  1. I think Hicks has done what has been asked of him after his little display of rebellion last summer. No offense ( ) to Mr.'s Schafer and Robinson, but Hicks has more upside than either of them at this point in any of their careers. Bring the kid up. I don't think I could handle another one of our guys becoming a stud (or at least serviceable)for somebody else.
  2. Joe Mauer is 10x the hitter Bruno was. Bruno might have suggested it (a couple years ago even), but until Mauer wanted to pull the ball, he wasn't going to. Last seasons performance may have finally made it click in his head that he needed to pull the ball more, or perhaps he began working on it last year and struggled in the transition, but it seems to be paying off this year. He also has his legs back under him this year, and a clear head (remember Morneau's struggles after his last concussion). He's 2-6 swinging at the first pitch this year (not counting foul balls), 128-291 (.440) in his career.
  3. The farm system is rated #1 by the baseball experts, not the Twins. However, this #1 system still has its best prospects in AA or lower. And those players are in their first seasons at AA, so yes, the team is behind the Cubs and Astros, their better rated prospects were in the high minors. That being said, if the Twins hold their best prospects back, "not wanting to rush them", that is wrong. Highly rated prospects should be flying through a teams system, able to handle the high's and the low's, realizing they need to succeed and fail to attain major league stardom.
  4. How about just no. The player is property of the team. Right or wrong its the teams choice where their players start each season. How would Boras feel if all the GM's formed their own panel and decided not to sign his clients?
  5. Yanking Arcia was not and is not the answer. As a coach I would have talked to him about it away from the rest of the players, he's gonna feel bad enough about dropping the ball and letting his team down. Next I would hope he's professional enough to want to catch the 250 flyballs I am going to hit to him everyday for the rest of the season. As bad as Arcia's play was, Gibson shouldn't have let it bother him so much that he walked the next batter and served up that double to Morales.
  6. At 2-21 with 7 K's it would seem Trevor Plouffe's job is safe. He has looked horrible in every AB I have seen this year. June/July & Sano cannot get here soon enough.
  7. Typical bad luck inning, nothing hit hard yet the Twins give up a run. Hopefully the baseball gods will even things out.
  8. Smardzija, Hamels, Gallardo, Latos, and few others have been hit pretty hard this week also. Most starting P have a couple bad ones during a typical season.
  9. A few things happened on the way to the ball field: 1.) The CF of the future didn't pan out (Hicks) despite several second chances - didn't count on that. This wrecked the OF defense. Benson & Hicks sounded sexy a couple of years ago...not so much now. 2.) Mauer got hurt after signing the contract-of-ill-repute (as some feel, me not included). This wrecked the C position. 5 or 6 good years out of that contract before switching positions sounded sexy a couple of years ago...not so much now. 3.) Pitching prospects got hurt, traded or didn't pan out (and proven veterans got hurt, busted or didn't pan out). Gibson, Worley, Wimmer, Perkins (as a starter), Blackburn, Liriano, Slowey, Nolasco & Santana sounded sexy a couple of....ahh you get the point. 4.) Gardy's pets playing everyday (Florimon, Dedunu, etc...) 5.) Gardy's goats getting run out of town (Lohse, Garza, etc...) The goats looked better than the pets. 6.) The only negative about Ryan that I can come up with....not committing to a total rebuild. A five year plan would bearing fruit right about now, but it might be another five until these prospects (Sano, Buxton, Rosario, Gordon, Meyer, May, Stewart, etc...) will be winning divisions.
  10. The contract is not going to change. He's not a CF or a C anymore. He's a soon to be 32 year old 1B. If he "regresses" to .319/.401/.459 he will be worth his contract. And there's this, even in his worst seasons Mauer's OPS+ has been above league average. Quit the hatin'!
  11. The team looked flat today, a bad call went against the teams vocal leader and he did what he is here to do; voiced his displeasure. Hopefully showing his displeasure will light a fire under some and Wednesday's game will be more competitive.
  12. I think Mauer needs to jump on a few pitches early in the count to pull the ball in the air to get teams to play him honestly. He knows his scouting report, now he just needs to change it up a little. I'm thinking .325/.400/.475 for the season.
  13. If the Cubs or any other team wants to keep a player on the ML team or send him to AAA its their choice. The MLBPA cannot tell teams who should be on their roster.
  14. I don't think Molitor is throwing anybody under the bus. Sounds more like a system of accountability being put in place, something Gardy didn't have. If you were one of his boys and toed the imaginary line he laid out, you were good. If not, look out for the tires!! I don't see that with Molitor, so far anyways.
  15. If the team is old and bad and the retention level is this high its not a good thing. But the 25 man roster is fairly young, with players who's best years are ahead of them. Hopefully these players pan out and the team has a 10 year or better run of winning baseball.
  16. I can see Burdi as a mid to late-season call-up. Let him get his feet wet, no pressure situations, etc... Next year a chance at the seventh inning job, 2017 a shot at the eighth inning job, and 2018, if he's proved his mettle, the Twins decline Perkins' $6.5 M option and, BOOM, Burdi's the closer!
  17. Interesting topic! Mauer would have entered the draft in 2004, 2005 or 2006 depending on redshirt status and if he stayed all 4 seasons. Let's look at the QB's drafted in those 3 years and the Vikings draft spots: 2004 - Manning, Rivers, Roethlisberger & Losman were 1st round picks, the Vikes picked #20. 2005 - Smith, Rodgers & Campbell were 1st round picks, the Vikes picked #7 & #18. 2006 - Young, Leinert & Cutler were 1st round picks, the Vikes picked #17. I think not only would the Twins future have been affected, but an NFL team may or may not have been affected also - imagine Mauer with the Cheeseheads
  18. Plouffe improved immensely in 2014 compared to the previous years. However, every time a ball was hit to third, I was extremely anxious. As in how I felt the first day of practice with a new group of seventh graders! Is he going to catch it? Is he going to throw it away? It get better as the season wore on and he was making plays, but there was always that nagging anxiousness. Hopefully he continues to improve and be an important contributor to the team.
  19. This team could do worse than to take a page out of the Cardinals, Rangers, Giants and a few other successful teams and put Mays and Meyer out in the bullpen and sort of control the situations they are brought into. Build up their confidence a little, stretch them out and maybe put them in the rotation come August or September.
  20. If Santana can get 30-35 infield hits and becomes an adequate bunter, I don't think a .300 batting average is out if the question. The other two should get better as they learn to hit, not just swing, and as their strike zone knowledge improves.
  21. Lots of OF help on its way. Sano is penciled in at 3B for 10 years once he gets here.
  22. Not going to argue with anyone willing to take the time to make a prospect list...good job. I do think there should be a little sense of urgency with Berrios, but only because of his size. The team needs to get him to the show when he's ready or risk having him spend his most productive seasons in the minors.
  23. I think Seth's line-up looks about right, until September when the team is once again floundering. Then Buxton, Sano, and Rosario will be up and Hunter and maybe Plouffe and possibly even Dozier will be somewhere else looking to be playing in the post-season.
  24. Gotta have faith in your farm system. Neither Plouffe nor Dozier are superstars and replacements should be available from the system when they hit their FA seasons. Go year to year with both until/unless they show they deserve the big payday.
