I know we’ve played extremely well up to this point, but I’m really curious to see how we fare against Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland, not only because they also have pretty good teams, but because after this week we should finally have an idea of how urgent our pitching situation really is, and what kind of arm(s) we should be pursuing on the trade market (middle relief/bullpen ace/starter).

Honestly, I wouldn’t be suprised if the FO office trades Cron and all of Schoop/Gibson/Pineda/Castro walk next offseason (keeping only Cruz and Gonzalez). While this could very well have it’s drawbacks, having a rotation of Berrios, Graterol, Odorizzi, Perez, and possibly Stroman definitely wouldn’t be one of them. However, when it comes to the lineup, having Arraez, Marwin, etc hold down the fort at 1B/2B until Lewis and Kirilloff arrive does seem pretty risky to me, especially if we still plan on competing for a WS in 2020. Then again, depending on where Lewis and Kirilloff end their 2019 seasons (hopefully Rochester, maybe Target Field for AK) and how well they perform, we may not even have to worry about that, or at least not for very long. And since it seems like Buxton, Sano, Polanco, Kepler, Odorizzi, Perez, and Garver are all conveniently breaking out at the same time after years of scuffling, we may not even need all our veterans next year.

Perhaps I’m wrong, but I gotta believe it’s possible for us to acquire all of Givens, Doolittle, and Stroman (all of which are more than just unspectacular middle relievers) without having to surrender any of Lewis, Kirilloff, Graterol, Balazovic, Larnach, Duran, Miranda, or Javier. Yeah, our system’s depth may take a significant hit because of our reluctancy, but at least the quality will remain and will still be available for us to utilize during the offseason and next season’s deadline. However, while I realize that not all top prospects pan out, I also have a really good feeling about Lewis, Kirilloff, and Graterol, which why I’d only consider these 3 as absolutely untouchable. Perhaps this is blind faith, but I’m willing to die on this hill.

Baddoo and Celestino are the equivalent to what Daz Cameron was for the Astros, same goes for Franklin Perez who’s comparable to Enlow and Duran, and Rortvedt is pretty much Jake Rogers without the power (yet), but since Jeffers would be available too, teams got 2 quality options to choose from. So yeah, maybe you got me on Duran, but other than that, there’s no reason to give up any of our other elite prospects just yet.

I get what you mean, but cmon now, you don’t think any of Jeffers, Baddoo, Gordon, Rortvedt, Severino, Gonsalves, Thorpe, Blankenhorn, Alcala, Celestino, Enlow, Arraez, Cave, and Rooker could bring back anything that would substantially improve this team?? Our window pretty wide open, which means I’d definitely pursue better quality than one start from Jaime Garcia, but I’d also like to hold on to some of our top 10, which would give us the flexibility to improve our team next offseason and next season’s deadline. I mean, despite being WS contenders for the past 2 seasons, the Astros have still managed to hold onto Kyle Tucker, Forrest Whitley, J.B. Bukaukas, Yordan Alvarez, and Corbin Martin, why can’t we, at the very least, hold onto Lewis, Kirilloff, Graterol, Balazovic, Larnach, and Duran for now?

As long as we’re not going after Scherzer or Syndergard, the FO should be able to reasonably improve the team without giving up any of Lewis, Kirilloff, Graterol, Balazovic, Larnach, Miranda, Duran, and Javier; all of which I’d view as untouchables (not all for the same reasons though) Look, I get that this Twins team is shaping up to be a historical one, but there’s no doubt in my mind that this is just the beginning. Which is why I wouldn’t put all my eggs in the 2019 season basket by pursuing an ace who’d likely cost us Lewis, Balazovic, Duran, and Jeffers; potentially killing the possibility of any long term success. Personally, the most expensive pitcher I’d target would be Stroman, not only because I believe he’d be a perfect addition to this team in more ways than just his performance, but because he also wouldn’t put a major dent in our farm system either.

I willing to bet there’s more to Baldelli than what we’ve seen publicly. Yeah, the Earl Weaver’s of the world are great, but nothing’s more effective and commanding than a “soft” and mild mannered leader who’s always on the verge of biting your head off if you step out of line. I mean, imagine Baldelli cussing you out, kinda scary right? Then again, maybe he is exactly who we think he is, which wouldn’t be the worst thing either, especially since Cruz and Shelton are in the dugout as well.

