  1. I'd not protect Wimmers at this point. And, I was a big supporter of him coming back this year......
  2. Except you are arguing that Gardy's decisions months ago cost Hughes the money, not in the last week or so...... the guy has let it go, and said he doesn't deserve the money, not sure why fans can't realize the same thing.
  3. So? Gardy didn't do anything to keep him from getting it, he did stuff to win games. If he asked Dozier to bunt late in a game, and he fell a hit short of a bonus, would you pay Dozier?
  4. I read Hughes comments as a clear shot at Suzuki playing over pinto. Clear as day.
  5. so, should they give Santana more money, since he was way better than expected and outearned his pay? Should they give the ticket people money because they sold tickets in a terrible year, even if they didn't meet their goals? he got 2 bonuses already.....this is a third. Where do you draw the line? 1 out? 4? 10?
  6. He's been very good offensively in the second half this year, now that he is healthy.....do people trust Kemp to stay healthy?
  7. He did not earn it....should they pay everyone that came close? that's not how incentives work in companies.
  8. Right, SD....they wanted those two split up to get them both time. It was a good decision, IMO. I think they COULD be in the same town, and split C and DH, depending on needs of others to DH. Maybe even play some 1B......but keeping them split for another year (at least to start) seems to make sense (not having thought much about other C options.....).
  9. I agree, top 5 is probably not reasonable as a threshold for firing.....I would "encourage" the signing at that level though.
  10. The argument many make seems to be "don't sing FA because they might now work out, and that's too much money to tie up".....what else would you all do with that money, other than pocket it? There isn't a player in this system that needs/deserves/gets a big money deal in the next 3-4 years. Not one. There is plenty of money to sign a big time FA SP if they want. By the time they need to sign Sano or Buxton or someone, Mauer's money is off the books. I endorse the plan laid out, though I'd say sign a top 10 guy on the WAR list....or even top 5.
  11. I have also changed my mind from yesterday. I would NOT give him the bonus he did not earn, and I would NOT have him pitch to get one more out. I would donate $500K to the charities of his choice, though.
  12. The farm is much deeper. Helps when you lose a lot and get high picks, Makes your job much, much easier. The hard part is drafting and developing guys not picked in the top 10......
  13. 23 years ago? That doesn't buy much for anyone under 25, or that has moved here in the last 20 years.....it also doesn't buy much for people less loyal than you. Would you keep buying your favorite beverage if is used to be good 20 years ago, but was now awful?
  14. Can anyone answer this? I have asked it before.......
  15. Season ticket numbers correlate very well with the prior season's results.....so, tickets will likely be well down next year, since this year was bad, the new smell of the stadium is now a stale smell, and there is no ASG. Good luck to the team selling tickets. Given how cheap they are on the secondary market (though, as someone pointed out, that will shrink too), I have no idea why anyone pays face value if they are a casual fan.
  16. I only know a handful of people with tickets, only one is renewing. I can't see any reason a casual fan would go to watch this team. As Hunter and Santana said, "they play for a future that never comes". I feel that way right now. "next year, they'll be good" has been typed on this site for 2 straight years. It is being typed here again this year. Well, to me and some of the people I know, there is no evidence that is true at all.
  17. It raises the question, to me, how can you have expanded rosters, have a lot of SP options, and have to start your long term reliever? How can a team that has traded for SP, signed 3 FA starters, "developed" SP, signed minor league AAA SP, graduated the only guy they've drafted and developed into a full time starter......how can that team be stuck starting a career middle reliever? Years into a rebuild, where you've traded two starting OF, drafted numerous pitchers, signed FAs, signed minor league FAs, and you still have a terrible SP ERA, and can't even find 5 starters........
  18. i was more replying to the other comment, saying how awesome the system must be if a guy that won an award is in the 40s.....I get what you were doing, and agree with you.
  19. Murphy is 21 and was playing against HSers......he better be at/near hitter of the year. Not discounting his accomplishments, but saying that a college kid dominated HSers isn't that big a deal, I'd think. This is a list, imo, of guys that have talent, but we aren't sure how much talent really. They are either young, or very inconsistent.
  20. How can a team with this many 4/5 types have Swarzak starting multiple times in September after rosters expand? Mind. Boggling.
  21. Glad to read TR is not pleased with the outcomes this year.
  22. If he's in the rotation to start the season, they are neither rebuilding nor going all in to win, so it will just continue the head scratching lack of commitment to an actual strategy by this team....... Bullpen would be ok with me, but overall, I'd like the bullpen to be filled with young players with options, so they can only carry 12 and move them up and down to AAA.....clogging your pen with old guys that are paid a lot of money (when you are a cheap team) makes no strategic sense. That said, he's signed, so I'd move him to the pen and see if lightning strikes. If you NEED him as a 7th starter, he's there. And, the injury and bad play was predictable, since some of us did predict it......
  23. I'd tell her that she got it from Cabrera, and it was a nice act by him.
  24. Really? You think Dan Cole only cares about child abuse in re: athletes? edit: I just defended one of my least favorite radio personalities
  25. Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, but it gets to my logical fallacy statements earlier, if it is serious.......
