  1. I gave some thought about the D-Back’s situation, and I believe the only way for them to retain Goldschmidt is to trade Greinke, and maybe even Ketel Marte. And if the Twins were to get involved, I’d rather they pass on Greinke, and offer Gibson and Cave (or Wade) for a SS in Marte, because I think I’d be a good deal for both clubs. The D-Backs get cheap replacements for Corbin and Pollock, along with the financial flexibility to extend Goldschmidt and sign a couple less expensive FA, while the Twins would get a true SS, with potential at the plate, and reason to finally move Polanco to 2nd.
  2. By “expiring assets,” I actually meant Castro, Gibson, Odorizzi, Pineda, and Reed, sorry for the misunderstanding. And while I’m against a over paying for the hell of it, I understand that’s how free agency typically goes, so if we are going to hand out a multi-year contract (2-3 yrs), I’d prefer we hand it to proven bats like Wilson Ramos and Nelson Cruz.
  3. Or how about we actually take a step back for one season (maybe half?) and focus on cleansing the roster of expiring assets, along with aquiring young ML talent. Rather than signing 10 FA not named Manny Machado this offseason, I’d prefer the Twins FO to be out in the trade market targeting any one of these guys: (ARI) (SS/2B) Ketel Marte (BAL) (1B/OF) Trey Mancini (TBR) (RHP) Yonny Chirinos (OAK) (RHP) Frankie Montas (NYY) (LHP) Justus Sheffield (NYY) (RHP) Chance Adams (HOU) (C/OF) Garret Stubbs (PHI) (3B/SS) J.P. Crawford (TBR) (UTL) Joey Wendle
  4. I know Castro’s defense is valuable and that he’s still injured, but I still got to believe some team out there would give up a decent prospect (preferably a catcher) for a guy like Castro. Not only would this free up more playing time for Garver (maybe Astudillo), but this would also free up $8M that could go towards a more realistic FA like Patrick Corbin. Although it seems like I’m talking about “dumping salary,” I’m actually thinking more around the lines of “salary relocation,” where the money that would’ve otherwise gone to Castro ($8M), Pineda ($8M), Odorizzi ($6.3M), Grossman ($2M), Gibson ($4.2M), and Reed ($8.5M), now can go towards players who actually have a future with the team (current players, free agents, trade acquisitions).
  5. “They need a solid plan for improvement,” really? If that means going into the offseason with the idea that we’re only a couple overpriced free agents away from winning the division, then we’re not only screwed in the short term, but also the long term. What this “long suffering fan base” deserves is a FO that won’t waver from their commitment to (re)build a consistent winner. Now I’m not saying we shouldn’t sign a FA, but signing anyone other than Machado, Escobar, or Andrus (if he opts out) to a multi-year deal would be a mistake. Although, when it comes to one year deals, I think Wilson Ramos and Gio Gonzalez would be great fits. And I know many would disagree with me, but I think the FO should utilize the trade market more this offseason because there’s just way more options to choose from, and better talent to be had. For example, if we’re really in need of a better defensive SS, than the Twins could swing a deal with the Phillies to aquire former 1st rounder, J.P. Crawford.
  6. Hopefully the FO learns from this year’s unpredictability and truly commits to a full blown youth movement in 2019. I mean we traded Pressly, might as well trade Gibson, Odorizzi, and Castro too.
  7. All these issues and yet some are still clinging onto the idea that we’re a couple FA away from winning the WC game again, oh wait.....
  8. Besides Manny (and maybe Esco), I’d really prefer we stay away from the free agents and try to utilize the trade market more this offseason. For example, the Twins should take advantage of Cave’s “breakout year” and trade him to the payroll shedding Giants for bullpen lefty Tony Watson.
  9. I know Gordon had a down year, and Lewis might not stick at SS, but if things still go according to plan, what’s gonna happen to Polanco???
  10. If it’s not Machado, then I don’t want any of them... And because I really don’t think anyone wants to see Forsythe next year, the FO might be better off having Gordon and Arraez split time at 2nd in 2019.
  11. We’re not set at 3rd, but we’re not exactly in need.... Sooo I say take advantage of all the Angel’s SP injuries, and offer Gibby straight up for Kevin Maitan.
  12. Honestly, the Buxton decision doesn’t bother me too much, but tell me FO, what makes Johnny Field, Tyler Duffey, and Matt Belilse any more deserving of a roster spot than Kennys Vargas, Nick Gordon, Lamonte Wade, Nick Anderson, Lewis Thorpe, and or Jake Reed???
  13. Since he’s here, we might as well pull “a St. Louis” and just anoint Gimenez as player/manager, cause we all know Molitor, let alone Mauer, aren’t capable of leading the Twins.
  14. I mean it’s not like he’s jumping from Single A to the majors like Juan Soto.
  15. If the FO is keeping Kirilloff in Fort Myers for the purpose of getting some playoff experience, fine, but if that’s the case then it’s only fair to have AK skip AA, because he’s definitely earned that type of promotion.
  16. Wonder who the PTBNL could be? Assuming we go that route.
  17. Playoff push or not, if we’re not gonna promote Kirilloff and Lewis (maybe Graterol) then we might as well have them begin 2019 in AAA.
  18. Wouldn’t hurt to see Buxton leading off, although he’s probably better off batting 9th. How bout Lewis???
  19. Yeah, my bad, the Lynn/Austin deal probably would’ve been the better example. Then again, I could see a “rejuvenated” Sano bringing back an Archer-like return.
  20. “Rebuild” is such a vague and loosely used term, but yes, I do agree to the idea that we shouldn’t rebuild. Although that doesn’t mean we should be against “(re)building towards the immediate future.” The best example I can think of is the Chris Archer deal.
  21. Trust me, I believe in Gibby’s newfound success just as much as you do, but overpaying to keep him around past 2020 would be a huge and very unnecessary risk. Like it or not, it’s probably for the best that we sell high on someone who”ll likely chase the $$$, and leave MN (via free agency) anyways.
  22. Personally, I could care less if we dealt Gibby and Odorizzi in the offseason, but the reason I ask is because it wouldn’t be all that suprising to see it happen.
  23. Depth is nice, and I really like ours, but is it enough to withstand a Gibson and Odorizzi trade in the offseason???
  24. Atlanta could use an upgrade over utility infielder Ryan Flaherty as well.
  25. Since we can’t really on depend on Reed and Hildy to be anything more than a 6th or 7th inning guy, I honestly hope we just sign Adam Ottavino and David Phelps to carry the bullpen next year.