With Polanco’s presence, Arraez’s emergence, and Lewis (and Javier) on the rise, I’m finding it really hard to believe that Gordon won’t be dealt this summer, especially if he keeps getting 2 hits a game. If Gordon is truly hitting his stride, he could be extremely valuable to us as in our pursuit for a better bullpen (or rotation). Same could be said of Gonsalves too, as he trys to rebuild his fallen stock as well (lowering his walk rate), then perhaps we could have another valuable trade chip in our hands. Also, it’s nice to see that Romero had a good outing, hopefully he’ll be back with the team before we take on the Milwaukee, Tampa Bay, and Cleveland next week, we could really use him (Hildy too).

Why I'm Out On Craig Kimbrel
ChrisKnutson commented on Tom Froemming's blog entry in Get to know 'em
At the rate they’re going at, the Nats have no reason to keep any of their adequate bullpen arms, especially when there’s so many teams that could use them right now. If anything, it would be a capital mess for them to keep them, especially Doolittle. -
Why I'm Out On Craig Kimbrel

Why not sign Kimbrel and acquire Doolittle?? -
Everytime Romero’s pitched for the Twins this year, it seems as though he just can’t find the strike zone, and I have a feeling that it’s because of his max effort delivery. It just doesn’t look natural as it should be. Honestly, It’s really a shame to see someone so talented struggle like this in the minors. Which is why I think it’s time for the FO to finally concede on this experiment and have him start again. It’s what he’s done his entire career, and has seen plenty of success in doing so, not just in the minors, but as recently as last season in the majors. Since the bullpen has been doing a good enough job so far, I’d say now’s a pretty good time to get him stretched out in Stewart’s rotation spot.

Surveying the 2018/19 Free Agent Relievers at the Quarter Pole
ChrisKnutson commented on diehardtwinsfan's blog entry in diehardtwinsfan's Blog
I know he hasn’t been overly successful for the Halos, but I still wish we would’ve signed Cody Allen. I mean, if Wes can turn Perez into our #3 starter, I’m pretty sure he could’ve gotten through to Allen as well. -
Twins Searching the Cupboard for Arms
ChrisKnutson commented on Ted Schwerzler 's blog entry in Off The Baggy
Wouldn’t be against us dipping into AA for Cody Stashak, the man’s been absolutely dominant so far, why not see what he can do? If not, Kohl Stewart seems like the safest bet. Then again, we are playing the M’s next, so perhaps Addison Reed gets one last shot.- 6 comments

ChrisKnutson replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Demote Hildy for sure, but for who? I’d give Romero one more shot before stretching him out and end this experiment, but if not him, than any of Stashak, Stewart, or Alcala would do just fine for now. More importantly, the FO needs to starting working on acquiring either Givens or Doolittle before things get out of hand.- 75 replies

If we really pefer having at least one guy with a unique delivery, why not go get Givens?? His side arm slot consistently hits +94 mph with obviously much better stuff than what Hildy has to offer. Not exactly saying dump Hildy, but let’s be honest, he doesn’t belong in 9th... Also, I’m pretty sure May is capable of pitching more than 1 or 2 outs per game. I mean, he used to be a starter, even threw a couple complete games in the minors, I’m pretty sure he can get through 2 innings once in while.

Can we please promote Graterol already? Dude’s not only wasting time, but arm mileage, hanging around Pensacola.

I think the D-backs could be another possible destination for Cave as well (Souza’s season ending injury)(OF prospects long ways away). While I’d definitely prefer any of the Giants veteran bullpen arms, I don’t think a return of Jimmie Sherfy and Emilio Vargas would be all that bad.

Step aside Yanks, it’s not the 90’s anymore and I don’t care if your team is loaded with (injured) superstars, the Twins dynasty is here. In fact, it’s only just begun, we got Lewis, Graterol, Kirillloff, and Larnach on the way as well, so don’t get comfortable. -

If not Pazos, perhaps we could pair up the Giants for another trade, because apparently they’re “pursuing a trade for an outfielder.” Why not package Cave with 1-2 prospects for either Tony Watson or Sam Dyson??
