Can someone say small sample size. Wow 5 games into a season and you already say they need to change how they are doing things. Sure they were 4 very bad offensive games, and as point out just 1 good offensive inning, but lets give them some time before we declare their offense fully busted.

So far our stacked rotation is living up to their potential. Only 1 trip through so far, but all our starters have yet to give a up run.

This is how the CBA decided to do it. If the players wanted it different they could have fought for it. I doubt anyone feels bad for Dobnak getting 4 million to pitch in AAA again. He does not even have to get a new place to live, one benefit of having AAA in St. Paul. He knows how it will go. They will continue to pick up his contract and taxi him between AAA and MLB as arms are needed. If he wanted to be stable he could give up his 4 mil. I doubt he will. For guys in his position that is not making 4 mil they normally get picked up all the time. Pitchers get shifted around the league like passing cards around. Maybe the CBA will get changed, but until then it is the life of a fringe MLB pitcher. They changed the rules to prevent IL manipulation that a pitcher has to be on it for 15 days, position players still only 10. Back when it was 10 so many pitchers had IL stints to prevent being sent down, because you needed to wait so many days to shuttle between minors and majors after you sent them down, but if there was an "injury" a player would not need to stay down in minors for so long. For the players making league min, they may choose to opt out and try to find a team that will keep them at MLB level. If Dobnak wanted to do that, he could. He won't, because he would need to move, give up 4 mil, and most likely deal with the same issue at new team. I do not feel bad for a guy getting paid 4 mil to play at AAA. If he was upset choose to walk.

Twins Minor League Report (3/28): Saints Dominate Opener
Trov replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Slim Reaper very efficient. Pirates have few top hitting prospects at AAA level not too many, but still very good to see him average just over 11 pitches an inning.- 13 replies

The Next Minnesota Twins, 2025 Edition
Trov replied to Steve Lein's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I personally am rooting for Eeles just because he is the true underdog. No one expects anything from him, and he will never get the benefit of the doubt like some prospects but he has shown nothing but an ability to hit. My guess he will get the Kearsey treatment though and sit in minors all year while other guys get called up.- 21 replies

2025 St. Paul Saints Opening Day Roster Preview
Trov replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
This might be the deepest starting rotation on a AAA roster. I do not know much about Adams but the rest all are expected to be MLB starters at some point. It will be fun to follow them and see who gets the first call up. Sometimes it is about timing on who is on the right rest though. The offense has a few big names, but the pitchers are who I will be watching.- 30 replies

Not sure why MLB never did this. It reduces the collisions, stepping on the first base foot/ankle, and reduces the runner interfering with the throw to first from catcher. It only makes sense.

So if I get the all MLB team streaming that will not cover the Twins? I thought they said they are not "blacking out" local games if you had the MLB streaming? My wife was going to sign up anyways to watch her team, not the Twins, but I assumed I would be able to watch the Twins. So to watch the Twins you need to pay an extra fee. Wow, just wow. I will refuse to do so. If I cannot watch most games, whatever. I used to be a watched just about every game fan, but this whole thing is BS. I do not care that the price is like 75 cents a game for the extra fee. This is not what they claimed when they went to streaming. The claim was no blackouts anymore, meaning if you had MLB full team streaming we should be able to watch right. Guess not. I was also told they would find channels on local cable. Well looks like in southern MN Spectrum does not have Twins. I knew this would be a S show, but it is worse than I expected. Opening day, and I will not see any of them I guess.

This sounds like the kind of sale Glen Taylor, owner of the Wolves, would try to facilitate. I will sell you my team, but you must keep me running it and I get to now spend your money and no longer risk mine. Oh, you do not like that deal, too bad those are terms. Sorry fans I just cannot find the right deal for you all.

The Lee injury is concerning. What is even more concerning the number of injuries to our "top" prospects all the time. I get injuries happen, but Lewis, Lee, Miranda, E-Rod, Jenkins, and on and on are guys fielders that keep coming up with long term injuries that cost them several months. Is it the way the team treats injuries, works on preventing them? It is possible they actually shelf guys more than other teams, like when AK was trying to fight through injury before and the team was upset to learn he was not tell them he was injured. It is possible the team puts guys on IL more when they are "hurt" but not "injured". I know every team deals with health issues, but the fact that so many of our top hitters keep getting the well if they can just be healthy line. Pitchers injuries are just to be expected, but many hitters go a full year without an IL stint, unless you play for the Twins it seems.

This was by far the best baseball video game. I have not played too many lately, but even full decade later it was still better than the games being put out. It really sucks that licensing was taken, or given up by EA sports to "The Show". Not a bad series, but MVP was so crazy realistic game ever. It was the first, and in my experience only, game that would have throws very on how it goes to bases, like in real life. Every other game every throw was always dead on target and only if the RNG would have an error would the ball get past. However, in MVP the throw could be slightly off target and not be an error but would allow for the runner to slide away from tags thanks to the throw being slightly off target. Throws to first may be up the line, thrown in the dirt, or cause the first baseman to jump leading to some runners beating the throw out but slower runners would get out. It was by far the best part of the game in terms of "real" baseball. The pitching and hitting mechanics was crazy good too. It is sad it was the last of the MVP series and they never were able to sell their engine for at minimum the fielding mechanics. I do not know if the current versions of The Show are better in the fielding, as I have not played it in about 10 years.

