  1. Just keep letting Stewart pitch. I think he can be a solid ML pitcher for us but he'll have some growing pains.
  2. Frankly, Ryan made a lot of changes when he came back in 2012 - nearly all minor league coaches are from 2012 or later. Brad Steil came in to run the minors and we saw him be much more aggressive in mid-season promotions. I tend to think the problem isn't really on the minor league coaches/development people. Something isn't clicking on the ML side of this. I still think Molitor is the biggest issue. I'm not sure what it is but we've had a couple seasons now where Molitor's team seemed completely unprepared for the season. I'd like to see a different kind of manager with this core of young players. As to the FO, I agree a lot of things that they did on paper makes sense but many haven't worked out as well as they should've. I'm not sure that means they are doing good things but I can at least understand most of their moves - Logan Morrison is a cheap buy, has good LH power, let's get him. Makes sense, didn't work. Reed is a good young arm with some success, let's sign him. Makes sense, he's not good.
  3. Some of this is conjecture but a lot of it simply isn't true. The reason the Twins were competitive for most of a decade was because Ryan was a pretty aggressive seller - fans on forums back in the 2000s hated how the Twins would let vets go but it was a successful process for a team with payroll concerns. We'll see if the new FO can make and keep the Twins competitive for a similar window of time.
  4. I'm not sure how anyone looks at Kepler plateauing or Sano's issues or how this team is managed and decides that the current FO isn't to blame, but rather the old one. It's too early to make a decision on Levine and Falvey but the early returns haven't been great.
  5. I guess we're still in the honeymoon period for Falvine. Also, the Twins did win 83 games under Ryan in 2015.
  6. I agree with you. In 2006 or 2009, he would have flirted with .400 if he played at Fenway and ESPN would've had breaking news stories on it all the time.
  7. Ignoring the opener bull****, Stewart really looked good yesterday. He had some periods where he was just dealing. There certainly is talent there. I'm not sure the Twins will be able to get all of it out of him but he's had flashes. For those old enough to remember Nick Blackburn and Kevin Slowey, Stewart seems like he has better stuff but doesn't yet know how to pitch like they did when they were on.
  8. I think the FO's argument about performance rings pretty hollow when they brought up Field. If Field's performance has been good enough to warrant a call-up, then so has Buxton's performance. If Buxton's wrist was hurt the FO should be fired for making him play in AAA with an injury. This was service time manipulation that puts 2022 ahead of 2019.
  9. 90 ML at-bats. Injured for most of them. Yes, I want the Twins to hand him CF next year.
  10. It's not impossible that he could be an avg corner OFer for a year if the team wanted to move Kepler for something but that's his ceiling and it's optimistic. He's more likely a decent 4th OFer. But he shouldn't have any bearing on Buxton's future.
  11. If the Twins are dumb enough to move off of Buxton and Sano after a bad year, they deserve everything that comes to them. Buxton is the future of this franchise. Jake Cave is a 4th outfielder. He shouldn't even be in the discussion about the future of this franchise and his feelings shouldn't have any bearing on what this team does.
  12. Because the team just pissed off their most important player to the point that the GM said he knows he has to make amends to Buxton? Because a manager who thinks Jake Cave should compete with Buxton shouldn't manage anymore?
  13. Sounds like Molitior is helping to poisoning the Buxton/Twins relationship as best he can. Molitor was careful not to reveal much of his planned message, one thing he won’t be doing is reassuring Buxton the starting center field job will be his upon reporting to spring training next February. "It's early,” Molitor said. “We’ve got some games here. I would imagine there’s going to be some competition for multiple spots on our team next spring." https://www.twincities.com/2018/09/02/byron-buxton-decision-becomes-sensitive-topic-for-twins-players/
  14. At the end of the day, Buxton got 90 at-bats in the majors this year, over half of them on a broken foot. I understand why the team is doing what they're doing but I hope Buxton files a grievance and wins. Despite his busted year, I'm not really worried about his longterm future. If he can stay healthy, he'll be fine. But this is yet another move by the FO that I don't like or agree with and the number of those moves is starting to add up.
