  1. It also assumes that the mid range tickets somehow reflect the actual "average" value of tickets sold. I don't know if that assumption is valid or not. Whatever, I don't care about the revenue. It is icing on the cake to the other stuff.
  2. Kick him to AAA. I don't care about the money, they are flush in money (well, the Twins are, the Pohlads might actually have to pay some taxes.....).
  3. Ha, slightly different sources, but very similar numbers....
  4. Just checked, it is about $45 per person in KC....so new number: $9,477,000---still real money, but not a ton more.
  5. Correct, they will sell even more tickets even next year, probably. so, in addition to all the other stuff I typed, they are making more money.....
  6. 2600x75*81=15,795,000---that is a goodly amount of revenue. *I chose $75 as a guess for food, tickets, parking, hats, whatever.....
  7. They would only have 4 years left of Myers at this point..... Would the RF for the last two years play if Myers was there? Would the Royals pitchers have the same size delta in FIP and ERA with Myers out there? Are you sure the delta between Myers and the RF they will have the next 4 years is really big? Not having Myers means someone else plays RF, and unlike the Twins, the Royals put legit OF out there after making their trade, not Aaron Hicks. IMO, people aren't looking at ALL the things that happened/happen when a trade is made. They got relevant. they made the playoffs. they replaced Myers with legit MLB player(s) they would likely only have Myers four more years after this, if he turns into a superstar, if not, then the trade looks even better they also got a RP in the trade, not just Shields
  8. IF I read that right, Rasmus is much, much better than Hicks.....Rasmus had 3 positive defensive WAR years (on fangrapsh), and 3 negative. How many positive does Hicks have so far? None. Rasmus' offense is worth A LOT more than Hicks' offense. Don't forget, WAR is a counting stat....so the more Hicks plays, the worse his WAR. I think you need to double Hicks dWAR score to make it close to comparable, maybe triple it.
  9. For those on the "what a mistake by KC side"......do you place no value on them being relevant last year, and in the playoffs next year? If they aren't relevant last year, and not in the playoffs this year, but then, say, make the playoffs for 4 years until they have to trade Myers because he was so valuable.....is that really better? Are you really sure they make the playoffs with Myers? His defense does NOT fit their strategy, for example. Don't forget, they got a bullpen arm that has helped them too. Everyone talks about this like it was 4:1.
  10. Fear of making change because it might kill the long term is not a good approach to life, imo. As pointed out many times, what if the Twins had traded all those highly ranked prospects that never panned out for proven MLB players? Like, I don't know, Hicks for Cliff Lee back in the day? There is much more certainty about time that is closer to now. As you move further into the future, random variation becomes more pronounced in its effect (like injuries, for example). IMO, teams in all sports undervalue the present for a future that may never come. Would anyone have predicted Mauer and Morneau would suffer concussions, meaning the Twins might/probably would have been better off trying to close the deal when they were both healthy (because you know they are healthy). As an example, the Patriots keep trading their first rounders for more picks in the future (and letting FA leave, and trading good veterans), but that means the return on Tom Brady is lower and lower than it could have been. Where would they be the last few years if they had drafted more of their first round picks, and not traded Mankins and let Welker leave? I'd guess much better.
  11. Being old does not mean you cannot relate to younger people.......so I'd not automatically preclude an older person.
  12. Hicks, to me, continued to show he can't hit, so if "did he prove anything", do you mean "did he continue to prove he can't hit", then yes. Hicks should be in AAA next year.
  13. Having never interviewed, met, or even discussed any of these people before, this post seems a bit silly, but whatever......also, I am not a fan of Ryan making this decision. I just don't feel he is at all "hip" to how baseball teams are managed from the FO to the field in this era. I want a team that believes that people in the FO can help the field staff, that the strategies of types of players and tactical decisions are aligned, etc. I don't get that vibe from Ryan at all. I think I recall reading that Jake Mauer sacrifice bunted in early innings this year......if so, I have no interest in him. I think Dave Martinez makes a ton of sense. He's been sitting next to a pretty good manager for a while, he speaks Spanish (I think speaking it is an improvement), and I think KLAW tweeted yesterday that he hears very good things about him. My second choice would be someone that coaches/manages for a team that understands the stuff I typed above, about the FO and field staff being aligned, about using modern analytics to inform decisions, about a willingness to try new and innovative approaches to the game. My next choice is dougie baseball, except I refuse to learn how to spell his last name....and I have no rational reason for this choice, frankly. Here ends my nearly completely uniformed post advising Mr. Ryan what to do....
  14. That was a terribly managed game, imo...... I always said this about Gardy, 1. Seemed a bit condescending, but most coaches do. I think in person, I'd love his personality, on the radio, it came off, off to me. Kind of like my posts on line, frankly. 2. He clearly does something right in managing the personalities (as a whole, maybe not for every individual, but who could). Something he does/did worked a lot over his career. 3. His tactical decisions often left me wondering about his understanding of probability. That was about the classiest firing we will ever witness, probably. You feel bad for the man, while at the same time being hopeful about the future. My point with wanting him gone was mostly about the fresh voice. Companies don't usually run well with the same person in charge for over a decade.
  15. Younger guy who understands this is 2015, not 1995.......
  16. Guillen just isn't that good a manager......there are millions of Hispanics in this country, there must be another option.
  17. That's not how it works, right? The defense would be worse, and this year at least, the hitting would be worse. There is value in signaling to the team that you are trying, right now, to win, imo. Ok, how about 80 wins w/o the deal? I'm with Nick, there is GREAT value to recapturing the fans, and signaling to the players you aren't going to wait 3-5 more years to matter. No way the Royals could sign a big time FA, so they had to deal for a legit leader of their staff. How many wins is Shields worth over Swarzak, in a year? How many wins is their current RF worth over Myers right now (not in the future, a future that may never come, but right now)?
  18. First few mins: both TR and Gardy.....it's all about wins, and we didn't win enough. Both are truly classy in their approach, really.
  19. I am hoping not Molitor. I am ready for someone that really symbolizes change. Even Jake Mauer or Menataetoiagl;witz (sp?) would do that more than Molly, for me anyway.
  20. Better they had muddled along with 75-78 wins the last two years?
  21. I might have to somehow listen at work at 3.......
  22. I think I agree with this, though if there was a coach I had STRONG feelings about one way or the other, I'd certainly let the new gal know.
  23. Color me shocked. I am not a huge fan of his on field decisions, but he clearly does something right in the clubhouse most of the time. I feel bad for the person, but I did feel it was time. Every organization needs new voices after a while. Good luck to Mr. Gardenhire in whatever he decides to do next. Good luck to all of the other coaches also. Finally, good luck to the team in finding replacements.
  24. Toronto needs to shed salary. Philly should, but won't. Cincy should, but may not be wiling to admit it. Tampa's owner has already said they need to cut payroll (man, I feel sorry for that FO). Those would be my guess.
  25. they'll also have gone from 70 some wins to a good season last year, and a very good season this year. People seem to forget that teams need to sell tickets and provide results. They Royals did that the last two years. I don't think they would have w/o the trade.
