  1. 100% agree, but in the meantime, ‘if’ he can prove that he can handle ML pitching, I wouldn’t mind seeing Gordon at 3rd. May not be ideal, but I’d find it hard to complain about Matt Duffy-like production.
  2. Besides the lack of depth at 3B, the system is otherwise looking really good, but with Sano’s health issues being the way they are, I gotta believe the organization is thinking about drafting a college 3B in the early rounds of next year’s draft.
  3. If the FO were to make a trade, it’s more likely that they’d be trading for a 1st or 3rd basemen as insurance for Sano/Austin. One lefty bat that could pair well with Austin is Cleveland 1B Yonder Alonso, although I’m unsure if either team would even think about crossing division lines.
  4. Love the Iglesias trade, but besides that, I really don’t see us be huge players for any of Corbin/Donaldson/Gonzalez. Yeah they’d help, a lot actually (especially Gonzalez), but their markets are just too big for them to even consider us. Don’t get me wrong, I like the idea of spending even more this offseason than last, especially with a FA class like this, but we still need to be somewhat conscious about making cost effective signings; which means if Gonzalez or Donaldson asks for something unreasonable like 5yr/$80M let some other team have him. And don’t get me started on Corbin, we all know he’s going to New York. While I think MLBTR got the Gonzalez prediction wrong, I do think there’s a very good chance Nelson Cruz ends up in MN, and if Oakland doesn’t resign Lowrie, we could be the front runners for him as well. Lastly, when it comes to the bullpen, I don’t think we can go wrong this offseason, unless we sign no one, which is why the Twins should do what the Rockies did last offseason and sign a trio of proven bullpen arms (Allen/Herrera/Kelly).
  5. This ain’t it my man, because JUST signing Descalso and Adams may end us up with the same, if not worse, record than last season. If not Cruz and Lowrie, than the FO needs to atleast improve the bullpen, and signing Joe Kelly to close for us would be an excellent first move.
  6. If I’m being honest, I believe that by the time Sano actually has his “Yasiel Moment,” he’ll already be in another uniform.
  7. The only way we’re trading Sano is if we’re trading for an upgrade, not prospects, so we really shouldn’t worry about getting burned. Now let’s see if we can turn Miguel Sano (and a couple prospects) into J.T. Realmuto, Matt Carpenter, or Anthony Rendon.
  8. Not interested in trading prospects, or any of our core players just yet, especially with the large amount of quality players available via free agency. Screw signing Machado or Harper, if there’s any offseason to go crazy on FA signings, it’s this one. Here’s to hoping that the FO surprises us and signs Lowrie, Cruz, Freese, Herrera, Kelly, and Allen.
  9. Lowrie had a career year, so I really doubt he’d accept a 1 year contract unless the market forces him to. Regardless of price, I really hope the FO pushes hard for Lowrie because this team could really use his versatility with all the uncertainty surrounding the infield at the moment.
  10. Herrera would be alright too, but his elbow issues and freak injury last year kinda scare me. Also, don’t be surprised if the A’s decide to move on from Lowrie, because it’s been stated that they’re very high on Franklin Barreto and Jorge Mateo; along with Chad Pinder. Oakland, a small market team, is more likely to pursue pitching this offseason than try to bring back Lowrie (even on a discount) when they have competent internal replacements; something we don’t have.
  11. With Garver and Castro on the roster right now I think we could do without 4 years of Grandal, especially if either Jeffers or Rortvedt amount to anything. Other than that, the list looks alright, but if I were the FO, these are the main guys I’d be targeting. IF- Jed Lowrie 3yr/$33M DH- Nelson Cruz 2yr/$36M UTL- Josh Harrison 1yr/$6M RF- Adam Jones 2yr/$28M RHP- Cody Allen 1yr/$10M RHP- Joe Kelly 2yr/$18M
  12. Let’s say instead of McCutchen or Pollock, the FO signs Adam Jones, how would you feel about that??
  13. Why wouldn’t you want his bat in the lineup for 2 years?? Yeah he might regress a bit (he might not, who knows), but it’s not ‘just’ his bat that would bring value to MN, as he’s also a good clubhouse presence for the Twin’s young Latin players and also happens to be a couple years older than our manager. If I were the FO, the expectation would be for Cruz to be what Carlos Beltran was for the Astros in 2017, only with more production. I can understand the hesitation with Cruz, so if it’s not him, then I’d still be ok with the FO bringing in Baldelli’s former Red Sox teammate Jed Lowrie, who’d be a good no. 2 hitter who’s also capable of playing 2nd, SS and 3rd.
