  1. I know this about Kimbrel, but the Phillies just DFAd bullpen lefty James Pazos. Perhaps he’s worth look?? I’m guessing he’d be just as effective as Mejia’s been.
  2. Is it too early for me to say the Marwin signing was a mistake, or is the timing just right?? Because with how Astudillo’s been playing and Sano’s upcoming return, I really don’t see the purpose of having Marwin on the team, other than being waste of $21M that could’ve been spent on one year of Keuchel, or any one of Kelly, Herrera, Robertson, Familia, Britton, or Allen this offseason. Hopefully he proves me wrong, although I really doubt he’ll get enough at-bats to do so, unless someone goes down. Even if that were to happen (again), will he perform at the level we paid him to, or like he is right now, an overpaid Adrianza??
  3. While I wish we would, I can at least understand why we won’t sign Kimbrel at the price he’s asking for. However, if we don’t sign Keuchel, who’s said he’s willing to take a 1 year deal, than we should send just Mejia down to AAA where he and Romero can get stretched out because I’m really starting to doubt the quality of our rotation. I never trusted Perez as a starter in the first place, since I believe he’s better suited for the pen, but Odorizzi and Gibson?? If we can’t rely on those two, beating Cleveland seems highly unlikely, especially when Lindor gets back. If the FO wants to improve the pen without having to sign Kimbrel, than I recommend that we either sign Madson, make a trade for an established reliever (Givens, Bradley, Conley, etc), or even speed up the timeline for some of our system’s promising bullpen arms like Moran, Quezada, Smeltzer, Stashak, Colina, and maybe even Alcala. However, the season’s young, so for the time being shuttling pitchers back and forth from AAA should be enough to tread water until Reed and Magill return, although we shouldn’t just expect that they’ll be effective, which is why we need to start making some adjustments if we are to still consider ourselves “contenders.” Then again, maybe I’m just overreacting and Jake Reed is the answer...
  4. To be fair, Bundy still has potential, but we already have enough RH starters, if anything, I’d rather go after his teammate Givens.
  5. With the way Garver and Astudillo have been playing, would it be reasonable for the Twins to at least look into trading Castro??
  6. Beyond Marwin, in the high minors we got Wade, Andreoli, Rooker, Raley, Kerrigan, Davis, Wiel, and potentially Kirilloff. IMO I believe that should be enough to deal with the potential loss of Cave. Of course, the most important part of all this, is that we’d have to actually get something of value for Cave. Trading him for a prospect doesn’t seem like the best use of a trade chip like him, so I’m in favor of pairing him with one of our better prospects for a notable relief arm like Archie Bradley of the D-Backs, who already lost Souza for the year.
  7. I’m guessing Cave and Adrianza are next, at some point this season.
  8. I like Parker, but he’s not the type of guy I want in a high leverage situation. Shoulda saved Rogers (or May) for the 9th...
  9. Nice to see Harper, Cave, Adrianza, Astudillo, and Austin rewarded for their strong spring performances. However, a big question remains, who survives the first month?? IMO, Astudillo is the only guarantee, and if that’s the case then what happens to the rest when Sano returns, Wade outgrows AAA, (if) Reed gets his sh*t together, and Romero gets accustomed to pitching out of the pen, etc?? Because I’m pretty sure other teams would love to have Austin’s power, Adrianza’s versatility, Harper’s (and Magill’s) breaking stuff, and Cave’s everyday potential. While this is a good problem to have, I just hope that we don’t let these assets waste away in minors, or walk for nothing. I mean, M. Reed netted us the 13th fastest player in the MLB last year, so I have to imagine these guys could possibly bring back something of reasonable value, whether that be raw lower level prospects, or trading up for a league average bullpen arm.
  10. Let’s just end this experiment already. Romero is a starter, he just needs more time. Even more so, Madson and Kimbrel are still on the market. We could easily improve our bullpen, but we choose not to. If money was really a problem, then why did we sign Marwin when we could’ve shored up our biggest need with a HoF caliber player?
  11. The save didn’t ruin relief pitching, the idea that a closer must pitch one inning did.
  12. I’d move Buxton up to 8th just so he never has to run behind Castro.
  13. Is Fernando Romero a lock, or are we really gonna send him him down in favor of Hildenberger and Magill?? Also, what are the chances of us making a trade or signing another relief arm?? I mean, Madison is still a free agent, and I’d imagine that Mychal Givens is available as well.
  14. Regardless of whether Reed goes on the IL, or not, Romero should make the team.
  15. Apparently, the Nats and Braves are no longer interested in Kimbrel. I guess that means it’s just down to us and the Phillies (as far as we know).
  16. I’m not very high on Gonsalves either, but if he’s looking good by midseason, I’d definitely look into dealing him (plus another B prospect) to the Rangers for Jose Leclerc; a pretty good Kimbrel alternative.
  17. While Reed makes the most sense for our questionable bullpen, I’m really curious to see if Wade could possibly unseat Cave as our 4th outfielder, definitely has a better skill set for that type of role (better defense and patience, but less power).
  18. With Marwin now on board, I highly doubt we land Kimbrel as well (not impossible tho). Meaning, the most realistic improvements we can make to the bullpen are probably signing 1-2 of Madson/Norris/Warren/Sipp. Who’d you sign? Because I wouldn’t bet on Reed or Hildy bouncing back from last season’s struggles. If we lose Magill in the process, so be it. Besides, we have plenty of depth anyways; in the form of Littell, Stewart, Vasquez, Moya, De Jong, Stashak, J. Reed., Alcala, etc. If not Kimbrel, this is what I hope to see: CL- Bud Norris (short leash tho) Taylor Rogers Fernando Romero Addison Reed Adam Warren Adalberto Mejia Blake Parker Trevor May
  19. Rocco better find a way to get him consistent ABs.
  20. I know he probably doesn’t deserve a guaranteed roster spot, but signing Madson to an extremely cheap ML deal ($1-2M) could possibly pay huge dividends for us in 2019 (otherwise he might retire); ML veteran, still throws hard, WS experience, and is 1 year removed for an excellent season. If not, I’d definitely try and see if we could at least land one of Norris, or (more preferably) Warren, on a minor league deal (like Vincent).
  21. I wonder if Jose Leclerc is available?? I mean, it’s not like the Rangers are contending anytime soon. Whichever route we take, one thing is for sure. We cannot depend on Reed or Hildy bouncing back from last season.
  22. No offense or anything, but Astudillo would make this decision a whole lot easier if he were in better shape.
