  1. I'm not sure the players did as bad as you think. Nix got a million dollars to settle his grievance and then signed the next year with the padres for 900k so came out a bit ahead. Marshall got 750k the following year although I'm not sure if he was involved in the grievance. Aiken turned down the 5m offer the Astros offered and got half that from Cleveland but he also received an undisclosed amount from insurance as well.
  2. Anyone try Chernobyl or The Hot Zone? I'm enjoying both.
  3. Yeah, if Nix had won his grievance, the Astros would have been forced to pay him 1.5m which would have put them over the allowed pool amount and cost them a first round draft pick the following year. So they basically paid him 1m to drop his grievance. Can't remember if Marshall also got something.
  4. This was more or less the Astros Brady Aiken mess. They assumed he'd sign for 5m and leave them 2m+. With that they were going to sign Jacob Nix and Mac Marshall (I think). After Aiken didn't sign they had to not sign those two but Nix brought a grievance and the teams settled out of court with Nix getting nearly all the promised money.
  5. Off topic but it might be interesting to get a thread updating how some of our non-top 20 prospects are doing. Guys like Cabbage, Blankenhorn, Jax, Balazovic, Raley all seem to be having nice years.
  6. Yep, looks like it'll be a pretty bad period coming up. I own some Indian stocks that have been destroyed with Brexit and the trade wars - like thousands in the red. Could sell and get a tax write off at this point. Deere is down 5% today. Great company, I think, in the longterm but it might get cheaper for a bit.
  7. I'm not sure why anyone would think we should poison the water with one of our most important players. He's doing fine on his rehab assignment and we need his bat. Gonzalez is posting a 55 OPS+.
  8. Buehler is the one we should regret passing on, not Bennintendi. Buehler was actually in the discussion for the Twins and there was some expectation we'd take him. He and Berrios would look great together.
  9. Blankenhorn is having a solid season - .279/.356/.442 across A+/AA. My understanding is the Twins see him as a super utility type (maybe their Marvin Gonzalez). He's only 22. Especially with benches going to 26 players in a few years, he'll be a MLer.
  10. I think Eddie is the team leader in the clubhouse but Buxton is the face of the team for the fans.
  11. Glad to hear that Stewart will get another start. I still think he can help the ML club. Good that Cabbage is hitting in A+ (SSS). Kiriloff and Sano might be on the same team at the end of the year, too.
  12. Right now, CJ Cron is posting a 81 OPS+. He's not getting it done. His defense is good but he's not going to stop the Twins from bringing up an uber-prospect, much like Dougie Baseball didn't stop us from bringing up Morneau.
  13. Currently, the Twins minor leagues have given us a few pleasant surprises (Balozavic, Rortvedt, Jeffers, Arreaz) but a lot of injuries (Javier, Kiriloff, Gordon, Gonsalves, Severino) and some rough starts (Larnich .682 OPS in, Rooker .269 OBP, Thorpe 8.19 era, Enlow 6.94 era, Baddoo .198 avg, Celestino .458 OPS) among our top 20 prospects. I'm still a believer in most of our struggling guys but Enlow is a head scratcher. He's never looked good. I think Kiriloff is going to be a Mauer-like bat for us for a decade. Maybe a few more homers but huge avg/obp guy. Really nice to see him hitting and taking walks in AA.
  14. Royce Lewis is starting to heat up a bit as well - he's had five 2 hit games in his last 8 games. Balazovic is going to skyrocket up these lists. I think he's already our second best pitching prospect. That 2016 draft is going to be amazing for us.
  15. Hoping NEWR has a nice run, as well. Additionally, while I don't own Adobe but my kids do and that's been on a nice run.
  16. mlbpipeline likes him well enough and Atlanta just promoted him to AA. He's certainly not a lock to make it to the majors and he might end up as a bullpen arm.
  17. Graterol and Balazovic are really exciting prospects. Jax pitching a lot better than I thought he could. I remember thinking he wouldn't be top 30 in our system last year. He's really stepped up now that he's pitching full time.
  18. I'm not very impressed with the pitchers in our top 20, outside of Graterol. Nice to see Smeltzer pitch well but his upside is limited. The FO made a lot of trades at the deadline the last two years but I'm not sure the returns are all that inspiring. Certainly too early to make a final decision but, ugh. I'd much rather have Ynoa back than Littell. Nice to have Gordon and Kiriloff back and good to see Sano is moving. Seems like Lewis is getting hot, too.
  19. Seriously, Mike, thanks for the Shopify suggestion. That is a fun stock.
  20. https://www.mlb.com/news/replacing-vlad-jr-as-mlb-s-top-prospect?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage
  21. He certainly has the talent to be in the discussion but so do others. I expect he'll be #1 on a few lists by the end of the year though. But Mize threw a no-hitter tonight in AA.
  22. I really like Rortvedt. I was kicking around putting him #10 in the TT voting and now I'm sure he is.
  23. I thought it was pretty good although I probably liked individual movies in the MCU better. Didn't like one part at the end which seemed out of character but they really did a great job considering all those movies.
