Three of our prospects made the Tuesday top prospect list at mlbpipeline. https://www.mlb.com/news/stephen-gonsalves-leads-tuesdays-top-prospects/c-287240092?tid=151437456

Since May 9th, Rooker is hitting .292/.362/.594 with 28% k-rate and 10% walk rate. I'm still concerned about the strike outs but I hope they push him to AAA. Kiriloff is just killing high A pitching. .370/.397/.571 in 29 games. Wow. And only a 15% k rate. He's not taking any walks right now but if you're hitting .370, that's not a problem. He's clearly taking good at-bats. Honestly, promote him to AA and see what happens.

Agreed. He can flat out hit. The fangraphs scouting guy is pretty big on Kiriloff and he'll probably be a consensus top 50 prospect this offseason on all the ranking sites.

Yeah, that's my feeling too. I have some friends who own it and love it - they're almost cultish on it - but ...

Anyone have thoughts on Tesla?

Pretty much the AAA relief arms plus Gonsalves and Romero are all ML ready right now. Gordon will probably be up 2019 and maybe Rooker if things go right.

Article: 2018 Twins Midseason Top Prospect List: 1-5
gunnarthor replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is probably more an "eye of the beholder" type thing but looking at the elite systems over the last few years, this current group isn't there. Twins, Cubs, Astros, Braves etc all had a bunch of truly elite guys. A little harder to go through the lists now that BA is behind pay walls but prospect guys were gushing over those systems as containing not just future starters but future all-star/mvp/cy young types. The 2015 BA top 100 was insane. I'm not sure the minors is as stocked right now as it was a few years ago. Those teams had (and have) loaded systems. Right now, maybe Lewis would have fit into the Buxton/Sano tier? Graterol might get there. Kiriloff will have to hit like crazy to get to that level and he's not there yet.- 74 replies

Nice write up. Graterol is really intriguing and I hope the Twins push him a bit. It will be interesting to see how the national publications rate him in the coming months. Lewis has high upside but this review has certainly shown that, at least for now, the Twins have depth but they don't have a ton of true elite guys in the system. Lewis, Graterol and Kiriloff might be and a few other guys could get there but it's mostly a deep system as opposed to high end. IMHO.- 74 replies

Article: Front Office Flop for the Twins?
gunnarthor replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
They haven't had a lot of successful moves yet, have they? We liked their draft last year but they had a lot of advantages with extra picks and we're a long way off from finding out if it was a solid draft. This years draft was boring but ok. They sold at the deadline last year, pissing off the players. I liked most of their off-season moves (understanding that the Pohlads weren't going to give them Darvish) but few of them have worked. The biggest problem for me is that they chose to bring back Molitor who is obviously not the right manager for these players. This is the second time in three years that the players look absolutely lost and ill-prepared for the season. It's not just one group - it's everyone. It's an utter mess. I think Molitor is as good as gone and Levine should get one more season to make his mark before I start calling for his head but we learned some stuff about the new FO in the last year and it wasn't good. Next off-season will be huge for them.- 134 replies

Yeah, I almost sold last week but decided to hang onto it through this. Hope I made the right decision but it's certainly a fun stock to own. My wife and I have some cash on-hand right now but we're sitting it out for a bit. Not sure what/where to buy in this economy.

I think the Twins would be wise to let Buxton have his full rehab assignment in the minors before bringing him back up. One of his problems over the last several years is that he's been in and out of lineups too often, either because of injury and/or demotions. He hasn't even about 120 at bats in the majors and AAA this year and only played in 35 games. Last year he struggled a bit but was able to make the adjustments a couple different times as needed and the team let him work it out and he remained more or less healthy.

Several reasons you don't want to do that. The first is that the FO probably hasn't quite given up on this season so sending a guy with a 7.50+ ERA for the last month is telling fans they don't care about the season. Secondly, Romero could use some confidence. Getting beat up regularly in the majors isn't good for anyone. It creates self-doubt and forces him to overpitch. Let him relax. He'll be up again. And, as others have noted, he'll be on an innings limit this year so a bit of rest right now won't hurt him. Lastly, the Twins have other guys in AAA or on assignments that also deserve chances to pitch in the majors. Mejia made 21 starts for the a playoff team last year and is posting a sub 3.00 era in AAA right now (and has been even hotter over the last month). Keeping him in the minors while someone else is struggling as bad as Romero is right now probably sends a worse message to AAA ballplayers.

Nearly every org would do the same thing. Young pitchers often go from the majors to AAA multiple times. The ones that come and stick are the exceptions.

Is Biloxi a good AA team? I imagine Sano is working on conditioning issues and the team probably wants him to work on that more than hammering some A ball pitcher. Nice the Kiriloff got the promotion. Looks like he could be a pretty special bat for us. Sweet.

It's only 7 games but Wade has 5 walks against just one strike out in AAA and 31 walks against 21 strike outs in the minors this year. The guy gets on base. I'd be ok if the FO switched him and Kepler tomorrow. Let this kid get a try out in the majors and let Kepler figure some things out in AAA b/c he's been really bad for six plus weeks now.

If they trade Dozier, they'd have an open spot on the 40 man for Gordon or Petit. -
Probably too early to know/worry. AAA pitching staffs are better than AA ones, even if on a individual night, a AA starter might be the best pitcher Gordon faces in the minors. So Gordon will have to make some adjustments but the fact that he's hitting .300 with some pop is a good sign, even if he couldn't sustain it without making those changes in the long run.

Yep, he's a diamond who had a lot of helium on draft day. mlbpipeline had him #127 on their list in 2016 an they wrote "While still a bit raw, there's a lot to like with this Auburn commit. At 6-foot-3, he's not physically developed yet. There's plenty of room to add strength and velocity. His arm works really well and fires fastballs up to 92 mph already, with heavy sink. He also has a good feel for his changeup. His breaking ball has a ways to go. Right now, it's a slurvy slider kind of caught in between a curve and a slider, with three-quarter break and thrown in the 79-82 mph range. He stays in the strike zone more often than not." BA wrote "Balazovic has a polished changeup that he can locate at the knees with late fade and tumbling action. He throws a breaking ball with 11-to-5 shape in the mid-70s. Balazovic gets his core extended over his front side well and extends his glove hand high for extra deception. Scouts note how rare it is for him to be squared up." Twins signed him for 150k over slot in the 2016 draft. Balazovic was young for his draft class and could have returned to 13th grade in Canada to get drafted the next year, he also had a strong commit to Auburn. He needs to pitch and stay healthy but he has real nice upside. Side note but the 2016 draft is going to push the 2012 draft for the best Twins draft in the last 15 years. The Twins went nuts on high upside and really young high schoolers - 2nd rounders Baddoo and Miranda, 5th rounder Balazovic, 17th rounder Kidany Salva and 28th rounder Matt Jones (also from Canada) were all 17 on draft day. They also picked Kiriloff and Rortvedt and Tyler Benninghoff for over slot in the 11th round.

Agreed. Not sure what's wrong with him but he's not getting the number of grounders and strike outs that I think he should be getting. He'll probably eventually get a call up but he's not looking like an big future part of the pen.

I tend to agree with you but I don't like our current SS options, I think we'll trade Dozier at the deadline (a different thread) and Polanco/Gordon MI should finish out the year.
