  1. IMO, Cody Allen should be a given, but other relievers we should be thinking about are Tony Sipp, Blake Parker, David Phelps, Oliver Perez, Sergio Romo, and Dan Jennings
  2. I really doubt Farhan Zaidi’s mission is to piss off the entire Giants fan base by trading Bumgarner in his first offseason with the team, also I’m pretty sure the Twins are on Grienke’s no-trade list. The only starters I can think of as being realistic trade targets for the Twins are Julio Teheran, Rich Hill, Mike Minor, Dylan Bundy, and Mike Leake, with Bundy being the only “potential ace.” Meaning, the we’re probably better off signing Keuchel if a “potential ace” is what we’re looking for. And even though it’s not exactly a pressing need, it’d be nice if we could at least have one starter (preferably left handed), besides Berrios, as a lock for the 2019 rotation. IMO, Gio Gonzalez would be great fit.
  3. I think we’re done adding position players, but when it comes to pitchers, I think 2yr deals for both Cody Allen and Gio Gonzalez seem very realistic.
  4. Sooo this means we’re signing Keuchel right??
  5. Really hoping the FO decides to buy low on Cody Allen because the guy’s been one of the most reliable relievers in all of baseball for a 5 year period and just had a down year in 2018 and will likely return back to his normal self in 2019.
  6. I think this all depends on where the FO thinks Rooker is at with his development. If the FO feels he’s getting close to being able to contribute at the ML level then I’m sure they’ll trade Austin, if not, then your probably right. And yes, they all may be the same type of hitter, but you gotta admit Rooker’s ability to play both 1B and the OF (hopefully at a competent level) is something worthy of a roster spot, “if” he can hit.
  7. Call me insane, but I think I’d rather have Wade start the season as our 4th outfielder than Cave. Also, don’t sell Rooker and Gordon short, ‘if’ they perform I’m sure the FO will find room for them on the 25-man before the rosters expand (at some point), especially Thorpe.
  8. Would plate discipline be considered a tool?? If so, than LaMonte Wade and Ryan Costello belong in that category right next to Kirilloff, Lewis, Larnach, Baddoo, and Arraez.
  9. No way do the Twins sign Moose, nor would he want to come here to be a backup. IMO, signing Lowrie to play 2B/3B seems more likely, but that’s not gonna happen either (since we got Schoop). As a team that now hopes to contend in 2019, the only way for the FO to make the Cruz and Schoop signings matter is if they go out and get a proven closer like Cody Allen, because without that kind of stability in the bullpen, Cleveland (maybe Chicago???) still wins the AL Central. It’s as simple as this, if the Twins FO really want to be the “favorites” to win the division, they’re gonna need to beef up that bullpen. Despite feeling (overly) confident about the decent amount of pitching depth they’ve built up, I already know that’s not gonna be enough, the reality is that we need more proven arms like Allen, Blake Parker, Tony Watson, Kirby Yates, Adam Conley, etc in the bullpen; meaning we’re either gonna have to spend more, trade from areas of depth (Austin, Cave, De Jong, Gonsalves, Littel, etc), or a little bit of both.
  10. I agree, the FO should take on Mark Melancon’s (or Martin Prado’s) bad contract as a way of acquiring Tony Watson (Adam Conley).
  11. Perhaps naming Granite was a stretch, but I gotta believe a package of Austin, Blankenhorn, and Littell could at least bring back something of value.
  12. If we’re trading Austin, I’d prefer it if we packaged him, Granite, and Littell for a quality LH reliever.
  13. Since Cruz is on board now, who becomes trade bait?? Because we still need pitching and we definitely could use a backup for Sano at 3rd.
  14. I’m worried about the future at catcher too, Garver’s concussion could prove to be a issue someday soon, Astudillo is somewhat of an unknown, Jeffers may not stick behind the plate in the long run, and Rortvedt has yet to show that he’s a legit prospect. Meaning the FO will likely have to spend another high draft pick on another catcher next June, and or, trade for one, although I doubt it’ll be Realmuto. One guy I’ve given some thought about is the Astros top catching prospect (AAA), Garrett Stubbs, who for catcher is well above average in terms of athleticism, good defensively, has a simple left handed swing, and gets on base (.382 OBP in 2018). At 5'10 and 175 lbs, Stubb’s only “problem” has been his durability, although in a game that values versatility much more now, that may work to his benefit as he may be capable of playing the outfield (8 innings in RF last season), not to mention forming a platoon with Garver.
