  1. Well, right now we're probably 95% stock/index funds and I really want to raise the cash part. We'll move around some of that cash so we both can add 6k to our IRA but then we'll have even less cash in our investment account ... so, I don't think we'll do even a small buy until fall.
  2. I decided I'd pass on Uber and Lyft. Partly b/c I'm stashing money for our IRA contributions* but I'm just a bit stock heavy and I probably should hoard cash for a while. I'll probably regret that. *I realize I could buy uber for my IRA.
  3. For those who have them, note that your IRA contribution limit increased this year to $6,000.
  4. What do you tech folks know of Slack?
  5. Everyone is different and I'm still paying off some of my student loans. But in my thirties my wife and I just decided we'd put X amount into longterm savings (as opposed to a short term savings account) and only lived off of what was left, which required some changes to how we lived. The longterm savings is in an investment account which we've filled mostly with individual stocks but a little bit of index funds as well. It's probably the smartest thing we've done as adults but I wish I had done it sooner.
  6. I agree with most of this. I was hoping he'd break out a while ago but he's really struggling. The one potential thing to remember is that he is a switch hitter and it might take a switch hitter longer to develop, esp since Cabbage didn't come from a baseball hot-bed and didn't play it all year round. He might be like Nico Goodrum who just needed 2000+ minor league at-bats before we know who he is. Cabbage has less than 800 so far.
  7. Yeah, that's about my story too. Seriously, schools should teach basic economic realities to kids so they know how to save. We're pretty good with our kids on that now but man, I wish I had understood this stuff decades earlier.
  8. Slightly off topic but I think this is still the right thread. I have some friends and co-workers who I'm trying to understand the value of saving. It took me until my 30s to figure that out. When did you all actively start saving (i.e. more than a job's 401k)?
  9. Balozovic looks good in that video. I'm not a pitching expert but his mechanics look really good. Hope Twins push him up the system. Littell? I don't get the FO's fascination with this guy. He shouldn't be on our 40 man roster.
  10. Nice to see Stewart bounce back and Diaz could be a nice sleeper in our system this year. I expect Rortvedt to get to AA fairly quickly. I like him a lot and he and Jeffers both in Ft Myers doesn't make a lot of sense.
  11. I've enjoyed the first two series. The team does have talent and some of it seems to be working. Really hopeful that Kepler, Buxton and Sano (when he's back) take big steps forward. If all three do, I think we win the central. The Twins seem to have a solid, deep lineup with potential to be better. That's great. Berrios seems like he wants to throw 200 innings this year. And Pineda might turn into a sneaky good signing.
  12. This seems like a reasonable lineup. Will be fun to watch. Hopefully we score a few runs this year.
  13. Cruz should be great for us. He was #2 on my list of guys I wanted the Twins to sign (after Machado who would have been f-ing perfect). He'll also add some leadership and mentorship to some of our younger players. He'll be an all-star.
  14. Wow, that's some power. Off the bat, it looked like he got jammed a bit and I would have guessed it was a fly out to left.
  15. I think the defensive stats should be taken with a grain of salt. They spiked mostly b/c Buxton wasn't in center (same happened for Eddie in LF). If Buxton is playing CF full time next year, Kepler's defensive value will probably revert closer to his 2016-2017 numbers.
  16. I'd be ok with a three year deal with a 4th year tapped on if he met certain inning incentives in year three. Obviously, he's a risk but the team needs more horses in the rotation and I don't see many on the horizon.
  17. This team, as constructed, needs a healthy, productive Sano in the lineup. They don't have that right now which is bad, anyway you slice it.
  18. This season is going to suck, isn't it?
  19. The other way of looking at is that, after two drafts and two trade deadlines, the new FO has brought in one consensus top 100 guy (Lewis). I don't think that's fair but I'm not sure we should be raving about the trade deadline guys. (I was stunned at how bad Littell looked when he was called up last year. It amazed me that our baseball minds thought he was an option as a starting pitcher.) I think the draft/development group is in good hands and I liked the way the FO has dealt with Steil and Johnson.
  20. Lewis and Kiriloff really help make the system look better but this seems more like quantity over quality. We only have three consensus top 100 guys (Graterol being the third and even Klaw didn't have him). I know that the team has a ton of upside guys that could rocket up these lists next year (and I expect many will) but right now it seems a bit premature to rave about this group. I'm also a bit doubtful on the best-case ceilings on a number of these guys outside the top three, especially on the pitching side.
  21. I think this article is a bit forgiving of the FO and ownership. They had an opportunity to make significant improvements to the team in a way they've never had before and they decided not to do it. Locking up a few 2-3 WAR players isn't getting it done. Ownership hasn't signaled to fans that they are committed to building a competitive team so I'm not sure why fans should commit to this team. I imagine if the team has a lousy April, TF attendance will be quite low this year.
  22. Have really enjoyed Shopify, appreciate the tip. Don't really have much money to invest right now and our next big buy will be extremely conservative since we're growing older. Probably an index fund but maybe even some treasury bonds.
  23. I'm ok with locking him up since I think he can play second or even third in a worst case scenario. And it's a good sign to the other players that the Twins will lock up core guys. But this has been a pretty disappointing off-season.
  24. The game seems to be changing so low on-base, high power guys might be more valuable than we thought a few years ago. I'm not sure. I hope Rooker pushes his way into the Twins lineup quickly though.
