The Twins have Winston Sawyer hitting .340 and Willians Astudillo hitting .280 in Rochester and Brian Navaretto hitting .270 in Chattanooga. How about giving one of them a shot before looking outside the organization? Despite the Cleveland series, I still think the Twins have no chance at the playoffs this year. Let's hold off on stripping the farm for a while.

Article: Twins Select Royce Lewis First Overall
terrydactyls replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I love these "look backs" at what our experts had to say. Most seem to hate the pick. Oops... And I'm pretty sure most will hate tonight's two picks. I have found that I can claim great wisdom in the future by keeping my mouth shut now. -
I like the idea of a suspensful countdown for your minor league players of the month. But posting the winner's photo at the top of the article does take away some of the suspense (like 100% of it).

Article: MIN 7, CLE 5: EDDIE! EDDIE! EDDIE!
terrydactyls replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Three pages into comments on the game and no one has mentioned Sano's barehand pickup and laser throw to first? Some people criticize Sano's fielding but I have found him to be a very reasonable third baseman. Plays like this one aren't commonplace. -
In my mind, the question is: Who has more value on June 15, 2018, Villalobos or whomever the Twins would have drafted? Villalobos is comparable to a college-age catcher being selected except he already has two years of professional experience. Getting rid of the Hughes salary for just $6M (assuming that money is spent on contract extensions for young Twins or free agents) is an added bonus. But the value of this trade won't be known for several years and that is frustrating.

I would like to see a foot race between Lewis and Buxton, either straight line or around the bases. I see a future outfield of Lewis in left center and Buxton in right center, and either a five-person infield or a roving outfielder playing shallow to cutoff bloop hits. Just kidding but it could be a situational alignment.

When I retired a few years ago, I relocated from Texas (too hot and too crowded) to Maine, in part because New Britain was an easy drive and was going to be loaded with future Twins. And then they moved to Chattanooga. Yuck.

I looked up NSFW on Google and found it means "Not Suitale For Work" and that didn't seem to make sense. So I Googled "Basebal NSFW" and I got a long list of websites ofering pictures and videos of people having sex at stadiums. So I don't think that is what you meant by "Ryan Pressley is NSFW" in your list of positive things. What do you mean? Also, who are these guys named ED that you refer to several times?

Weren't there two outs? If so, there is no internal clock. You are running full speed at the crack of the bat and you don't stop until either the third base holds you up or you cross home plate. That's basic baseball. Or it used to be before metrics dictated that 43% of those balls would be caught. No need for anyone to be thinking. Just run, Forest, run.

Article: Week in Review: Back in the Swing
terrydactyls replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The Twins "owe" Hughes a lot of money for 2018. But that's a sunk cost (unless they can convince another team to take on the contract - and that isn't going to happen) so it should be a non-issue. Is he useful? Keep him. If not, cut him. Not a difficult decision.- 7 replies

As someone who has had both shoulders totally replaced, I can testify to the length and difficulty of the recovery process. I'm four and a half months into my recovery from the most recent surgery. Yesterday, I tried to throw a small pine cone into the woods and came up screaming. Still a long way to go. -

Back in the early '80s, a group of us were sent to St. Louis by DoD to do an audit on a defense contractor. One of the younger members asked me if I knew how the arch was built. So I told her that the engineers first built a giant ring. When that was complete, they dug a giant hole that was as wide than the ring and as far across as the diameter of the ring. And lastly, with the help of giant cranes, the ring was placed upright in the hole and dirt dumped into the hole to stabilize the ring. She was very impressed.

Article: Griffin Jax's Baseball Career Resumes
terrydactyls replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I guess I am the only person interested in how he does on the field and not how much he's paid. -
That pitch would ebe tough for even the best bunters. It was breaking down and in, and almost hit him in the foot. While I can agree that a passed ball or wild pitch might be a strong possibility, I also think a fast ball down the middle (and easy to bunt) was also highly likely. Baseball is somewhat of a guessing game and I guess the Twins just guessed wrong.

It may just be my meory failing me (I'm old, damn it), but it seems to me that the Twis are promoting minor league pitchers much faster this year. Maybe the front office has been reading all the Twins Daily postings about challenging the young guns.

Article: Were We Possibly This Wrong?
terrydactyls replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Yu Darvish is 0-2 with a 5.26 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP. I think if he were on the Twins with those statistics, these columns would be filled with negative comments. It's time to forget about Darvish. It didn't happen and probably never would have happened. Let's deal with reality. I am glad to see Romero given a chance and I hope he's allowed to make several starts before any decisions are made. Curtiss might be the anti-Rodney we need closing games. And I like the idea that Gordon and Gonsalves might also be given an opportunity at the major league level soon.- 78 replies

Last winter, I advocated for NOT signing any new pitchers, promote the best from the minors, let them take their lumps and see what you have. Instead, five new pitchers were signed (I'm not including Kinley) and, with the exception of Reed, they all have been pretty disappointing. Both Rochester and Chattanooga have several pitchers who could replace current Twins' pitchers and probably not do any worse. I my useless opinion, it's time to experiment.

Article: Logan Morrison: Bad or Just Bad Luck?
terrydactyls replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With the shift shown in the article, Morrison should be bunting for doubles. I agree with high heat. Keep bunting until the shift goes away. -
Never second guess a play that worked? That can encourage poor decisions. For example, a player runs throw the third base coach's stop sign and the throw has him beat by 20 feet. The catcher drops the throw and kicks it out of play. I would not only "second guess" that decision, but also provide a short lecture on why the third base coach makes decisions. Just because a bad decision turned out okay doesn't make it a good decision.

Article: SEA 11, MIN 4: That Escalated Quickly
terrydactyls replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Correct me if I'm mistaken but wasn't one preseason concern about Berrios his strikeout to walk ratio of 3:1 last year? It appears that he may have solved that problem with a 13:1 strikeout to walk ratio so far this year.- 22 replies
