  1. I think it is a "thing" for older players that are losing their ability to try to pull the ball for more power. Perhaps it is as simple as age. Perhaps not. I do feel that he should be moved from catcher sooner rather than later, because if it is the concussions, Joe and the Twins robbed him of several years of effectiveness by not moving him before they did. And I felt that way before all this, before the last concussions at catcher.
  2. or move him to the pen and see if he can dominate lefties.....because on this staff, with the FAs they've signed, how much of a shot is he really going to get to start in the majors any time soon?
  3. 4. He's older and not as good...... Last year he was 15th of 23 qualified 1B (offense only part of WAR).......15th. It's not just where he falls, but how far he is from even being good. He was closer to negative WAR than he was the top 10..... Filtering on 2014-present, he actually has a negative offensive WAR for a 1B over the last year plus......
  4. If this is Joe Mauer.....then yes, he will be blocking better players. I'd argue that Sano s/b at 1B right now, with Plouffe at 3B..... He's one of the worst hitting regular 1B in baseball......you owe it to the other players and the fans to put the best players on the field. I'd say if this is how he plays all year, you have to consider benching him next year. Or, you can just keep putting him out there, even though he is bad at his job, and not be trying to be the best team you can.
  5. They have specifically told him to lay off low pitchers, even if they might be strikes, for now. Maybe the pitchers know that, and are attacking him there?
  6. Hate that he is batting ninth. But at least he s up.
  7. It seems obvious, but lots of things seem that way......how far do you extend the logic? 8 man rotation?
  8. Ya, I think that's like the earth is flat, and I don't mean that as an insult......., it seems obvious, but it must not be real, otherwise teams would be doing it, and we'd see all kinds of internet articles about how this is the answer to injuries. I think you are making a ton of assumptions, and there is no evidence that it works......
  9. I'm assuming Buxton and Berrios are added either this year, or during next year, not after 2016....so it is 16 guys to be added effectively, not 14 to be added this/next year before next year ends........and, if any of these recent RP are brought up, they need to be added to the 40 man, or do people want to wait 3 more years for them to come up? Hence some of us wanting some guys traded, which isn't happening, I'd guess.
  10. Is there actual evidence doing this would protect anyone's arm that is already used to throwing starter innings? I'm guessing ZERO, otherwise every team would do it.
  11. If a minor league all star game is impeding his progress in any way, that is just stupid, and I have no issue typing that word...........so I hope you are wrong, and that's not why he is not in AAA or MLB.
  12. Funny, I was just coming on to say I forgot that part before, congrats to Eades.
  13. ah, my bad, I thought you meant us all here .....kind of feel silly for the whole conversation now!
  14. too early to give up, not to early to be disappointed so far......but this is his 2nd year in life being dedicated to baseball. Next year, imo, is the year where it would make sense to either be thrilled, or quite worried.
  15. so a random guy on the internet should reach out to minor league coaches and national scouts? is that realistic, in your mind?
  16. who should those people talk to? I do agree, 1 game is nothing to draw a conclusion from.....
  17. 1, Having all veterans with no options means you have no flexibility. It was a mistake from day 1. 2. He took up a 25 man roster spot, that could have gone to someone of use, that would maybe not supply negative value. Every roster spot matters, despite how this team has acted the last 4 years. we saw it last year, we see it this year. 3. If they are still rebuilding, as many here contend, the young guys should be up here, so they can gather data on them, Achter, Oliverous, Tonkin, x, y, z, should all get time here this year so they can sort things out. 4. If they are not rebuilding, then they certainly shouldn't keep someone around that long that is really bad. And, there is no reason to repeat the mistake with Duensing, who despite what people keep typing, was awful last year also.
  18. Good point Nick. He wasn't all that good last year. They have lots of young arms, but signed him. It was inexplicable then.
  19. Joe is a huge problem, but I already was chastised once today for bringing that up in a thread that wasn't about him.......as is Suzuki. Two biggest black hoes if you don't move Sano or give Kepler a shot.....and not idea what to do at catcher.
  20. The argument seems to be, don't make CF better until you fix other problems first? That's not how baseball works, or any business. They aren't related at all.
