  1. Last year's draft wasn't that bad - Addison, Blackmon and Pace all seem good. Spielman had some bad drafts that are hurting us more. Realistically, it would be really surprising if KOC or Kwesi were on the hot seat. They created a top offense and were likely a playoff team this year without Cousins' injury.
  2. He might get there? Is Stroud elite? Burrow? Herbert? Lawrence? Prescott? Name the elite QBs this year.
  3. Who do you think is elite? This is nuts. Purdy leads the league, by a pretty large margin, in rating, yards per attempt, yards per completion, etc. He's top 4 in pretty much every good QB stat. When he was playing bad - or when he was hurt - the 49ers were losing games. If he didn't get hurt in the NFC championship game, SF likely wins the Superbowl.
  4. KC, Buffalo, Houston and Baltimore all have elite QBs (I assume). Is Goff elite? Because Detroit's defense is really bad (19th) Is Baker elite? Because Tampa's defense isn't great (23rd) Is Love elite? Because the Packer's defense isn't great (17th) Is Purdy elite? (Doesn't really matter because SF's defense is really good). Vikings defense was better than three out of the four NFC playoff teams left. Is a healthy Cousins elite? Is he better than Goff, Baker, or Love? Again, the NFL is so good at keeping teams close to each other that, if you have a good QB, you can compete. I suspect the Vikings think Cousins is still a top 10 QB (and probably higher).
  5. I just disagree. Except for SF and Baltimore, you don't really have perfect teams. Cleveland gets lit up by a rookie QB. So their #1 defense must be a fraud, right? In 9 out of 17 games, we held the opposing team to 21 points or less. We were 13th in points allowed. It's not what we had a few years ago but it's not as bad as fans keep insisting. I think. Losing Hunter will be bad but we have a good draft pick, a little bit of money for free agents. On offense, even with Cousins missing half the year, we were 10th in yards. Sure, it would be nice to upgrade at guard and WR3 (and RB, depending on how you feel about Chandler) but these aren't huge holes.
  6. I think it's a bit off to say the Vikings aren't close. You could make a real case that a healthy Cousins would have let the Vikings win the division (you could also disagree but without 6 turnovers against Detroit and 4 against Chicago, those games are probably different, at a minimum). The defense made huge jumps, from the second worst to middle of the pack. Another year of progress? With a healthy Cousins, the Vikes beat SF and were close against KC, the best two teams (probably). And, of course, football is very hard. Philly looked like the best team, by far, early in the season and utterly collapsed. So, who knows. Catch fire at the right time ... I think it's going to be hard to replace Hunter but the offense is basically there. Get lucky with pick 11, add DT Sweat from Texas to plug the running game ... this isn't a horrible team. They were an injured team. My guess is they bring Cousins back and try to win.
  7. Assuming the Vikings somehow resign Cousins to a deal that makes him the QB this year and next (maybe some extra years tacked on) and Hunter leaves, what do you think the Vikings should do with the draft? (They have a first and second but no third this year). A) best edge rusher available B) best corner available C) trade back for more picks than A/B. D) QB for the future! My very early opinion is that if they can move back modestly (no more than 10 slots), fine. But they need talent and pick 11 could see some interesting players available. I'd probably stay pat, suck it up, and make my picks, hoping a great edge rusher is there at 11 and Texas' monster DT is there at 42.
  8. Vikings have two players on PFF's all-rookie team, Pace and Blackmon. And, while Addison didn't make it at WR, he seems like a really good player.
  9. While A Momentary Lapse of Reason wasn't Pink Floyd's greatest album, it did have some solid songs, including Learning to Fly.
  10. Fun round even though most games weren't that competitive. 1) Really nice to see Cleveland lose and Baker win. Not sure I've ever seen a team destroy good will faster than the Browns when they went all in on the Watsun. I used to feel bad for them but not now. 2) The NFL is tough. As Vanimal said, the Eagles window seems to have closed (Dallas might never get theirs open). It is hard to stay at the top, which is why the NFL is so successful (IMHO). 3) 8 QBs left standing - AFC has Jackson v. Stroud - should be fun; Mahomes v. Allen, again(!!) will be great. NFC has Goff v. Love and Baker v. Burdy. One of these is not like the other. 4) I'm like 67% sure that we're going to get a Detroit/Green Bay championship game because it sucks to be a Vikings fan.
