    I had to pull up the Miracle box score to confirm that the team stranded 20 runners. The Miracle stranded eight runners. The total number of runners stranded by all the batters was 20. Big difference.

    Sano has been inactive for so long that perhaps the Twins should put him in the minors for an extended period until he proves he is ready to displace a current roster member.

    For me, the most impressive thing was the low number of walks by the starters. No free passes means far fewer runs. Those four starters were impresive.

    The five pitchers scheduled to pitch today could be the Twin's rotation in a couple years. Wow!

    Just as a hitting prospect, I would reverse Kiriloff and Lewis. Lewis might be the #1 overall prospect, but Kiriloff can hit.

    Watching Buxton and Hamilton play similarly hit balls was very interesting. Once Buxton realized he couldn't catch the ball, he kept running, made a futile (half-assed) attempt, turned it into a homerun, and got hurt. Once Hamilton realized he couldn't make the catch, he stopped and positioned himself to play the ball off the wall, and held the hitter to a double. Horrible play versus smart play.

    When Blaine Parker comes in to pitch, put all three catchers behind the plate. No more wild pitches!!!

    Is something wrong with Buxton's legs? Why didn't he steal third so he could score on a fly? Hand appeared to me to have a rather slow delivery.

    Every year, I read all the prospect reports and prediction articles and every year I am disappointed in what I read. Once again this year, I can find no mention of me anywhere. I'm closing in on 72 years old and I'm still waiting for my shot. Of course that's also true for the NHL prospect reports also. Oh well, there's always next year.

    The description Johnson gave of his heel-centric theory (along with Gibson's translation) reminded me of watching Nolan Ryan pitch. His velocity always appeared to me to come from the tremendous leg drive he had and not from his arm speed. He must have been a heel-centric pitcher long before biometrics became a known entity.

    The only thing I can remember from my days in American Legion baseball is the long, boring practices. I did learn how to juggle three baseballs pretty well while standing around waiting for someone to hit a ball. Glad to see things are finally catching up to other sports. If you go to a pre-season hockey practice, you will see 90 minutes of non-stop skating. Maximum use of ice time. And it sure gets them all in shape (as if they needed it).

    It seems to me that the abuse of pitchers is far more common in the college ranks. I often read about some kid throwing 120-140 pitches in a game. My opinion is that it is very rare in the pros.

    Would it be appropriate to ask all the Fangraph debaters to start a new thread and return this thread to the topic of Kepler and his new contract? My opinion (no absolutes, no adement declarations, just the opinion of an old fart) is that it's a good deal for both sides. Securing $35M at age 26 is a damn nice deal for Kepler. With his intellect, he is now financially secure for the rest of his life and can concentrate of becoming the best player he can. The Twins have locked up a player they obviously believe in for seven years for a reasonable amount of money. In a couple years, if he performs well, Kepler will be significantly underpaid. If not, he can become trade material. I like the deal.

    I'm pleased to see that at least one other person recognizes the genius of Vic Power. Watching him play first base was a privilege.

    My employer always called me an abbreviated term of asset. Just ASS. Actually, several employers called me by that term. So glad I'm retired.

    Sign Nelson Cruz and then add a bunch of bullpen arms, as many as possible. Then weed through them all in spring training and keep what looks best. Easy Peasy.

    I also am the youngest. My older brother was also a goalie and when he finished his college career, I inherited his hand-made equipment. I had no choice.

    I also played up to my sophomore year in college without a mask (it became mandatory in 1966) so I'm kind of familiar with the impact of pucks......

    I've played goalie since 1958 (and still play it occasionally) and I was a catcher off and on (but not very recently). The old hockey masks were closer in design to catchers masks and I felt the impact of puck much more than I have with the newer designed helmets that deflect the impact. Having the front of a catchers mask come to a point rather than wide will deflect the impact. It won't prevent getting hit by the bat, but as pointed out above, you can always move further back in the catcher's box.

    I'm not sure what the point is but just let me add that a frozen, vulcanized rubber puck shot at 100 MPH creates a much harder impact than a cork wrapped in yarn and covered with horsehair even if it is thrown 100 MPH.

    All catchers should switch to hockey goalie-type masks. Goalies get hit in the head far more often than baseball catchers and yet the occurrence of a concussion is rare. The design of the goalie helmet deflects the impact of direct hits. The traditional baseball catcher mask does not.

    With the names of players not being tendered now coming out, there are a number of low-cost options for the bullpen now available. If I were the FO, I would move quickly to sign three guys for a total of $10M-$15M a year and possibly a 1B/DH and a 2B for the same total amount. (these numbers are based off the projected arbitration amounts I've seen.) That would leave the Twins with enough payroll space to sign a couple of second tier starting pitchers. And they still have all their prospects. Damn I'm good.
