  1. I don't think we'll see much change, honestly. My guess is that they'll resign Pineda and we'll hear whispers about how the Twins are in on Cole, Strasburg, Bumgarner and Kuechel but they'll sign Ivan Nova or Tanner Roark on a two year deal. They'll also make a bargain bin grab of someone like Drew Smyly or such. I think this team is going to go into a Rays like rotation behind Berrios and Nova and have maybe three traditional starters and nine bullpen arms being used interchangeably and being shuttled to Rochester. I think we'll trade Rosario and let Wade/Cave hold LF until Kiriloff or Larnach are ready - probably by July. We'll resign Cron and bring back Nelson and go with an IF of Cron, Arreaz, Polanco and Sano. I could see us bringing back Castro in a similar but slightly diminished role but if not him, we'll nab someone else to play 40% of the games behind the plate. The team will hope for a healthy season from Sano and Buxton and continued high play from Kepler/Garver/Polanco. There is some regression in those three but the offense should still be pretty good and the AL central will be weak enough that we could be 10 games worse and probably still win the central next year.
  2. I imagine the FO/ownerships refusal to make significant improvements during the season to a playoff team and simply accept the #3 spot will bite us pretty hard. I don't think we match up well at Yankee stadium. I'd have felt more comfortable with a ground ball pitcher on the mound tonight. Obviously, we have a chance but we all the injuries and iffy rotation I don't think we win a game - again.
  3. 2010 was our magical year and they swept us. I'm not going to believe we can beat them until we actually beat them. Until then, I image that Berrios will give up 3 HR in the first two innings tonight, that we score a few in the fifth but get locked down after that and lose 8-4. I hate being a pessimist.
  4. Market is down a lot this week. Lot of different factors but a lot of smart people seem to think that we are due for a recession. This could be the start of it, I suppose.
  5. I think the Yankee hitters will do what Aaron Hicks did to him - crush him. I'm not really thrilled about sending any lefties at that lineup.
  6. SI has a front page story breaking down the Yankee/Astros ALCS series so .... not everyone is as pumped for Twins/Yankees as you.
  7. I'm sure the Giants knew about it and didn't write it down anywhere.
  8. The last few in the pen probably don't matter. If we need Graterol to pitch, we're already in trouble. I think Gibby in the pen makes sense. The lineup looks right to me.
  9. I hope we resign him. We'll need some starters to stick around.
  10. I'm sure anyone in their right mind would rather have the resources that the Red Sox have over the Twins. But I also think the Red Sox will aim a bit higher than Falvey or Levine.
  11. Watching the video of the Kiriloff HR and the video shows Astudillo rounding the bases and I'm thinking, "woah, Kiriloff has really let himself go."
  12. Every sport has unwritten rules and in every sport they boil down to 'respect your opponent and 'respect the game.'
  13. Man, I would hate having someone that intense teaching kids. The opposing coach did the right thing.
  14. I love the unwritten rules. More fights. More brawls. Make the game more fun. Here's the baseball codes write up on the matter by Jason Turbow. Great book for baseball fans. https://thebaseballcodes.com/2019/08/16/twin-hacks-3-0-gets-teammate-plunked-reminds-us-that-people-still-pay-attention-to-this-kind-of-thing/
  15. Gaver has played first base 40 times in the minors and 9 times in the majors. The Twins don't seem inclined to use him there. And, before his injury, Cron was having a heck of a season - .271/.329/.503 - in more PA than Garver has had this season. He's a good player.
  16. It's been 19 games and less than 80 at-bats due to thumb injuries. I'd give him more reps and assume he'll get back into the groove that he had in the first half. Fans are too quick to give up guys during struggles - Sano, Buxton, Polanco, Kepler etc. Cron's our best first base option right now on a team that should be playing in October.
  17. Kiriloff and Larnich are hitting fairly well at AA - Kiriloff isn't waking enough (6.5%) while Larnich is striking out too much (30%) but both look like they'll be pretty solid ML bats. And Lewis is walking more than Kiriloff and striking out less than Larnich. All three are pretty solid in AA right now. Great to see that.
  18. Very good. Nice links as well
  19. Yep, I mean, I'm not planning on selling any of our holdings and we'll ride this out since we won't need the money for 20 years. But, ouch. We hold in several big areas - big banks and oil/gas - which are getting crushed lately. Hoarding cash for now and hopefully we can buy into the market later at a nice sale price.
  20. Perez, Thorpe, Smeltzer. It doesn't really matter. They are all bad choices for a playoff team. One might get hot for a bit but ... The FO should really be held accountable for not getting a starter at the deadline.
  21. ugh. This series is not going as I expected/hoped. Going to the lake tomorrow so won't have to watch the next two. Jeepers.
