  1. Miami, St. Louis, SF, etc.....it isn't just Washington that has a different approach. It is also possible the FO is wrong, given the track record here, one might even think that is likely.
  2. I am not saying it will happen, I was trying to say that if it did happen, that would be depressing, and an indictment either on the scouts, the minor league coaches, or both.
  3. Hard to say what I'd do if the Twins offered me more money than anyone else.....btw, I don't expect that to happen, but I'm saying there is no reason it shouldn't, imo. It is cool with me if you disagree that they should spend money on elite players, neither of us actually get to make that decision.
  4. So no team has done, so no team should do it? I have never believed that in any part of life.
  5. Yes, it would be a good idea for them also
  6. Meyer and May to the bullpen? Ugh......and people wonder why some of us want the Twins to pay for elite players, rather than try to develop them.
  7. Other teams have figured out the idea........get your pitchers up earlier, before they get hurt. I also found the article depressing about Meyer. I have no idea if Berrios can be great or not, but if we now think Meyer can't, well, that's depressing. So far, the Span and Revere trades have produced negative WAR for the Twins......just great.
  8. Players go where the money is. If they Twins offer more money, they have a chance. If they low ball the players and "can't give their money away", they won't.
  9. But KC lost the greatest prospect ever, and can never recover from that. /s I agree, but when we've suggested that, people have said the prospects (other than Sano and Buxton and maybe Berrios) aren't worth much in a deal (while also claiming the Twins will rely on those prospects to be successful).
  10. So the answer is to sign none of them, and hope you can pick and develop the right 18 year old? Think of it as a 4 year deal with a 1 year retirement plan. Does that help?
  11. I disagree with the statement that no team should sign a pitcher for 5 years or lots and lots of money. What should the Twins do with that money? I'd say they should spend it on elite players to get better. Mauer is off the books in three years. Not one other player on the 40 man roster is likely to make the kind of many we are talking about, certainly no one on the 25.
  12. I wanted to be a US Senator, then I spent time in DC on the Hill and in politics in MN.....and I didn't want to be an elected official anymore* *plus, I'm sure I've now posted enough stupid stuff on the interwebs that I'd not be electable because I'm not goofy out there, just out there.....
  13. Well, it didn't say we should be dead......it said we'd hurt ourselves badly if we tried to play baseball* *it didn't really say that, for those of you that think I actually meant that
  14. Here you go, it won't make most people here very happy...... "In the past few seasons, hitters no longer improve once they arrive in the majors. Instead, their performance is constant until they begin to decline, which, on average, is at 26 years old. Improved training and development is probably behind the shift. If fans are hoping for a young position player’s performance to peak, they might be sorely disappointed. Chances are the player is likely producing at his career-best already." http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/hitters-no-longer-peak-only-decline/ Remember, this is what to expect to happen, not will for each player. And, a team should plan on what they expect to happen......
  15. this actually isn't true anymore, if I recall correctly. Peak age has come slightly earlier rather than later, now that teams are calling up players that are younger. I would have to dig a bit to find the research that was done last year on this....... I'd guess the Rochester complaint is that if they are in AAA still, and 30, they probably aren't that good. At least that's what I would say, if I was saying anything about Rochester.
  16. I'm not convinced Santana and Vargas will improve next year, they are producing at a level much higher than I think most expect to continue. They are likely to not be this good, imo. That kind of leaves Pinto and Arcia on the position player side, doesn't it? Plouffe is not "young", nor is Escobar. They probably are who they are this year (or worse, given their previous records, but I think they will be about what they are this year, not worse). Dozier probably is this player. One guy that I think will product more is Mauer. I just believe he'll be healthy next year...... I have no idea what to expect out of Milone or May or Nolasco, frankly.
  17. i'm not sure what that has to do with my post, since my post was in reply to you posting about how often Dozier has been in the three hole.....I was not posting about the offense at all. People do realize that they can't complain about the D, say it needs to get better, and then argue that the Twins should make no changes on offense, right?
  18. That is a one liner in a post about how you can't win with a bunch of guys that are at best average, while still carrying several players that aren't good at all. I don't necessarily agree or disagree with the poster, but it seems unfair to the post to pick on a nit in a long post. YMMV, of course.
  19. Uh, the ranking is how someone did, not a prospect ranking. Age is not relevant. The future is not relevant. It is a "who did the best at hitting" ranking...... that said, I kind of like Garver's numbers better, what with the ridiculous OBP.
  20. No, I think I was pretty clear, they aren't going to eat that much money. That wasn't clear in my statements?
  21. Ryan was on the radio two weeks ago saying santana is a SS long term.
  22. Lifetime Healthcare is so huge. It frees you up to take a job and to move around......so huge.
  23. I think counting on Buxton or Sano is a bit premature. Neither can even play baseball right now. Meyer? Ryan basically said again he's not ready. Gibson looks like a 3/4. Nolasco is terrible. Hughes is a nice pitcher. Then there are a bunch of question marks. There are at least 2, if not three, holes there. The Twins can choose to eat Nolasco's money, or trot him out there. We know what they will do there. The SP is not good, despite signing three free agents and graduating the one guy most ready to pitch. No idea why anyone should feel good about this group at all. The bullpen is filled with old guys w/o options, leaving the team with no roster flexibility. There are surely 3 holes there. CF is manned by a guy the GM says is a SS long term. LF....black hole. RF.....he's ok, but not good right now. There might not be "room" to add many players, but that is a function of what is available in FA, their willingness to spend money or not, the lack of SP ready in the minors (or OF ready)......not a function of this being a good team at all that has no holes. What it is, is a team likely to lose more than 85 games again next year, unless there are changes.
  24. Actually, once we got past the first post, I was good with the conversation. Sorry if the community was not...... If they have 70MM under contract, I bet they could fit another 20MM in easy......if not, they are doing something wrong. So, go buy the best pitcher, imo. In three years, Mauer's money is gone, and it doesn't look like there are any superstars needing money in the next 2-4 years.....