  14. Now let’s go sign his former Red Sox teammate Jed Lowrie.
  15. You’re probably right, but I feel free agency could go either way for Allen, so if the opportunity presents itself we definitely should bring him to MN. Regardless, Joe Kelly should be our top priority when it comes to the relief pitching FA market.
  16. Great analysis of the FA market, but when it comes to the relief pitching market, I’d rather take a chance on Cody Allen having a bounce back year, and Joe Kelly having a breakout year, rather than signing Familia, Britton, or even Herrera (his past elbow issues scare me).
  17. I know I may be speaking too soon, but what if New York decides to let Didi Gregorius walk next offseason?? Seems like a lot more of a realistic FA for the Twins compared to signing Machado (who could be the reason why Didi leaves NY).
  18. While I agree that the Twins OF isn’t exactly an’ area of strength, due to it’s underperformance and inconsistencies, I definitely do not think it’s a concern worthy of signing Cutch (maybe Marwin tho), especially with Wade/Rooker/Cave as AAA depth. And with Polanco and Sano as the only “locks” in the infield, along with no immediate depth besides Gordon (maybe Arraez??), the Twins biggest priorities lie in both the corner and middle infield. And yes, Marwin Gonzalez would be a great addition, but I have a feeling he’d much rather stay in Houston. Unfortunately, our FA options are likely limited to only Iglesias, Harrison, Galvis, Mercer, etc. Although maybe there’s a slight chance that Murphy or Lowrie would be willing to come to MN, but like I said earlier, we can always make a trade (Rendon/Carpenter/Smoak).
  19. Since you’re talking about adding an impact bat(s) to our lineup, who do you have in mind besides Esco, because I really doubt he’ coming back?? Personally, I’d like to see us sign Nelson Cruz and then trade for either Matt Carpenter or Justin Smoak.
  20. I agree with you on Kepler, getting a new middle infielder, and adding more pitching, but in disagreement, I’d prefer that we move Sano to 1st, sign Nelson Cruz to DH, and then find a new 3rd basemen because I really don’t wanna see Austin starting on a regular basis at 1st unless someone gets hurt (likely Sano).
  21. If Twins FO were to follow the Brewer’s blueprint, the closest thing to the Yelich trade that they could replicate is if they were to make a trade for the D’backs’s SS/3B/2B Ketel Marte, who like Yelich, has the tools to be an All-Star (probably not MVP tho). Hypothetically, a deal for Marte would probably require giving up Stephen Gonsalves, Wander Javier, and maybe even Lamonte Wade.
  22. I know this may be off-topic and also seem like we’d be selling low since it doesn’t involve DeGrom or Thor, but does anyone think would it reasonable for the FO to trade Sano to the Cardinals for Jordan Hicks, Luke Weaver, and a lottery ticket??? The Cards are already drowning in pitching depth and could use a cheap/controllable impact bat at 1B/3B, so the match seems at least possible.
  23. Not sure about Nuñez, but it wouldn’t surprise me. Also, I think it’s well well known around the Twins community that our development process sucks (Sano, Buxton, Vargas, Gonsalves, Gordon, Meyer, ABWII, Stewart, Jay), but what’s truly embarrassing about this specific situation is that most ‘high school programs’ work on eliminating extra movement through “short arming” the ball as an infielder and making quick “catch and release” transfers, yet a freaking ‘Major League’ organization like Twins can’t instill this in Polanco.
  24. Polanco’s problem isn’t entirely with his arm strength, nor is it with fielding the ball, the problem is his inefficient (and ugly) throwing mechanics and his extremely slow “catch and release” transition. A shortstop is supposed to (at least) adequately ‘smooth,’ Polanco is not.
