I'm not a fan of this FO but I will say both the Buxton and Bundy signings made me pleasantly surprised. They have more work to do in getting a pitching staff together but for now I'll give them an incomplete.

Going into last season, I said I thought Levine should be on the hot seat. I have not been impressed by him and have constantly stated that his job, when he took it, was to supplement the strong core and keep the window of opportunity open longer than it should be open. He failed to do that. I was willing to give Falvey a bit more slack, in part because I'm not convinced he was too blame, maybe he's the "big picture guy." But so far I've been pretty unimpressed by his pitching pipeline or his minor league system. How much of that is on Falvey, I'm not sure. But I'm ready for both of them to go. I'll also say how I detest how the Twins are lowering expectations. A few years ago they were promising us that they'd remain competitive through 2022, locking up Kepler, Polanco, and Sano past those years and we'd still have Berrios and Buxton as well. Now it looks like we'll be lucky to be .500. So, yeah, I'm ready to move on.

I no longer really care. I'm strongly against the PED players getting in but a lot of them are already in. If guys like Bonds, Ortiz and Clemens don't get a plague, so what? They are still "in" the HOF in that their are parts of countless exhibits and baseball records. At the end, it comes down to what you want in your HOF. Is the plaque room the HOF? Or is the museum? Do you think the HOF should only honor the best of the best or should it honor baseball's history? Can you tell Baseball's history without Clemens? Probably not, but do you tell the history or do you hide it? Does his plaque point out his PED ties? So, I don't care. I'm thrilled beyond words that Buck O'Neil, Minnie Minuso, and Tony Oliva are in the HOF. That's good enough for me this year.

I love agadmator. He's fantastic for breaking down games for non-GMs. (A few GMs have mentioned his work but also said that what he's saying isn't that relevant to their thinking process). Here's his excellent video of Magnus v. Alireza at the Tata Steel tournament last year. I watched the last half hour or so of it and was really exciting. My wife called me a nerd. ? Magnus won't quit. He wants to be #1 all-time and to do that, he needs to be "the guy" for 20 years, like Kasparov did. Lastly, GMHikura (once ranked #2 in the world and current blitz world champion) has a nice youtube channel as well. But his thinking process is insane, when he gets into it.

AFTER the lockout, what do the Twins need to do?

They need pitching. Again, they have a playoff caliber offense more or less in place, even with a black hole at short. But they need to be able to pitch better than the 2013 squad. I'm honestly not sure how they'll get it and I'm sure their plan (bullpen games galore) will annoy me, but that's what they need to do. -
Anyone watching the chess championship? Magnus Carlson v. Ian Nepomniachtchi. Carlson has won three games (Game 6, 8, and 9). Game 6 was the longest game in chess world championship history while Nepo blundered a bit (by GM standards) in games 8 and 9. I'm no good at chess but I've really enjoyed watching this. This guy has a fun chess youtube channel for those who want to see more.

That was a pretty impressive loss. Can count up five or six things that, had the Vikings simply not done that, easy win. Run out the clock, kick the winning field goal being near the top. Fortunately, I missed the last two minutes b/c I was on a work call but it looked pretty epic. I'm positive Zimmer won't be coaching here next year. Less sure about Spielman but I'd think it's more likely than not that he's gone. Also, unrelated, but a 17 game season is really stupid.

Absolutely great for that kid to transfer. I can believe it happened but what an stupid thing for a coach to say to a child. Also glad that his classmates walked out for him and against the school. https://www.binnews.com/content/2021-11-29-baseball-star-transfers-after-racist-remark-from-school-administrator/ Iona prep has had some ML players and more than a few kids to have played college ball. Sounds like a few people might lose their jobs over it.

FO's tentativeness is killing the team

I'm not sure I'm as worried as others but it's mostly b/c I didn't expect this FO to do much. To be competitive next year, they needed to completely overhaul the pitching staff and they don't have enough internal options to make that happen. Pohlads won't let them increase payroll so they're sorta stuck in no-man's land. To compete, they needed three strong starting pitchers, which they can't afford. Instead, Levine suggested a few weeks ago that the Twins will be looking at multi-inning relievers and we will probably be a pitching staff where only two or three pitchers even throw 100 innings and each game is a five pitcher game. Basically, a reenactment of last season with a few new faces. -

I think this might very well happen. Maybe not all three (Rodgers, Polanco and Kepler) are traded but two of them are but then ownership signs Buxton and we'll hear for seven years how Buxton's salary is holding the team back. -

Bit of the eye of the beholder there. The Al hitters average line last year was .245/.316/.415, a .731 OPS. Except for those 11 games in August, each other month was above average.

You seem far more invested in this then I am. I probably would still rather have Martin because he potentially plays positions that are harder to fill while the Twins have a lot of corner OF types. But your attitude on this is surprisingly hostile and your quick take and strawman arguments are not helpful.

Sure, that happens to most players. He was also playing at three levels higher than he had ever played after miss all of 2020 and most of 2019. He might be a flash in the pan but I hope not.

What's so wrong with that? They are the same age, one is in the majors, one is in AA. Before his injury, Baddoo was talked about a lot on the prospect boards as a sneaky good player who will jump up on the top 100 lists. He got hurt so he didn't, but he was perceived as having that talent by at least some evaluators. Martin's ranked somewhere from the mid 30s to the mid 50s in most rankings right now and seen as a strong hit, low power, questionable defensive guy. They are pretty different players and Martin probably has the higher upside but it's not a silly argument to say that Baddoo will be the better major leaguer.

The problem with the trade is what it means. This FO's job was to keep the window of opportunity open for the core they inherited. They had Buxton, Berrios, Sano, Kepler, Polanco etc all under team control through (at least) next year. They made promises to compete to the fans. Instead, they failed to do what they were supposed to do, won't attempt to buy pitching to fix their mistakes, so they started the sell off. Buxton will likely be traded this summer as well. So instead of competing through at least 2022, as promised, accepting the Berrios trade means fans have to accept that this team won't be competitive for a few more years. The trade from a prospect stand point was a good one for the Twins. We got a good return. But I'd rather the Twins were committed to getting to the playoffs next year instead.

One of the things that bugs me about the Buxton situation is that, had Buxton been healthier, he would absolutely priced himself out of MN. But because he has some injuries, we can afford to keep him longterm and the FO seems skittish.