  11. He made too many trades his first year but last year we got Addison, who looks like he'll be a pretty good WR. We didn't have another pick in the top 100 but Blackmon showed some promise for a third rounder. Probably a little early to say he can't draft although we'll only have two picks before the fourth round, so ... It's really Speilman's last draft - 2021 - that hurts. Five top 100 picks and only Darrisaw to show for it.
  12. We bought AT&T a while back. One of our worst picks, actually.
  13. Kwesi Kupcakes?
  14. I'm not sure that's true. Admittedly, I'm not a scout but in the Michigan games I've seen, he's got a really good arm. And the scouting reports I've read on him agree. My personal feeling, backed by absolutely nothing, is that QBs bust for a few reasons - 1) addiction issues - can't fix that 2) mental health issues - can't fix that 3) injuries - can't fix that 4) being in the wrong system/bad coaching. I think #4 is the main problem. Freaks like Peyton Manning and Joe Burrow are going to be good anywhere but normal QBs, even upper level ones, thrive with good coaching and fail with bad coaching (Either being rushed or playing in an offense that doesn't fit them, sometimes both, etc). The one thing I think the Vikings have with KOC is a coach who knows how to coach up a certain type of QB (pocket passer, throws deep, keeps his eyes downfield). I think guys like Dwayne Haskins or Daniel Jones could (or Zach Wilson or Sam Darnold) might have been good NFL QBs in the right system/right amount of seasoning. So if the team thinks, "McCarthy (Nix/Penix) is a perfect fit for us", I'm ok with them drafting him. If it doesn't work, they all get fired anyway.
  15. If they sign Kirk, the first round pick should be one of the elite edge rushers. I'd be ok with a second round pick on one of Nix, McCarthy, Sanders, etc, if the FO thinks they can be a NFL QB. I'm not sure the 4-6 rated QBs will be there for our second pick but if we resign Kirk, that's the risk I think we have to take.
  16. Head coaches getting the axe: Falcons fired Arthur Smith and Washington has fired Ron Rivera. No word yet on Bellichek.
  17. Tanking doesn't work and it's something that seriously hurts the sport. Both the NBA and MLB have had to deal with teams tanking and it ruins the product. The NFL gets this right. I'm glad the Vikings played to win every game. I wish they had beat the Bucs. I'm not going to criticize the FO or KOC for trying to win. Now that the season is over, let's see what their plan is. They need to fix the defense, hopefully Flores sticks around and the team can see improvement for next year. As for QB, the draft might have as many as seven first round QBs. We're drafting high enough that we can get Nix, Penix, McCarthy if we want them. We could probably trade up a few spots if we really wanted to as well.
  18. Seems the big needs are 1) qb decision (I'd prefer we draft a qb rather then bring back Cousins but I suspect we bring him back) 2) every level of the defense Offense can be good without too much touch up. But not sure what they can do through free agency on the defensive side. They need so much.
  19. You know what, for a losing team this was an exciting year.
  20. Circling back to this. We added a bunch of amazon stock to our longterm account and bought more index funds. We've been holding and buying traditionally strong stocks, which seems to be unsexy but working. Will fund our IRAs soon, probably with something like PEP, JNJ, or UNH.
  21. Good call on Ward. Ward ranks #125 overall and #12 among QBs according to this article. https://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/2024-nfl-draft-washington-state-star-qb-cameron-ward-declares-after-weighing-options-in-transfer-portal/ That said, the article says he could go higher depending on how he does in pre-draft workouts.
  22. QBs move up so fast between the end of college football season and the draft so I'm not sure who will be there at 12. (Also, I suspect we lose to Detroit so we will draft 9th or 10th). Gun to my head, Chicago, NE, and Giants all draft QBs and the Vikings will pick after all of them. So Daniels shouldn't be there anyway. Penix had a great last game so that'll impress scouts. I could see him getting taken by Tennessee or even the Jets if they aren't sold on Rodgers coming back full health. (or just to learn behind him?).
  23. https://www.profootballnetwork.com/2024-nfl-mock-draft-thursday-week-18/ This mock has the Vikings moving up 4 spots in the draft to draft Penix. If they do that, I don't think they'd resign Cousins but probably would make Jefferson the highest paid non-QB in the game.
  24. I think KOC is a good coach. His team seems to love him, and he's a good offensive mind. That said, his weakness was amplified after Cousins left. He doesn't seem capable of changing his game plans for his QB's skills. The Giants coaches seemed to call a few different plays for Devito, for instance. As for Hall, this write up suggests he was a day 3 pick so probably not a reach. Just didn't work out.
  25. Anyone remember the great starburst commercial that was inspired by this song?
