  1. It has been more than 1 poor season, hasn't it? I wouldn't fire someone after 1 poor season. That's my question, how many poor seasons does it take?
  2. I HATE the phrase post-mortem with a passion, and I am in IT, so I see it a lot.....can we find another phrase that isn't about death? I don't think September tells us much, people claim that changes were made all the time, after a hot streak. No one says, "here is the change I just made" and then sees what happens. He's young, they have no chance of making the playoffs next year w/o major changes, he should start in RF until they determine he isn't good enough and it matters if he's good enough, imo.
  3. It seems unfair to say "Its too early to cast judgment on Ryan's second tenure." without saying what isn't too early, doesn't it?
  4. How many years of 90 + loss seasons before I can judge him at all?
  5. If you never sign players for big money, as a philosophy, it is pretty hard to tie up the team with bad contracts. Who cares if he spends too much money, other than the Pohlads? They are now on year 4 of 90+ losses, and somehow that's not on Ryan at all? I'm. Baffled.
  6. Managing is all about playing the odds.......not sacrifice bunting in the third inning, not IBB, not a lot of old school stuff, so we'll disagree on the importance of stats in managing and coaching. We can only go off the information we have, the only information we have about Dougie and his thoughts on the fact this is 2014, and not 1990, is what he said in that interview.
  7. I've lost interest in Mientkiewicz completely. He is as old skewl as they get. The Twins need to embrace the concept that you can learn how to be better at what you do from almost any angle....and Dougie is 100% not there from what we can tell. And, ya, a guy that starts a fight as your leader? Not a fan. Pass.
  8. 80% of the starting pitching last year was FA or the best SP they've graduated in years, and they were the worst SP staff in baseball. 60% were FA that Ryan signed. According to all the former front office people on line, you judge a GM by trades, FA signings, and overall results (not the draft, that's the scouting director, though that person is hired by the GM.....). They traded two starting CF, and had no one to replace them. They signed 3 FA SP, and were the worst. They signed Kubel and Bartlett and put them on the roster. They keep thinking Hicks can play, with no backup plan at all. Their OF consisted mostly of infielders or AAA guys the last two years. Other than losing a lot by fielding a terrible team, so they are more likely to draft well, what has this GM done to really make the team better? Don't forget, the reason there are no players to pay right now, is that no one acquired in Ryan's last tenure was good enough to make the roster and stick and earn big bucks......
  9. Their window is closing(ed).......IMO, they either need to spend more money, or start over.
  10. I think there is no reason to hold back Burdi also. I was 100% wrong on that pick for sure. His pitches are ready right now for a bullpen role. As more and more teams are doing, call him up before he gets hurt.
  11. Garza Young was not like this at all. The Twins didn't give up a slew of prospects for a proven player, just like always, they gave up proven players for a prospect/1 year guy......in other words, the Twins were on the OTHER side of that trade. No one in that list for Sano looks like even a certain MLB player other than Sano. Odds are, less than half the guys in that list will deliver even 4 WAR in their career. That's the nature of prospects.
  12. It is clearly a skill....and it is clear pitchers have control over it too. No one is arguing with Suzuki on that. I bet he doesn't like that stat partly because it hates him as a catcher.
  13. It is more likely Sano, who has never played in the majors, will turn around a franchise, than a guy that has proven to be one of the best hitters in the game? Can you explain that belief?
  14. I always forget that one.......how about, TR doesn't do it much? Not sure why I always forget that one. That's all off topic, though. I like the list, and it is probably better than previous lists in this range, but no one screams they are making the majors (other than Hu.....) as an everyday player or starting pitcher. There are players here, imo, that will be on rosters for multiple years though. If only we could accurately predict which of them.....
  15. I'm talking prospects in general, not this list. This team has pretty much never traded a legit prospect for a proven MLB player, with the exception of Shannon Stewart, I think. It is the concept of trading prospects I'm talking about, not this part of the list. If you have the "deepest system", you have an excess to trade from.
  16. It's about money.....not about a 70 year old baseball player, or a 50-60 year old manager. It is about money. that's where FAs go, money.
  17. that's kind of our point, birdwatcher.....those prospects look better now, but those other prospects looked good in the past. MOST prospects don't work out, so quit being afraid to trade them for actual MLB players.......
  18. BTW, whoever said they should be like the Wild (sign elite players, make a minor trade or two, and develop players better), I agree 100%. But, I have ZERO expectation they'll sign elite players....ZERO. TR doesn't believe in it, and the Pohlads like their money too much.
  19. I always thought he was "pro Cuban", not "pro Cuban exile in the USA", so in some ways, that could actually help get actual Cubans around......so I didn't miss it, we just see it from different sides.
  20. If you have "the deepest system in baseball, with numerous guys in the top 100", you have a surplus to deal from.
  21. I have always loved Kepler, but the results have not matched the talent yet. At some point, the production needs to be there..... Walker strikes out a lot, no idea how far he can go because of that. He's going to have to really hit the ball hard to make up for that, imo. Lots of line drives that can't be caught.... I'd bump Hu in front of both of them, I think. Not sure I'd change anything else, this is a list of either high upside guys that have not produced a lot (either over time, or because they haven't been here long), or guys that have good production, but seem to have lower upside. It is a nice list though.
  22. Not. Tomas is going to cost a ton of money, and it will be about money, not Guillen.....
  23. From fangraphs: Twins ranked 4th in Bsr...... Twins ranked 8th in wRC+.... So on offense and baserunning, they are darn good this last year.... Twins ranked 4th worst in defense 2nd worst ERA, 2nd worst xFIP, Sounds like Molitor did his job ok to me.....and like TR did not (given he signed 3 FA starters). The issue with this team is pretty obvious (and begs the question, why not try Meyer, instead of say, Swarzak, or most anyone).
  24. Right, I should have just gone ranges right away......but didn't. Alas.
