  1. I enjoyed that movie. I remember when it was happening in real time and how corrupt the system was. I've lucked out over the years and had a few stocks that have just shot through the roof and the pressure of "should I sell now or hold" is real. I felt so bad for the nurse in that movie.
  2. How do the new OT rules work? Like, if the first team scores a TD and then the other team ties it, does it become sudden death? Or does the second team always get a chance to tie?
  3. I like this plan especially if we get one of the #4-6 QBs with our second pick. We can sign a bridge QB for one year for all I care. If they came out of the first two rounds with Dallas Turner and JJ McCarthy (whom I'm higher than you on), I'd be thrilled.
  4. I don't see a scenario where JJ isn't a Viking. If they can't agree to terms, I think they can franchise tag him two years in a row, right? With that and the fifth year option we hold, that means he's a Viking, no matter what, until after the 2026 season. (Unless I'm completely wrong, feel free to correct me). You'd have a royally pissed off WR, of course. And the franchise tags would be very, very expensive. But I believe the FO could do that.
  5. Oh, didn't mean to imply there aren't reasons to not like Dak. There are many. But he does also deal with some ugly racist stuff.
  6. I don't hate the Cowboys like I did back in the 90s but I don't wish them well. Jerry Jones is a truly bad person. So I'd be thrilled if they collapse completely next year. But I will say that the racism around Dak Prescott bums me out a lot and I'd be happy to see him win just to shut up some really bad people, even though it would also make Jones happy.
  7. I'm not sure I'd want him as a DC at this point but some kind of defensive assistant probably can't hurt.
  8. I like the offense, don't like the pitching staff. Anywhere between 75-85 wins seems reasonable.
  9. The lineup, if you squint, could be really good. I'm probably more bullish on the lineup then most but I really like the depth we have with Lee and Martin close to MLB ready. The pitching staff will likely sink the Twins but I thought that last year and was (wonderfully) wrong. They'll throw a bunch of arms out there, hopefully they can find 1400+ innings of solid production.
  10. Good for him.
  11. Me neither. If Washington was willing to trade #2, I'd certainly be ok with moving up get one of them but they won't.
  12. I honestly think the Vikings are hoping to resign Cousins, use #11 to take a defensive stud, and draft McCarthy at 42 and develop him. I'm not sure that can work out - QBs tend to move up draft boards really fast and McCarthy is a first rounder on several already. But I don't think the Vikings can get one of the top three. Those seem to be going 1, 2, 3.
  13. This article suggests they are thinking like that and have rumored interest in Texas' DL Byron Murphy II. If he helps stop the rush, I'm ok with it, I guess.
  14. I love mock drafts. This one has Jayden Daniels dropping past 11 but the Vikings taking ... Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama. And then Daniels drops all the way down to ... Green Bay. Wow. I almost want that to happen just to see Nick's reaction.
  15. I think that's part of the ebb and flow of the game. Right now, a lot of teams probably think they need to get better defensively. They probably think, "fudge, SF can win with a 7th round draft pick so long as you have a great defense" so they want to create that. I say this only partly in jest. I was surprised on what Seattle did, too. Carroll was a pretty good coach and was seen as a player's coach but the defense really did fall apart the last few years. Maybe they think they can keep the offense - more or less - where it's at and see if McDonald can move the defense up. But McDonald is a heck of a coach. Only 36 but has worked with Harbaugh(s) for a decade. He's probably seen as the defensive version of KOC. But that Flores (and other coaches of color) aren't getting these chances is a pretty bad look. I can't imagine there is a white version of Eric Bieniemy right now.
  16. Looking more at Pitt, they have a new GM who took over for the 2022 season - the first year the Steelers didn't have Rothlesberger. His first ever draft pick was Kenny Pickett. (George Pickens is a solid 2nd round pick). So it might be hard for the GM to say Pickett isn't the guy. So they hire an OC that can take the pressure off of him - run heavy with Harris and Warren. (Warren is really underrated. I wonder if the Vikes could steal him with a low round pick?). Hope that Tomlin can get the defense running again with more health. Looking at their schedule, it really is something that they managed 10 wins with the schedule they had. It was a monster.
  17. My guess is that this is Tomlin's last year in Pit and then the fan base will get all the losing seasons they've been hoping for.
  18. Assuming the Vikes don't resign Cousins or Hunter, and Smith retires, does anyone know how much cap space they will actually have for next year? I know Cousins has some dead cap space if we don't resign him. Not sure about Smith and retirement.
  19. They got a top 100 prospect, a potentially useful bullpen arm, and junk for Polanco while saving money. This feels (both good and bad) like a pretty Twinsy-trade. I like that it frees up space. The Twins pitching plan seems to be throw stuff at wall, see what sticks and this gives them some more stuff to throw. Gonzalez has some flags - might be too aggressive and not walk enough - but he's the type of young bat we need more of. So I hope he works out.
  20. Vikings defense was better than Detroit's defense so ...
  21. You're right. He missed all of 2020, over half of 2021, but had been mostly healthy the last two seasons. Either way, I wouldn't commit money to him as a 30 year old free agent. (Even though he'll kill us if he signs with det).
  22. In fairness to ownership (which pains me, a lot), they did go all-in. They signed Cousins. They had a top defense from 15-17 but a different QB each year (Teddy, Bradford, Keenan). Cousins was supposed to fix it. He was the #1 QB on the market (by far). He was the missing piece. And the defense was really good in 18 and 19. So we finally had both the elite D and the elite QB. In retrospect, it was clear that the head coach wasn't ready/able to have a pass heavy offense. Spielman should have gotten a HC that would, but that was a hard decision to make. But the Vikes have been tied to an elite QB (by some definition) the last few years. I think trying to plug holes as the pop up and ride the QB isn't necessarily an awful idea. Now, I think they have two choices. 1) Ride Cousins again, he's still elite and their #1 player loves him. 2) Draft a QB and hope he fits. Hunter is gone - and should be. He's 30 and missed a bunch of time the last three years. I can see arguments for both but - at least to me - the key thing is I think they have offensive and defensive minds (KOC and Flores) who are in agreement on overall team strategy and both know how to build what they want. You won't see Zimmer mistakes here.
  23. Not completely Gopher's related but Harbaugh is leaving Michigan. I wonder if he knows a bunch of **** is going to come out and Michigan is going to get hammered. Sorta like how Pete Carroll fled USC right before the NCAA rulings came down, twenty years ago.
  24. This play. Man. It's a bit bittersweet because the Twins still lost the game. But after that game, Yankee fans flooded Twins' fans blogs and forums and said how great Mauer would look in pinstripes. Boston fans showed up, too. Part of me wonders if he would have hit. .400 at Fenway but I'm really glad he stayed. Great, great career.
  25. I guess I just don't get the negativity. They won 13 games last season and they played most of this season without Cousins. It seems like people don't want to give them credit for last year (they were lucky!) but want to give them all the blame this year. It's way too early to judge Kwesi or KOC but I tend to think both are improvements over Spielman and Zimmer. I liked the Hockenson trade. KOC has certainly seemed to improve the offense and bringing in Flores (whether that's a KOC or Kwesi decision) was a good one. When they were hired, we knew that the defense was in trouble and the improvement we saw in one year of Flores makes me think that the team has a plan and knows what kind of players fit its scheme. We'll see how the off-season goes but I think it is far too early to give up on both of them.
