  1. I don't care if they brag about it or not. I care that they use all avenues to get better at their jobs, and that outcomes improve. I care that the FO strategy and on field tactics are aligned. I care that people are open to new ideas, and implement the ones that make sense in the context they are in. I also think they should, from a PR perspective, be more open about that approach, but I don't care if they do that.
  2. No, I have never argued that. I have argued that signing one or more Cubans the last few years, when they were undervalued, would have been a good idea. And, I argued that before they were signed, not after. But NO PLACE has anyone said they should sign EVERY Cuban, or EVERY FA or any such straw man. But this conversation started above.....when you basically said that since they had Sano, they should, I'm not sure what you are arguing......
  3. So? I'd rather have Sano than about 1000000 baseball players. No place does signing Sano stop you from later acquiring another player. I still don't understand what you are arguing.
  4. Um, those players weren't available in 2009. I don't get your argument at all. Having Sano did not mean "thou shalt not sign Soler or Abreu".
  5. Why is it wrong to sign a FA if he won't make you a WS contender (if you have the money, even for years to come given the number of cheap players here), but ok to promote a prospect? The argument seems to be "don't spend money if you can't win the WS", as in "they aren't just one player away, so don't sign him". Yes, people are typing that here. Why is that the standard? Why isn't "make the team better" the standard? Other than the owners, who is better off (well, I guess bad players that would have to find other jobs are) by fielding a cheaper, worse team? How is spending less, and winning 68 games, better for the fans than spending more and winning 75 games?
  6. I don't care if Ryan tries to improve the team, I could do that as GM. I care if he succeeds in improving the team. Anyone can "try" to "go after" players.......successful GMs add talent. They don't try to add talent.
  7. I don't agree, a player should not prove they have nothing to learn at a level before moving up. Everyone can be better.
  8. That was my point. ....people here are saying twins players have to prove they are ready before coming up. You and I seem to agree, they don't. And you can't.
  9. No one can be sure anyone is ready. Plenty of teams call up guys before they prove stuff. I think KC has a pitcher that was in college this year. ......but for some reason, MN players must prove a positive, which is actually impossible.
  10. I think counting on Mauer to be an elite 1b at this point is hope, not strategy. There is little evidence he is tending up, and he spent years catching and should age like one.
  11. Well, it now looks like 5 or 6 years. ......because apparently it won't be next year. If they actually try at some point, rather than wait.
  12. I think Trevor is now under rated. He's slightly above average as a 3B.......that is super valuable. No way I deal him now, Sano is at least half a year away, if not more.Plus, he could be your RF or 1B or DH. Keep Trevor, and trust him.
  13. Ha, I'm not trying to win anything. I'm not even really arguing here, I'm just trying to have a mature baseball discussion. Sometimes we aren't as tolerant as we could all be, but I think most of the threads so far this last week or so have been pretty mature. Everything I post on this site is about performance and process, not about the people. Sometimes we forget that .....
  14. It would be cool if Buxton was ready day one, what odds do you give? I'd say about 5%.
  15. Aren't players in the majors more likely to be good in the majors than guys in A ball? I think he's talking about that, but i'm not sure.....
  16. That would be sweet for sure.
  17. I like the guy fine, from what you can tell from afar. yes, it is speculation, hence my use of the word "opinion", not fact, or even stating it like a fact. It is my opinion, nothing more or less. I've even typed here that I have no shred of evidence to support it.
  18. That's not what Ryan says, that not what any talking head on the internet says. Ryan does not approve the picks.
  19. THE GM DOES NOT make the draft picks. The scouting director does that. The best way TR has contributed to the draft is by fielding awful MLB teams, giving the team a shot at more elite players.
  20. I share this opinion 100%. I've even typed it here before. It is not a popular opinion to hold.
  21. I actually think Ryan is a very good scout. I think he is a good people person. I think he's pretty good with the public. I think he does a lot well. I am not convinced he does enough well, nor is he embracing the changes in the game (though that's based on outcomes and on field, not on anything more) in the last few years actively. to me, this is a big year. If they make progress and add talent (not the draft, every team adds talent in the draft), and they don't go all cheap, I'm ok with him having his job. But I'm skeptical.
  22. Who was on the 07 list? Who was on the 06 list, and did they graduate to the Twins? The guys on the 08 list doesn't include anyone from 07, or they graduated? Two guys on the 08 list in the top 52 were acquired by Bill Smith for a guy EVERYONE knew would not sign here. Sounds like a trade Ryan would be lauded for.
  23. I'm not sure I was clear, in my post.....I think he has a shot to be quite good. I don't think we know that he is yet, and he should play. I'm not convinced something changed, but if it did, and it worked, great. But the story that something changed is used a lot, so I am always skeptical.
  24. It is all the information we have......I guess we could just say "doug is younger, ergo a better candidate" since that is all we really KNOW at this point.
  25. Which is the new practice, since hitters have been taught to hit the low pitch for the last 5-10 years, they aren't as good with the high pitch (that's the meme I read on line anyway).
