With the Twins being a regional team and drawing loyal fans from the Dakotas and Wisconsin and other places far from downtown Minneapolis, there was good reason for Minnesota to have built a domed stadium with a retractable roof. I was guaranteed there would be games played when the Twins played at the Metro Dome and I flew from North Carolina to see the games. In addition, while the fans can bundle up during cold spring and September/October games, playing in really cold weather is not conducive to optimum performances by players, especially pitchers. Playing in warm sunshine is really nice, but getting unusable rain checks, after having traveled great distances by driving or flying, and after having booked hotel rooms, is so uncertain that I am reluctant to take that chance. Many of you reading this may think, "Well my taxes helped pay for beautiful Target Field and I don't want the added expense of a retractable roof, and I don't think it is an inconvenience for me and my family" ...you have a valid point. But I'm just saying that fans who must travel great distances to Twins games, are more likely to spend a thousand, or more, dollars for travel, hotels food and tickets, if they know the games will be played.

Week in Review: Streaking Through Setbacks
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I am sure it is fun going to see the Twins at the opponents' ball parks. In fact several weeks ago I went to Atlanta to see the Twins play and wore my Puckett jersey. And I plead guilty to not having traveled to Minnesota for some games since 1987 and 1988. However I have heard numerous Twins (Lewis, Jeffers, Correa, Mauer, etc.) say during interviews how much they appreciate the Twins fans coming to support them at home games. If I were a Twins' player, I would want to see a full house tonight against our current most hated division rival after the incredible accomplishments of the players the past 2 weeks.- 15 replies

Week in Review: Streaking Through Setbacks
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If the fans don't show up for the Cleveland and Kansas City series this week, it won't be due to the Twins not winning, nor on unenthusiastic play by the players nor on Rocco's moving the players around nor the "cheap" owners nor the weather in the place where the fans choose to live. If the fans don't show up to support this exciting Twins team, then shame on Minnesota.- 15 replies

There is nothing "lame" about any 10 game winning streak. The Twins ultimately control their own destiny.

Is it more fun to watch the Twins play the Orioles, Angels, White Sox, and those of bottom feeders ilk?

On may 9, 2025 I was in Greensboro, NC watching my grandson's team play in the North Carolina High School Baseball Playoffs. I met Luke Napleton from Chicago. He had been playing for a semi-pro team in High Point, NC, called The Rockers. (High Point used to manufacture a lot of furniture and has furniture markets every year.) Frank Viola is the pitching coach for the Rockers. Luke told me he had just been signed by the Twins and was going to Ft. Myers this weekend. He expected to either play at Ft. Myers or at Cedar Rapids. He was with the Rockers only a short time, but was hitting .571 (12 for 21) with 2 doubles and 2 home runs. I told him I was the biggest Twins' fan in North Carolina. He played at the University of Louisville in 2024 and hit .320 with 11 HR.

Please Twins, do not trade Joe Ryan. for prospects. The front office would be living on "Some Day Isle". "Some day I'll get to go to a Twins World Series". "Some day the Twins will win, just not this season." The trio of Lopez, Ryan and Ober is outstanding. The cost is too high for the Twins. It would send a negative message to the players, staff and the fans. It would say: "The current roster, which I, the Front Office, have put together, isn't good enough...therefore sell." How would the players who are going to play today react to that trade? No too well, I imagine. Carpe Diem.

Joe Ryan and the Best Pitch in Twins History

What is it about this franchise that keeps us loyal fans coming back for more of this phenomenon, coined by some as "the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat"? If winning and losing were all that kept our interest, then we all should figure which franchise is the most successful at winning and forsake the Twins and root for the winningest baseball franchise...especially those of us who live too far away to attend many Twins' games. However, for most of us, the Twins are like an extended family. We grew up together. We have memories of a domed stadium, and the loudest cheering ever experienced, of the hope filled fresh green grass of spring training, of walk-off victories and of watching games with announcers who become like friends to watch a game with, and pictures of eternally young players named Carew, Oliva, Pascual, Lopez, Mauer, Puckett, Davidson, Killebrew, Do the good times really outweigh the bad? Is it worth spending hours and hours our limited time here on earth in this manner? This is a question we all must ask. As for me, my answer is a loud, "YES! It is worth it." Being a Minnesota Twins' fan, for me, is a type of unconditional love.

Joe Ryan and the Best Pitch in Twins History
tarheeltwinsfan replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Great article. As the game of the "best pitch" progressed, my wife walked into the room. I immediately showed her that pitch and she was amazed, just as I had been. We have never seen anything like that before. Ryan is a special pitcher. -
Playing the White Sox and the Angels will do wonders for their opponents' hitting, pitching and fielding.

Great article Mathew. Well written and fascinating with a wonderful title. "Concretize"? You never cease to amaze me with your choice of words, of which I am unfamiliar. Thanks for increasing my vocabulary. Do you use these words on a regular basis, or do you search for rare words for your articles, just to edify your readers? Keep these excellent, in-depth articles coming.

I attended this game in person. I did not go to the Dairy Queen after this Twins loss. I went to a bar. They had no Killebrew root beer. If fact they had no root beer. My night would have been completely ruined, except I got to see a Buxton triple and Audra Martin in person.

I was at the Saturday game in Hotlanta. The atmosphere was electric. The streets close to the ball park were closed to traffic and the many bars and restaurants were opened. Alcohol was sold and consumed in the streets. I spoke to every Twins fan I saw. I wore my Minnesota Twins tee shirt which Tony Oliva had autographed in Ft. Myers. We Twins fans were optimistic. The Braves fans were polite and numerous and really into the game. The ball park is beautiful. The light show and fireworks after each of the Twins numerous strike outs added to the excitement. The game was a really fun game with lots of action. I sat 6 rows back beside the Twins dugout. I cheered loudly for the Twins. My two highlights of Saturday's game were watching Buxton run out his triple and seeing Audra Martin in person. One of my friends, who is a Braves fan, here in North Carolina where I live, sent me a text after Sunday's game and thanked me for bringing my Twins to Atlanta to help his Braves". What should I have replied to that text? "Wait til next year." "It's a long season". "Something about his mother" ?
