  1. I'd rather spend half my summers in Minneapolis. However the winter is a different story.
  2. The Twins need 2 starting pitchers more than anything. Kick tires at 3B all you want FO, but get 2 quality starting pitchers first, please. Hopefully both new SP's will produce at high levels, but if only one is a true "Ace", even that moves the Twins closer to a World Series Championship. At least one successful free agent "Ace", plus an improving Berrios and Odorizi. A really good staring 3. And hopefully the second free agent SP will also produce in any of the 2,3 or 4 slots. Imagine Ryu and Wheeler in the Twins lineup? Cuba Gooding said it best in Jerry McGuire when he said: "Show me the money, Jerry. Show me the money". Offer these 2 SP's enough money to get them to sign. Then see how much $ is left for 1B or 3B or SS. Frankly I'd rather move Arraez to 3B and Polanco to 2B and sign Iglesias for defense at SS. I contend these moves would form a really good starting pitching staff and improve fielding at SS and 3B and possibly even 2B. I feel we need better IF defense plus two "number 1 quality pitchers" to be added in order to win the World Series next year. The Twins have the money...now is the time to "show" it.
  3. Good article . Thanks. I hope at least 2 out of these five make a positive difference in the major leagues.
  4. What about all the expenditures which the Elizabethton town spent last year to update its stadium and field and clubhouse facilities? Will MLB reimburse the town for that? Does this proposed elimination allow the Twins to just walk away from the contract with Elizabethton?
  5. I really like Ryu. In fact I think he can be signed for less than the other two. With no loss of a draft pick, I believe.
  6. If I were the Twins, I would do either one of these two proposed trades. It would give the Twins 2 years to win two World Series.
  7. It is no longer true that "He gone !" Instead, "He back...maybe".
  8. Exactly. And that is why the Twins won't sign him. Thank you for your gentle acceptance of my mistake. I did mean Gordan, instead of Goodman. . I had been at work since 7 am when I posted this at 6:30 pm. My day at work was too long. At least I was posting on TD when I was tired and error-prone, instead of drafting answers to my clients' lawsuits.
  9. Great article Tom. I vote no to signing Pineda unless the Twins get a larger discount plus a team option 2nd year. Pineda owes this to the Twins for what they did for him 2 years ago while he was healing and for Pineda letting the team down during a pennant race and for being out 39 games next year. I also do not want to trade Larnarch for Boyd. I like Boyd, but Larnach is going to be a solid hitter for 10 years. I like Jeffers, but he can be replaced in the Twins farm system, plus we have Garver. How about Jeffers and Goodman for Boyd?
  10. Maybe I missed him the 4 times I looked at this proposed 26 man roster,, but where is the 5 million dollar Perez?
  11. When does the minor league season end? The Red Wings last home game in 2020 is September 7, 2020. For most minor league teams the season ends the first week in September. The AAA Championship is mid September. Therefore there will be no minor league games to keep the minor league players "game ready" after the first week in September, unless the team is in a minor league playoff. What happens if a major league starting SS is injured September 15th or 20th? Where does that major league team get a replacement who is "game ready" How do they stay "game ready" with no games being played? How important is it to be "game ready" and what is required after a 2 week layoff?
  12. I would front load Rogers 4 year, 24 million contract...say 9,7, 5 and 3.
  13. Thanks Jeremy for a very interesting series of proposals. My only changes would be to sign Castro for 1 year instead of Vogt, and try very hard to trade Sano for multiple minor leaguers with upside, focusing on young power arms, fast center fielders and/or catchers with power. Move Polanco to 2B. Put Arraez at 3B. The IF defense is poor right now and it starts at SS. Sign Iglesias for 1 year at market value ( 3 million) with a team option for a second year for 2 million. He has no power, but makes contact and does not SO much. He is not spectacular at fielding but is above average and makes few mistakes.Let Gonzo, Garver and Adrianza share 1B. I'm not convinced that Jax needs a 40 man roster spot. And bring up Kirilloff in June.
  14. 1 year, incentive laden contract with a team option for a second year is the best way for the Twins to handle this unknown quantity. The Twins know Gibson's demeanor and his work ethic, but no one, and I do mean no one, can predict with certainty how he will hold up due to his disease, I don't care what "someone" said the Cleveland Clinic ( I assume a doctor who is a specialist in this disease and who has extensively examined Gibson and his health records and based on hundreds of other patients and consultation and medical studies) reported.
  15. Move his locker next to Cruz's locker. Problem solved.
  16. Why not sign coaches to multi year contracts with team buy-outs?
