throws to 1B from P, C, SS, and 3B, returning the ball quickly to the infield, and throwing to the proper base/cut-off should be bigger concerns. And of these, routes to the ball should and will be the biggest problem; it takes years, not weeks, to learn this skill. Oh yeah, and that RF overhang in Target Field!
  22. He was signed as a SS and moved to 3B as he matured and got bigger. He his now roughly 260 pounds, he could play LB or DE for the Vikings! At this point Plouffe is a better option at 3B, do not even kid yourself thinking otherwise. Personally I wouldn't put him in RF, that overhang can play like a bitch, but the team, and Sano himself, is much better with him in the OF, or if Park bombs, DH. As long as he can leave any defensive shortcomings in the field, he is the best corner OF option in the last 5 - 7 years or more.
  23. For anybody doubting lingering concussion symptoms, see Koskie, Corey! So yes, 3 years (or more) of symptoms are very possible. I am gonna say that Mauer falls somewhere between Morneau (who I believe still has lingering symptoms, check the stats since 2010) and Koskie (who was never able to play again after his last concussion). Not to go into a big spiel on concussion effects, but brain injuries are a BIG deal and should not be taken lightly.
  24. #3 and defense, the Royals way, seems the way to go. Make it a 6 inning game and make the plays in the field. Enough offense to have the lead or be close through 6, then go to the 'pen and the defensive specialists.
