  1. As a catcher he was phenomenal and would / should be strongly considered for the Hall if he had stayed there. But he did not. He also did not play long enough, and he played for a small market team AND did not have any post season success. Sorry - but his is not a Hall of Fame candidate IMO.
  2. Mike - I feel there are certainly players on the Twins roster last season who could be doing more on the base paths including Kepler, Gordon, Correa, Cave etc. It is a combination of both not having the runners AND the coaching philosophy. The Twins rankings in MLB steals per game the past 3 seasons has been: 2020 - Tied for Last; 2021 - 25th; 2022 - Last The point is expecting Martin to be a significant base stealer on the MLB roster is not likely to happen while Rocco is the manager. Having speed can certainly help him defensively.
  3. Which unfortunately is a moot point with the current Twins manager.
  4. It was his right wrist so his catching-hand wrist. This is good from a catching/throwing perspective but worse from a hitting perspective.
  5. Excellent analysis @Harrison Smith. Thanks for pulling this together. What are your expectations for Maeda given his long layoff due to injury?
  6. What?? The massive trade to for A.J. Alexy didn't make the list? Was it because the White Sox claimed him on waivers early this week.... 😆
  7. The Twins are going to need some of the young talent to shine if they are going to take the next steps. This includes Miranda, Kirilloff, Jeffers, Larnach, etc. Having these guys grow into strong contributors will be required to strengthen the core of this team. It starts with health, so here is to a healthy year for all of them!
  8. Really looking forward to what Joe does this season. The Twins need him to be solid and healthy given some of the other question marks in the rotation.
  9. I didn't realize how desperate the Twins are for pitching that they signed Carlos Silva... I hope THIS Carlos is as successful as his elder namesake.
  10. Prediction - Ryan LaMarre stuns the TD world like he did in 2018 and makes the Twins opening day roster as a RH bat... I sure hope I am wrong!
  11. Was hoping - for excitement sake - that Correa/Boras would have said something like "Minnesota was always on the list, but it certainly wasn't at the top." Or - "it sucks that we had to lose out on $100M..." Stuff like that! C4 certainly make the team better, but to win those Championships that he desires is going to take some additional arms...
  12. Correa certainly strengthens the positional lineup. It is good to have guys competing for playing time - assuming they are all healthy - which is a BIG if. The pitching staff still has WAAAAAAAAYYYYY too many holes with the injury history to the starters to the inconsistency of the BP (except Duran). Relying on Lopez to be the main set-up guy (keep in mind he was outstanding for exactly 1/2 of a season and not very good for the other 6 /12 seasons of his big league career) is akin to relying on Pagan in the same role.
  13. Helps the Twins in the short run but I still struggle to believe they are going to be a playoff threat without more strong arms. Also this should keep the Correa family out of the soup line for awhile, which was a concern that CC shared when he opted out of the previous contract with the Twins.
  14. Yes - the AL Central is wide open IF Chicago keeps underperforming and Cleveland does not overperform. So there is hope of a pennant race for the Twins in 2023. There is, however, NO hope that they do anything in the playoffs...
  15. I don't know if can get a player that is a worse fit for what this team needs. I called Sano "big whiff". It looks like Gallo inherits that title now. 40% K/AB last season and it was worse in LA. They could have added a couple of solid BP arms for that $11M they are paying this stiff. Somebody shoot me now please...
  16. I agree with most of this dberthia. However I do not like the new uniforms. The "M" on the cap looks like Miami. Teams who are not championship contenders change their uniforms to generate interest that their play on the field/rink/court does not (see Wild, Timberwolves). As for the product on the field, the Twins need to try and be the "best of the rest" which in my opinion could include contenting for the A.L. Central. Fans SHOULD understand that they will not compete for a World Series title. Given that, how about lowering ticket prices...
  17. True Mike - but we are Twins fans (and likely Minnesota sports fans in general) so we are very accustomed to not having things work out for the best for our teams. ?
  18. Christmas came early in Twinkietown! Yes - the "right" pick needs to be made, but there should be a much better chance of success at #5 vs. #13.
  19. I agree that the team that signs Judge will likely not be able to sign other high end free agents, but I'm not so sure "nothing happens" is the case. If a team needs a SS, they won't really care if Judge has signed. Yes Judge is the top of the market, but several major free agent signings have already happened with Verlander, deGrom, Abreu and now Trea Turner all signing - likely for either more years or more $$ than anticipated.
  20. Very surprised the Brewers did not get more for Renfroe as I felt they were in a position of selling high. This is confirmed by the interest in Haniger. Maybe one of the pitchers the Brewers received pans out, but initially it looks like the Angels did well in this trade.
  21. Agreed. Why would Milwaukee part with Renfroe unless they get a very good return - likely significantly more than Hernandez fetched.
  22. Don't forget this wonderful "injury" that set him back much longer than anticipated. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/26033103/twins-miguel-sano-cutting-foot-celebrating-dominican-title As for his hitting, he had an excellent eye at the plate and few hit the ball harder when he hit it. That is what was so frustrating. A massive amount of potential, which he showed occasionally, but certainly not consistently enough. At a minimum a teams signs him to a minor league contract.
  23. Smeltzer has sure struggled recently in his role in the Saints bullpen... ?
  24. Glad to see that Jeffers caught and Larnach played nearly a full game in the field. It is too late for them to help this season, but it would be good to have them healthy going into next season.
