  1. CH - Those figures you compiled in this post are amazing ! You took a lot of time to get these figures. I really appreciate your extraordinary efforts. Your post is really one of the most amazing posts I have ever read on TD's website.
  2. The catchers' ERA's probably have a lot to do with which pitchers each catcher regularly catches for.
  3. Being an army combat veteran, myself, I do understand your point about his not being a soldier, which I feel is a calling that some have and some don't. And that's OK. And we do carry memories with us as veterans. That's part of the deal. And sometimes we are vilified, like the Vietnam vets were when coming home from Vietnam. That was not fair to them. Sometimes we are just ignored. That's not OK either. That's not part of the deal. Even though Royce Lewis has been paid well, and probably is set for life financially, it doesn't mean we should vilify him when he can't produce the results we fans desire. No one is more frustrated about Lewis's injuries than Royce Lewis. He is trying hard to please us fans and his brother teammates, and to live up to his exceptional potential, which why I quoted from the great African American poet, Langston Hughes, who knew a lot about frustration and deferred dreams. But then I thought about soldiers. My buddies Michael Rymarczuk from Philadelphia and Pvt. Kwan, a South Korean assigned to our company, and Joseph Cayer, from I don't know where, and Mike Reynolds from New York, all had their dreams deferred permanently July 30th, August 5th and September 27th, in 1968 in the Korean DMZ while I was there. That's part of their deal with America. Now I carry them with me everywhere. During my life, I did the best that I could to honor them, by being a good citizen, to help other vets, to remember them, to find their families to tell them their sons were good soldiers and good men, and to tell others about them. And that is why I have posted this non-baseball message. To tell you about them. Remember them.
  4. RpR, I don't understand why you think this post is funny. It is really a post about a sad situation where a young player on our favorite team needs encouragement. I admit my encouragement might be a feeble attempt, but my intent was to personalize Royce Lewis's feelings and to sympathize with him and to encourage him. In our lives we all face times like this and encouragement helps. I just don't want Lewis to stop trying, when he is feeling like he can't keep doing this.
  5. Good defense, few passed balls, strong accurate arm, baseball knowledge of what constitutes pitching success, pitch calling ability, a motivator of pitchers, a team leader. Hit .240 or above with 15 HR's and the ability and inclination to lay down a bunt when I feel it is necessary and to hit behind the runners. Finally, a 3 time batting champion would be nice, but that would fall under your term of "wishful thinking". I can sum up my description of a good catcher in two words: "Joe Mauer". I don't know where they are, but I know where they are not...in Minnesota. Ryan Jeffers is a good catcher, but next year there is no one to catch besides Jeffers and Jeffers alone is not enough. That is my whole point.
  6. Langston Hughes wrote: "What happens to a dream deferred? Does it dry up like a raisin in the sun?....Or does it explode?" Jim Valvano famously said: "Never give up". We're all pulling for Royce Lewis, not for ourselves, not even for the Twins, but because his is a young friend who is struggling with some unfortunate things in his life, which are beyond his control and he is doing he best he can. Keep fighting "Bulldog", keep fighting and never give up. Explode !
  7. Trade any of them or combination of them and bring in two good young catchers. I know young catchers are expensive, but the Twins need one badly. The Twins should be sellers this season. This team is a mess. It started with Royce Lewis's injuries, resulting in Bride's playing way too much, and poor Matt Wallner's inconsistency, and the team's stubborn failure to advance runners ( just bunt the damn runner over in extra innings) and then Pablo's injury, which just sunk this ship. However, I realize that just when I think I am out, they will reel me back in. Gloom, despair and deep, deep misery.
  8. I feel if the pitchers were unhappy with Vasky, the pitchers would not make any comments about him, but would remain silent rather that lying about it. Look at the ERA differences when Jeffers is catching and Vasky is catching. in the article. How do you explain that?
  9. Plus Rod Carew needs to have some bunt lesson sessions with Vasquez and Rocco needs to let him bunt runners over.
  10. I say we should listen to the pitchers who praise Vazquez. The pitchers know more about his contributions to the team than anyone of us.
  11. We Twins fans who write TD articles and who post regularly here on TD didn't just fall off the turnip truck on the way to town this morning. Bunt the damn ball!
  12. What in blue blazes is going on with the Twins?
  13. It was time for the Twins to move on from Acala and to get what they could, which wasn't much. Good luck Jorge. This was a smart move by Boston and a needed move by the Twins and by Jorge.
  14. I'm sorry that this interesting article was necessary. Pablo could have pitched last night, instead of SWR.
  15. It would be an advantage to be a young baseball player and to have Buck and C-4 as mentors. They are special players who have experienced the highs and the lows of playing baseball for a living.
  16. Except for steals, Gaspar's numbers are the best of the 8 players mentioned. Why is he not number 1 on this list?
  17. The pitch which Cal Raleigh golfed for a home run was a good pitch by Paddock. Sure, it was in the middle of the plate, but it was so low that it may have been out of the strike zone.