  15. I'll grant you the better facilities in Ft Myers but I disagree with your first paragraph. And I agree that at this point, it's a moot point. The season is almost done. BUT, I do think even just a handful of games at AA could've been helpful for him. It wouldn't have mattered if the sample size is too small for stats. It would have shown Kiriloff what a better slider or change up look like. He could see things that he hasn't seen yet. He's our best pure hitting prospect since Mauer and he's dominating the FSL even more than Mauer did.
  16. What's he learning? Seriously. The defense can be worked at in AA and the quality of opponents is superior. He's dominating that league at 20. Absolutely dominating. There is nothing for him to learn there. He's seen the best pitching high A will throw at him. Why wait 8 months to see if he can hit AA? Send him there now, let him get a taste of it. Even if he goes 1-36, it's good for him to know what to work on.
  17. Honestly, I'm actually upset that the Twins have kept Kiriloff in A+ for this long. He isn't learning anything there. They should push him to a level where he might struggle and see pitches he won't see in A+. Usually, I wouldn't complain since he's coming off an injury and a missed season but his numbers are stupid good. Among players with 200 PA in the FSL, Kiriloff is first in Avg, 8th in OBP (everyone ahead of him is at least 2 years older), 4th in slg (same caveat). He's too advanced for the FSL and he should be in AA looking at new breaking balls and better pitchers.
  18. I actually agree. I don't think he should be on the 40 man but if I were another team, he's the type of guy you might take a flyer on, depending on how many spots you have open on your roster. 'Course, I said the same thing about Stewart and Bard last year and was right on one and wrong on the other.
  19. If you're the White Sox, why not take a look at him? If you don't like him, you can give him back but I'd think some team would want to see if they think they can fix it. Apparently, he still hits mid 90s. I dunno.
  20. I don't see how anyone can describe Molitor as anything but a disaster and if he's back next year I'll start calling for Levine and Falvey's heads. Molitor has been given strong talent and in two of the last three years, his teams have been dumpster fires. If you don't think a manager should be blamed for that, then there's nothing a manager can be blamed for. His players - rookies, vets, starters, relievers, position players - have all looked lost or unprepared. He has not demonstrated any ability to manage and develop young players and likely slowed their development. He's thrown young guys under the bus, overused bullpen arms, refuses to defend his players. I have no idea why anyone would think he should still be managing this team.
  21. I like Baddoo a lot and picked him as a future top 100 guy. I still like him but I am surprised his batting average is that low. I'm worried that all those strike outs are going to be a huge problem for him. This is pretty much every prospect but if Baddoo can just hit, he could be something. His eye and power seem legit. He's got speed. He could be a real nice corner OFer for us but not if he can't hit.
  22. I like Cave and Austin and I'm not ready to call for the heads of Falvey and Levine yet but one of the principle jobs of the guys in the FO should be to know what the team has and looking at some of their transactions, they didn't. Relief pitchers like JT Chargois (3.45 era 116 ERA+ 31ip 38k for Dodgers), Randy Rosario (2.83 era 155 ERA+, 35ip for Cubs), and Nick Burdi (recovering from TJ) would probably help the Twins and we let them all leave for nothing. Starting pitchers Derek Rodriguez (6-1, 2.25 era 180 ERA+, 80ip, 2.5 WAR 12 starts for SF), Anibal Sanchez (9-4, 3.13 era 126 ERA+, 97ip, 1.7 WAR, 17 starts for Atlanta) would have looked good in our rotation or as trade bait but we let both leave for nothing. Daniel Palka and Niko Goodrum are dinged a lot by dWAR but both have some power and are only 26 and yet we let them both leave for nothing. And while getting Austin for Lynn is nice, it's worth remembering that Lynn cost us a draft pick and the corresponding draft pool amount. Looking at the transactions over the year (including the deadline trades), it looks like the FO sent away more talent than it brought back.
  23. Move Rosario to third (I'm honestly willing to let them try that. I think he could pull it off). Or Kepler to first. Or trade Kepler.
