  1. It's more of a 22 HR and 24 SB pace. He could raise that batting average by hitting to right field more.
  2. I have been pleased with Lewis's improvement in defense at 3B.
  3. Since you went away the days grow long, And soon I'll hear old winter's song. But I miss you most of all my darling, when autumn leaves start to fall.
  4. Early one morning at spring training this year, I remember watching Rod Carew, who was standing behind the batting cage, working with Austin Martin on bunting, over and over. After the bunting session was over, Carew walked over to the fence where I was standing. He was holding a fungo bat. He told me he did not understand why players didn't bunt more. I asked him the secret of bunting and he said: "Listen to the sound of the bat meeting the ball". I hope Carew saw Martin's beautiful bunt last night.
  5. As long as the Twins owners and/or front office have a philosophy of trading the only major league capable hitting and fielding position player at a critical position (in this instance...the most critical position player to the entire pitching staff of 13 players) two years before he is eligible for free agency, with absolutely no reasonable replacement available , then the Twins will be a floundering, losing baseball team.
  6. Where is La Tortuga. He could alternate between catching and relief pitching and pinch running.
  7. I agree Doc, but I must add 3B as a key defensive position also. Lewis does fine there.
  8. Good point. Look at the Green Bay Packers' history.
  9. "Well it's been a quiet week in Lake Wobegon, Minnesota, my hometown, out there on the edge of the prairie." "Sumus quot sumus" is the motto for Lake Wobegon. It means "We are what we are."
  10. It was a legitimate concern of whom to believe. If Joe Ryan said that Sonny wanted to stay in Minneapolis, and if Joe Ryan is to be believed, then there is your answer.
  11. It may be. I was always proud to have been named after them. I don'tknow if it is a southern thing, although my great grandfather (Senior),my grandfather (Junior), and my father ( who was the III) were all from Greensboro, NC. However I was born in Washington, DC. I was born and named while my father was overseas in WWII. I really think my mom and dad named me after my dad because they had realistic doubts that my dad would survive WWII. At any rate, I named my son Marshall and stopped the tradition. But I have a granddaughter named "Charlie", after my dad. I go by "David".
  12. As rare as a Twins' win has been since the All Star break, any Twins' win is huge and important to me.
  13. I did not see the indifference either. Maybe it was because I didn't turn my tv on.
  14. The Buck Truck is delivering the groceries.
  15. Another morning for a long walk on a quiet country road.
  16. I wonder what players Falvey passed on who had "higher upsides", and why? I know he won't tell us, but inquiring minds want to know.
  17. Good article Nick. Your argument is sound for signing Jenkins long term now. The Twins need another North Carolina player to enjoy North Carolina pork BBQ, sweet potato casserole, hushpuppies and some spicy collard greens cooked with bits of salty country ham. Fellow North Carolinians, Ryan Jeffers, Bailey Ober and Zebby Mathews are ready for the feast.