  15. Gotta love the club option, gives us the flexibility to choose whether or not we’re ready to hand significant roles to Rooker and Kirilloff in 2020. And who knows?? Maybe they all can coexist on the same 25-man roster in 2020.
  16. I’d rather we sign Keuchel, another Boras client, who actually has a (solid) track record in the MLB (unlike Kikuchi), plus WS experience (and a ring to show for it). Besides, building a relationship (sucking up) with Mr. Boras wouldn’t be such a bad thing considering Lewis and Kirilloff are represented by him as well, could really help us out in the long term when the time comes for extensions for those two. Unfortunately, the FO is deciding to be cheap this offseason, despite all the quality options available, so the likelihood of us signing either are extremely low.
  17. I wouldn’t get your hopes up about Duran’s improvements, but one thing I would be excited about if he starts moving prospect lists, is the possibility that he, along with other expendable prospects, could be moved for a “frontline(ish) starter” next offseason, or maybe as soon as next year’s trade deadline.
  18. Instead of extending any of Gibson, Odorizzi, and Pineda, why not take advantage of Dallas Keuchel’s slow market?? Because it’s starting to seem like he’s not gonna get the frontline starter money he and Boras are asking for. Besides, with Lewis and Kirilloff being clients of Mr. Boras, maybe we should start building a relationship (sucking up) with the guy.
  19. I know Rooker and Diaz are considered the best 1B in the system, but don’t count out Ryan Costello. With good patience at the plate and decent pop, I think he’s gonna make the M’s really regret trading him very soon.
  20. Instead of extending Gibby, why not trade him this offseason while his value is at it’s absolute peak (coming off good year and has one full year of controllability)? He may have turned the corner and is now entering his “prime,” but I doubt he’ll match his “breakout” 2018 again, so what’s the point of over paying for someone who won’t be worth his contract 2-3 years when we can just put that money towards extensions for cornerstone players like Kepler, Rosario, Buxton, Berrios, and Sano. If Gibby really has turned the corner, should’nt he be able to bring back 2-3 quality prospects? Especially in a league that’s so deprived of starting pitching nowadays. The reality is that Gibby’s more valuable to the Twins as a trade candidate rather than an extension candidate, while the opposite applies to Odorizzi. Still, if the opportunity arises where Odorizzi can be traded for a decent return, there shouldn’t be any hesitation. Still, we’re gonna need replacement(s) for Gibson, Odorizzi, and Pineda in 2020 and beyond to bring stability to the rotation, whether that’s Gio Gonzalez, Jhoulys Chacin, Julio Teheran (my favorite), or Sonny Gray I don’t care, I just don’t wanna put the weight of the world on our young starter’s shoulders when we should be competing for the division.
  21. This might not matter as we’re possibly losing all of Gibson, Pineda, and (maybe) Odorizzi to free agency next year, which means we’re gonna need someone, because I don’t like the idea of placing all of the pressure on Berrios, Romero, Graterol, Thorpe, Stewart, Alcala, Mejia in 2020. If you’re skeptical of Odorizzi being able to turn things around, then perhaps signing Julio Teheran next offseason makes more sense, he’s one year younger, had better 2018, and has a better overall track record.
  22. While I’d like to think Odorizzi is capable of turning the corner, I’m just not sure, does it make sense to extend Odorizzi for anything more than he’s making right now per year ($9.4M)? Or are we better off signing Julio Teheran next offseason (same age, better track record)?
  23. Never thought of this as an option, but now I’m intrigued.
  24. Since Allen’s 2018 season had him fall out of favor as Cleveland’s closer, I don’t see him going anywhere where he wouldn’t have a chance to close out games, which is why the Twins need to jump on him now. Until 2018, Allen has been one of the most consistent relievers in the game, why not give him a chance to prove that last season was an anomaly, and that he still can be an effective closer. And besides, even if he isn’t what he used to be, he still could be useful in a 7-8th inning role. Regardless of whether we sign Allen, or not, I’d still like to see the FO pursue other vets like Soria and Parker. Or maybe guys who’re coming off an injury like Phelps (TJ) and Herrera (torn Lisfranc).
  25. Yet if 2019 is similar to 2018, and there’s enough interest around the league (which is what I’d expect), I wouldn’t be surprised, nor upset, if all three of Gibson, Pineda, and Odorizzi are dealt by next years trade deadline (as long as the returns are good). Which is why signing Gonzalez may make sense, if not, we can always sign either Julio Teheran, Jhoulys Chacin, Zack Wheeler, Sonny Gray, or Gerrit Cole (highly unlikely) next offseason.
