  1. Only if you are willing to trade them......and do so before they lose value.
  2. right.......which is going to be a problem (heck, I'd say it is a problem already this year)
  3. I don't think he makes it to them. If he does, they should take him, and put him in Ft. Meyers.
  4. This is going to really hurt the Twins over the next few years. Sano s/b your 1B right now, or soon. Vargas or Arcia or someone else should be your DH right now, or soon. In the mean time, you are stuck with a guy that I don't think they'll ever be brave enough to bench. He either retires, or they play a man short in the lineup. If only they had moved him off catcher sooner.....if only that had been an option.
  5. it isn't, but they can't just ignore profitability, as much as I'd like them to. My issue with the Pohlad's approach was that, imo, you have to sometimes spend money to make it. It appears that is happening lately.
  6. It is if you are running a business and need to make money. And, there just are no guarantees that either way works.
  7. Or they could have sat still , and not made the playoffs the last two years, and have a super deep minor league system, and then in 5 years maybe be good if everyone worked out.
  8. got it, sometimes we* do post across each other *we=all of us here
  9. How would this happen? Will they keep him in the minors for 3 more years somehow? Or move Mauer? btw, I've been saying this also should be his future.....
  10. Because you can't predict they'll be good, healthy, and all the others would too, just like Mauer and Morneau....I was comparing this situation to the one in the 2000s where they refused to trade from the future, because we just had to wait for Mauer and Morneau to build around, then we could worry about the present.
  11. No, it is not likely Sano will hit 40 HRs. that jus is super rare now. And, I was 100% clear, don't trade Sano or Buxton or Berrios.......
  12. didn't the Wild buy the two most expensive FAs out there? Didn't they go out and trade for a goalie? Did the Wild have a minor league system so deep in left winger that they were likely to lose some in the next off season (see, Twins, corner OF/DH/1B types)?
  13. Except they pick way too late to try that strategy with their next pick.
  14. If they are 10 games over at the trade deadline, I disagree. They should be going all in. In 3 years, Buxton and Sano could get concussions (M&M boys, remember how they were going to carry the Twins to WS), or none of the SP prospects could have worked out, or whatever. If you are in the playoff hunt, legitimately, not barely, you have to take the chance when you have it. There is value in the more certain present. The further into the future you get, the less you know about what it going to happen. I am not saying sell off the big prospects, but one of the many OF/DH/1B types that will sit in the minors while Mauer is here? I just think you all are underestimating the value of certainty, and over valuing the very unpredictable future.
  15. ya, they need some hitters for sure in the lower levels. I don't get the whole "corner OF isn't important" thing, never have. He can flat out hit. I'll take that over some projectable athlete that can't hit, and worry about LF/RF/1b/dh, whatever, later.
  16. It is a good point, plus Santana can't pitch in the post season. I don't envy Ryan this particular decision right now.
  17. If the Twins are 10 games over .500 when trading starts.....they should NOT be punting on this year by trading a successful player.
  18. Not a fan. Going to a 6 or 7 man rotation, imo, is just delaying hard decisions. They have a lack of position players already. This won't help that, imo.
  19. If the system is super deep already, it probably makes sense to get more high end talent in, and then, as you say, see what HS kids will sign.
  20. Tall pitchers make me nervous. I'd probably pass on that one.... Aiken also makes me nervous. Given they don't have a 2nd rounder, I think you can't take the chance on also blowing your first rounder (it is all somewhat luck based, adding a bad injury in makes it worse, imo). I like Tate or Bregman or Allard there.
  21. Except he plays first base. Compare him to other first basemen, and Joe looks quite bad.
  22. Read Kiley's article.....not short pitchers, short pitchers that the industry generally loves. KLAW's bias is founded in years of history showing that most short RH pitchers don't work out.
  23. Agreed, I've been saying early to mid-june since the year started.....If I wasn't working, it would have been much more EXTREME!, but I was sort of listening to that last call....
  24. Kiley calls him this year's black swan, KLAW finds him over rated by most everyone.
  25. The GM does not make the pick, does he? Isn't the that head scout's job?
