Three Silver Linings to Edouard Julien's Demotion
terrydactyls replied to Lou Hennessy's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Does anyone else think there might be a strong correlation between Julien's low strikeout numbers in AAA and the fact that robo-umps are used in half the games? -

When the North Stars first started playing, they lost to the Boston Bruins for about the first 150 games (slight exaggeration) and looked awful doing so. Much like the current Twins-Yankees situation. Then it all changed. Instead of getting pushed around for the entire game like usual, they came of the locker room for the opening faceoff and ran up about 500 minutes of penalties in the first period (slight exaggeration). After that, the rivalry was pretty even. I know the Twins can't duplicate that scenario, but Hrbek/Gant and high and tight behavior sure would be a welcome change. What would I do? I would call up a marginal pitcher from AA for his MLB debut and have him drill in the back as many Yankees in a row that he can before being ejected. Then I would give him a large bonus and send him back to AA.

No one I know ignores the importance of defense at SS, CF & 2B. Good defense at first base allows the rest of the infield to not stress about making a perfect throw. You should never disparage the importance of solid defense at first base. You can argue against the Santana signing because he can't hit, but not the defense.

All those statistics are garbage. The only reason a toss to the pitcher should be attempted is when the first baseman determines he can't beat the runner to the bag. As a former first baseman, you prepare ahead of the pitch by assessing the batter's speed and the depth and distance from the bag at which you are playing. And when the ball is hit, you factor in whether you moving towards or away from the bag, the velocity of the ball, and whether you will have to leave your feet o catch the ball. Simple, eh?

I've lost count but I think this about the tenth article asking the same question. The replies and arguments haven't changed and no one knows what the front office is going to do. As my magic eight ball is telling me - "All will be revealed soon!". And when it does happen, then the same thoughts will be revealed and argued in multiple articles.

The top four Astro batters had 16 official at bats, not 13. Pablo did even better than you implied.

Very interesting comment. AAA is where you learn, but his bat says he stays, but the Bigs are not where you learn? So he stays at third? He is only allowed to DH or pinch hit? He gets sent down to learn? I'm old and I can't remember last year, but did you not want Julien on the field at all? Seems like most people have the opinion that he learned to play 2B while in the "Bigs".

How about taking some time before every game to teach Miranda the proper footwork and positioning? As a former first baseman, I know that the position is more difficult than most people think it is. BUT, Miranda is a professional baseball player and I firmly believe that he can pick up the position to an adequate degree. And having someone who can hit the ball playing at first would significantly upgrade the Twins.

I had to go to the box score to figure out what happened. Vasquez drove in a run with his double and then Julien drove him in with a ground out. The write up still sounds like Vasquez doubled and Julien grounded out but somehow two runs scored,

It took a while but I finally figured out what you meant, It was really unclear in the writeup unless you saw the game.

Its DaShawn Keirsey Jr. Time

seven out of how many that made the jump? And it's interesting that you choose career stats for some, just a single year for others, and three years for another.- 80 replies

Jenkins singled in the first inning, was replaced on the bases by Yasser Mercedes, but played five innings. Does the Complex League allow re-entry?

Urena allowed a pair of runs on a double by Vasquez and a groundout by Julien? I think you skipped a few things. What actually happened?

Beautiful left-on-left swing by E-Rod. Too bad he'll never get to show it in the big leagues. The Twins play statistical baseball, so E-Rod would be on the bench.

"Klein Shoves" What the heck does this even mean? I asked this same question two weeks ago and the only responses were that they didn't know and had the same question. I'm assuming it's a positive comment but it makes no sense whatsoever. Did Klein shove an umpire and is going to get suspended? Or worse yet, Klein was arrested for assault because he shoved someone? If anyone knows the etymology of this curious slang, please enlighten me
