  1. Agreed completely. A college pitcher might also get up here quicker (not that that should be the deciding factor) and be part of the Lewis/Kiriloff wave.
  2. Changing subjects, anyone see the ending of the The Americans? One of my favorite shows and it had a strong ending, although not the one I wanted them to have.
  3. I agree with most of that but I'd point out that most players of his ability get some kind of insurance before they go to college to offset some of that risk. But our #20 pick is worth 3.1m and I'm sure the Twins could probably get that up toward 4m if they really had to. My guess is that they don't overpay since they lost two picks already but they could.
  4. I'd pay, assuming I could use the Pohlads money. Of all the prep arms, I think he's the one that's gonna end up being the best one.
  5. None of our starters is top ten in fWAR, bWAR, ip or era. On the hitting side, Mauer is 4th in OBP but hurt. Kepler and Rosario are both in the top 10 in doubles and Rosario is top 10 in fWAR among OFers. Frankly, after the top 4, the rest are all bunched together. You could make a claim that he's the fifth best OFer in the AL without looking too stupid (or tenth best). Given that he gives the AL a LH bench bat/pinch runner, I think he'll be the pick.
  6. Yep, sometimes pointing and saying we won't tolerate that kind of talk is the best thing we can do. The people spouting that nonsense are probably beyond saving but others aren't.
  7. I certainly wasn't as down on him as you were but I thought he'd need more time to get his hitting back on track. Really impressive season so far.
  8. Agreed. Really hoping Rocker or Kowar drop to us.
  9. We'll see if the Pohlads will spend it. They've been a pretty low payroll team for quite some time. Even the modest investments they made - as a playoff team - didn't move them up the payroll that much if you compare it to other teams. I believe we're 18th in payroll to start the year after being 21st last year.
  10. Ugh. Not sure what to do at this point but something should be done. This season is going to fall apart soon, if it hasn't already.
  11. Well, we shouldn't assume the Pohlad's would eat money if they didn't have to so this isn't a big surprise. Villalobos seems like depth which is nice but the loss of the pick (and the pool money) will hurt us a bit in the draft.
  12. Q: Why isn't Garver playing more? A: Molitor is a bad manager.
  13. Gordon with another home run. The fangraphs writer noted that Gordon was working on his swing to get more out of his raw power into games. So far, so good.
  14. Yep, it was a good deal. Twins were paying him #3 money (and less AAV than Nolasco). His shoulder broke. Good luck to him in the future.
  15. Yep, I was hoping for a Cuddyer like player out of him and it looks like he might be able to pull that off. Still would like to see a few more walks but he should be promoted this season. Barring injury, I'd expect he'll be a unanimous top 100 guy next season.
  16. I think Lewis has to be close to a promotion. I'd imagine that the Twins wait for the all-star break but I think they could do it now. I wouldn't skip A+ though. We saw the jump from A+ to AA is rough (look at Rooker), I can't see a A to AA jump.
  17. Was Buxton's bunt ruled a hit or an error? I saw the play on mlbtv this morning and I couldn't believe how fast he got to first on a bunt more or less straight back to the pitcher.
  18. I hadn't been following him much but I picked Bechtold to be a sleeper break out guy this year and, oof, he's really struggling in A ball - .198/.280/.240. I didn't not expect that at all. I'd like to see Kiriloff fix his k/bb rates a bit but he is really stinging the ball. Maybe he'll have to move up before address those issues.
  19. Good road trip. Splitting four games with the Angels is pretty good, especially with all the injuries the team has right now. They could easily have won yesterday. I'm getting sick of these rough losses (6 walk offs already?).
  20. Yeah. About a decade or so ago the Twins managed to get a bunch of decent seasons out of guys like Blackburn (two 2 WAR seasons), Slowey (one), Baker (three) types. Not great pitchers but they knew how to pitch with the stuff they had. I'm starting to think Littell could have that kind of impact. Solid back of the rotation type who might pitch above his stuff a bit.
  21. In his first 19 games (72 PA), he didn't walk once and struck out 33% of the time. In his last ten games, his walk rate has been 13% and his k-rate is 25% in 44 PA. It's just too early to worry. He's making adjustments but we won't see those in his overall line for a bit. It'll take time but he's on progress. It wasn't realistic to expect him to light up AA pitching as soon as he saw it. What's important is if he can make the adjustments.
