Gardenhire has not been managing the Saints this week do to the birth of a child. The way they are playing, maybe he should have more kids! ? Also - any word on why Steer has not played the past couple of games?

Twins Minor League Report (6/10): A Near Sweep
puckstopper1 replied to Lucas Seehafer PT's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
"Louie Varland put together perhaps his nicest start of the season, striking out nine across six innings of work." Sorry to be pedantic, but this quote in the write-up continues to propagate the fact that some feel pitching is all and only about strikeouts. The strikeouts were only part of the story of Varland's night. IMO this is a more informational recap of how Varland's night went... "Louie Varland put together perhaps his nicest start of the season. He tossed 6 shutout innings allowing only 3 hits. He struck out nine with no walks. Of his 75 pitches, 58 were strikes."- 12 replies

It is a shame that the Wind Surge bats wasted Festa's strong outing - led by Sabato continuing his Sano impersonation (0-4 with 3 K's) Also lover seeing Ryan back on the bump. The Twins need him desperately.

Mario Sanchez is quietly putting together a nice start to his season. While he won't get a lot of love from some on this site because of his low K/9 totals, having a WHIP of 1.0 is one indication he is getting the job done IMO.

Bundy Burning Through His Welcome
puckstopper1 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The article states that Bundy as the first "prominent" free agent signing this season. I guess Ted and I have different definitions of prominent, and maybe the Twins do as well. Was it possible that Bundy could have some success - yes. Was it probably, no. Is it OK that the Twins signed Bundy in hopes that he could have some success - yes. Was it OK that the Twins need / needed to rely on Bundy to have success - NO. That said, when the Twins signed Bundy I commented that I would be pleasantly surprised if he was on the roster at the end of May. Honestly I feel he is only still on the roster due to all the issues with the starting staff. I also fully expect that he will get blasted by the Yankee hitters tonight, and I would be pleasantly surprised if that is not the case. -
Yup - basically a Twins bullpen game today with Bundy as the ineffective opener. Twins will need LOTS to go right to pull off a win tonight.

Me thinks that I would have given hitter of the day to Beckham (2-4, 2 R, 5 RBI, 1 BB HR (game changing Grand Slam) instead of Steer - (2-4, 3 R, RBI, HR). But I guess since he is not a top prospect like Steer is...

Heroes of the Twins First Third
puckstopper1 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Although not the MVP, Sanchez has performed better than expected. He has been healthy/available which is important. His bat is back to career averages and his defense - while he will never be confused for Joe Mauer - is better than advertised.- 20 replies

Heroes of the Twins First Third
puckstopper1 replied to Ted Schwerzler 's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The first 3rd MVP is definitely Arraez. In addition to his bat, although he is no gold glover, he filled a HUGE hole at 1B.- 20 replies

Glad to see Larnach come thru with that big fly. Hopefully he can get hot again after going hitless in the 4 games prior.

I predicted in Spring Training that the Twins would DFA Bundy by the end of May. I was ready to eat crow in April. I have a feeling my prediction would have been pretty close if the Twins did not currently have so many holes in the rotation.

I was worried that one of the "pair of upper-level outfielders exploded at the plate" was going to be Cave. ?

Adding a post that is actually about baseball and not COVID or the vaccine... Are the Saints going to be able to field a team with 4 more players taken from their roster?

Tigers 3, Twins 2: Nick Gordon Show isn't Enough

Ober did not have his best but he was not helped out by his defense either. Polanco should have come up with Barnhart's "hit" in the 5th. That may have changed the complexion of the whole inning. And this Buxton injury crap is getting old. If he is that hurt IL him already. As good as he is, having him play at half speed and needing every third game off is hurting the team right now.

Twins 7, Royals 3: Gray Tops Greinke, Royals

Great to see Larnach swinging well. Five games in 4 days against the Tigers without Winder, Gray and (maybe) Ryan. That will be "interesting".- 18 replies

Archer must have something in his contract that prevents him from pitching 5 innings per start given he has not done that in any of his 8 starts.

The Twins designated RHP Chris Vallimont for assignment in order to add Megill to the 40-man roster. While unfortunate, it is not a surprise given his lack of success over the past 2 seasons.

Even though the A's are a bad team right now, it is really nice to get a win in Oakland given that it has been a house of horrors for the Twins over the past several years. Lets hope that continues against Kaprielian tonight as he pitched well against the Twins last time he faced them. According to the box score the attendance was 3,138 for the game. That is what happens when you have a dreadful team playing a week-night home game while school is still in session at a below average stadium.

Based on the small pitch counts for the Twins relievers, the Indians Guardians must have been swinging early and often in the count. This was a huge benefit to the Twins, especially with Smith and Pagan pitching three days in a row.