Twins Need to Decenter Royce Lewis From Their Plans
Trov replied to Cody Schoenmann's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Right now Lewis needs to be looked as a great to have if healthy, but have a good plan B in place. It will be hard to trade away guys in the depth area expecting health from Lewis for long term. It also points to no need to sign him to a long term deal because his health is a huge risk and he will want to try to show he can stay healthy and play a full year before looking to sign a long term offer. -
Someone is Going to Be Wrong About Walker Jenkins
Trov replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
A national ranking of 17 is still a very high ranking. Also, if he ends up being a bust for whatever reason, both will be wrong. If he is a superstar, I would not say fangraphs is wrong, just were not as bullish on him. Hopefully he becomes the superstar some expect. -
There's Real Reason to Worry About Jhoan Durán
Trov replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The lack of velo late in spring will be the biggest concern. It is possible he is trying to ramp up slower this year, but if his velo is down that will be a big problem down the road for him.- 30 replies

If Lee plays good defense at 3rd, and is hitting like we hope he will, then no way should Lewis just take over when he comes back. He should look to take over at 2nd or even 1st. Lewis has shown he can be a great hitter, but his defense was not good last year. Also, with his ton of soft tissue leg issues DH or 1st might be a good spot for him at least this year. Sadly, much like Buck, he may just be the what if he could just stay healthy kind of guy. He will have great runs of offense but miss half seasons with injuries every year.

They brought him in to get their own look at him. If they like what they see they can either trade from him, unless Philly will not agree to something, or they can bite the bullet and just deal with him as a mop up guy and maybe have days they cannot use him. I get the more recent years teams love rotating the mop up guy through the minors due to the option years instead of total options. The team will have to decided, is dealing with a few instances of short pen is worth holding him for the year. It is harder for a team that wants to fight for division, but they can do it if they feel his arm is good enough.

The Baseball Tragedy of Matt Canterino
Trov replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
I would never draft a Rice pitcher high. I would never recommend a high school pitcher go to Rice. The coaches there clearly care nothing about the future of their kids and have not problem burning them out over their 3 to 4 years. Rice has been well known for this for years. The issue is Canterino offers such high upside if he could ever stay healthy, even as a possible pen arm. He will continue to get chances as long as he wants to fight for them. One day he may actually stay healthy, but he will continue to bounce around because no one will want to put him on 40 man roster for long. -
As the roster is currently constructed no they both cannot be on it at the MLB level. Lee has the ability to play 3rd and possibly some SS at MLB level but with CC and Lewis both in line up they will take those spots, unless Lewis needs to take 2nd and move Lee to 3rd. Regardless, there is 1 spot of 2nd base. Now, possibly if France crashes and burns they try Julien at 1st but that would also be if Miranda is on a down swing. They could both play on the roster but that is only with injuries or poor 1st base performance really.

This is what Cleveland has done for years, but they do not trade the "prospects" they trade the established soon to be FA guy. It nets a much better return and helps them reload their system. As pointed out you cannot have enough pitching, and they are so volatile on their success, so you need as many as you can to see who truly pans out. Sometimes it takes years to know and sometimes you miss. We traded Gil away when very young and it took him a long time to develop but had rookie of the year. He was injury plagued early in his career, and now injury again. I would fully listen to offers on anyone we have, and if you are blown away then go for it. However, I doubt any deals we would be offered are earth shattering deals.

Every team does this. We have had plenty ourselves we passed on that other teams unlocked. Some even bounce around to several other teams first as well. Look at Brent Rooker he is on his 4th team and finally had a breakout full year with a 5.6 bWAR last year at age 29. Not like he will be some long term super star most likely but it took him a ton of time and several teams to have a great year. We have had some come in ourselves that were cast offs from other teams that developed. No one is saying this guy will pan out but he is a low risk guy. If we would have traded for him 2 years ago everyone on here would have been talking about how great he will be. Maybe he adjusts and figures it out this year at the higher levels. Maybe he will just become a defense guy, or be a career minor league guy.

Trade Retrospective: Evaluating the Mitch Garver Deal
Trov replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Overall it was a win win deal for both sides. Garver gave a short term boost to Texas, and we used what we got to dump Donaldson and sign CC, which led to us signing him long term. This is a hard trade to look at head to head as we really got no direct value from the trade heads up, but it led to value. Without making the deal, unless we could have made one elsewhere, we most likely do not get to dump Donaldson.- 15 replies

How Deferrals REALLY Work with example. Because most sources are useless.
Trov replied to bean5302's topic in Other Baseball
Thanks for the post, it is a bit over my head on the financing side, but the Dodgers have a lot more than Othani's deferred salary. I do have a feeling that if continue to do this eventually they will lack the funds. This is because not every player will be cool with kicking their money down the road and want more upfront. The fact that the money already needs to be set aside does help the Dodgers, but teams have learned not having the cash on had will start to be a problem, ala the Padres. Big market teams like the Dodgers will be able to do this, but the mid and smaller markets will not. -
ESPN Going, Going, Gone (after this season)
Trov replied to The Great Hambino's topic in Other Baseball
This is a huge sign of how much money from broadcasting MLB will be losing over the years. The players are demanding more money but the league is starting to pull in less money. This will lead to another work stoppage sooner than later. -
If he can hit they will find a spot for him. 2nd and 1st are clearly the areas that he could get his best shot, but his bat will be what gets him to majors and stays there. I have a feeling both Julien and Miranda will have shorter leashes. Julien head got in his way last year, and that is harder to fix. Miranda injuries have got in his way last couple of years. When fully healthy he has shown he can carry a team for stretches, but he has not been able to stay fully healthy. Ty France unless he has a hell of a bounce back will be an easy cut for his price tag. I just hope he does not get the Margot treatment and sticks around all year despite being a huge negative on the team.
