  1. Sure, in a better world, the Twins sign an elite FA......but we don't live in that world, do we?
  2. Not to mention Sano might be your RF some day soonish.......
  3. I'm pretty sure the inclusion of Deunsing indicates you missed some sarcasm.....
  4. Note very team, apparently.......how about 2, how do you feel about a 2 year rebuild?
  5. But the Royals would not be in the playoffs, would still be under 80 wins probably, and would still be waiting another year to try to be good....oh, right, that was your point. Keeping Myers (who can't defend and doesn't fit their strategy) and Odorizzi was a bad idea. I agree.
  6. And what should they do with the other 20+ million dollars they have? Money should not be a limiting factor here at all. Just checked Fangraphs, Andre Ethier is a bad defender, not a good defender. He has 1 year where he did not have a negative defensive rating, and that was a 0.1 rating.
  7. Not entirely true, they've been drafting pitchers to take over when Shields is gone....they still have a decent farm system. People keep typing "they won't have any pitching when Shields leaves", and that just isn't true. Also, Wil Meyers is not good on defense. He does not fit their strategy of run prevention at all. Maybe that is one reason they traded him. they also felt, wrongly, that their other hitters would progress (like everyone here seems to think young players in MN will do). One thing that bothers me in this thread.....the statement, like it is a fact not an opinion, that trying to jump from 75 wins to the playoffs in less than 5 years is wrong.....that's an opinion, not a fact.
  8. Young was not short term thinking, it was just wrong thinking.
  9. KC was filled with "can't miss" prospects that missed. I don't understand the utter fear of dealing minor league players for proven MLB talent. Nick's right, the goal posts have been moved the last two years here, at what point do they stop moving, and you actually try to be good? What if they stink again next year, should the fans and the owners just wait another year to try to be good? Just keep moving the goal posts?
  10. We have no idea what Pohlad really thinks....None.
  11. Oh, and I'd move Goodrum to LF ASAP.....and make him a great defender that can steal. Span light, with more speed. Although, I'd consider leaving him at 3B.....but he should be in AA next year.
  12. Of these, I like Turner and Reed the most for some reason.
  13. Oh, I still think he can be a RP.....but not sure he needs protecting.
  14. I'd not protect Wimmers at this point. And, I was a big supporter of him coming back this year......
  15. Except you are arguing that Gardy's decisions months ago cost Hughes the money, not in the last week or so...... the guy has let it go, and said he doesn't deserve the money, not sure why fans can't realize the same thing.
  16. So? Gardy didn't do anything to keep him from getting it, he did stuff to win games. If he asked Dozier to bunt late in a game, and he fell a hit short of a bonus, would you pay Dozier?
  17. I read Hughes comments as a clear shot at Suzuki playing over pinto. Clear as day.
  18. so, should they give Santana more money, since he was way better than expected and outearned his pay? Should they give the ticket people money because they sold tickets in a terrible year, even if they didn't meet their goals? he got 2 bonuses already.....this is a third. Where do you draw the line? 1 out? 4? 10?
  19. He's been very good offensively in the second half this year, now that he is healthy.....do people trust Kemp to stay healthy?
  20. He did not earn it....should they pay everyone that came close? that's not how incentives work in companies.
  21. Right, SD....they wanted those two split up to get them both time. It was a good decision, IMO. I think they COULD be in the same town, and split C and DH, depending on needs of others to DH. Maybe even play some 1B......but keeping them split for another year (at least to start) seems to make sense (not having thought much about other C options.....).
  22. I agree, top 5 is probably not reasonable as a threshold for firing.....I would "encourage" the signing at that level though.
  23. The argument many make seems to be "don't sing FA because they might now work out, and that's too much money to tie up".....what else would you all do with that money, other than pocket it? There isn't a player in this system that needs/deserves/gets a big money deal in the next 3-4 years. Not one. There is plenty of money to sign a big time FA SP if they want. By the time they need to sign Sano or Buxton or someone, Mauer's money is off the books. I endorse the plan laid out, though I'd say sign a top 10 guy on the WAR list....or even top 5.
  24. I have also changed my mind from yesterday. I would NOT give him the bonus he did not earn, and I would NOT have him pitch to get one more out. I would donate $500K to the charities of his choice, though.
  25. The farm is much deeper. Helps when you lose a lot and get high picks, Makes your job much, much easier. The hard part is drafting and developing guys not picked in the top 10......
