  1. Wouldn't Wade or the dude they claimed this off season be cheaper than Grossman? OBP is not valuable if the rest of your roster is not good at OBP, btw......which is why teams are going all in on power right now.
  2. Of course, you have no idea what my plan is, but you've already judged it!
  3. I know this was meant to be funny, but I'd 100% back a plan where all 30 teams made a new type of post season......
  4. https://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/retiring-mauer-and-utley-both-worthy-of-cooperstown/
  5. Damn concussions.... Good luck to him and his family! I hope he has a long, happy, retirement.
  6. If i am reading this correctly, you don't think they should try to compete next year? If true, what should they do?
  7. Maybe... But if one war was the expectation, then they had the wrong expectation..... And now they need to fill those exact holes again, since they went one year mostly.
  8. I am not sure the twins exactly gave up on Hicks. They traded him for a guy they thought was a starting catcher. That's very different than giving up on a guy.
  9. As if I suggested they do both of those things.....Darvish got hurt. The Twins supposedly bid the 2nd most for him, so clearly they thought they should sign him......
  10. I'd suggest last year they didn't spend wisely.....that was the issue (and Sano and Buxton being bad, not stars.....nothing matters if those to are bad, no amount of spending or better decision making). They went cheap, 1 year deals, and didn't sign legit players to multi year deals. Now, they need to fill those same holes again, because they literally didn't try to fill them for this year. Hopefully two things change: Buxton and Sano are stars again They FO chooses actual good players for their deals
  11. You're ignoring that players are no longer doing this.......they just aren't. You can project how you'd feel all you want, but just look at the last three or four years. 30/31 and older is now prime? On a site where people say all the time NOT to sign guys into their mid-30s, now it is a good idea? I'm confused by that sentence. In a league that is getting younger and younger? I don't see that.
  12. Well, I think you didn't read that right, Nick. One can hope on Buxton, and also not want to sign him to a long term deal......those are two very different things. Also, no way he signs an extension, super stars (or those that think they will be) who have received large bonus checks are no longer signing these types of deals. In almost every case, they've helped the team more than the player. Buxton will be a FA IN HIS PRIME YEARS. Why is he signing that away? For those saying "patience"....you do realize the Twins control his rights for only a few more years, right? If he's ok this year (which would be huge progress alas), then great...how many great years are they really getting for this patience? If you believe in Buxton and/or Sano, you should want them to be going for it this year or next year, because one or both of them will be gone in three or so years....
  13. because it is often used as an excuse not to get better, in the name of efficiency over effectiveness. If a team is 1 player away, and that player costs more $/WAR than is "right", they should or should not sign him? Because I don't care if they win 84 games efficiently, nor do most fans. And, let's be honest, you have a bias for capital over labor. That's cool, but not everyone shares that bias. The value of teams is rising faster than payrolls are, and I'm not cool with that. Old, formerly interesting, people on the east coast might be, but I don't think everyone shares James' opinion.
  14. I'm all for them aiming at 4WAR players....those guys will cost in the 20MM per year range, maybe as low as 15MM per year. Corbin, who might produce that, will get around 25-30MM per year, I'd guess.
  15. Let's hope we stay this way somehow.....
  16. I'ts not his fault they didn't win.......to me, MVP is who would you rather have on your roster? Now, I get some people would rather have the hitter, I'm good with that.....but it's not his fault they didn't win games......he provided great value to that team, they did not take advantage of that value.
  17. that's assuming Buxton and Sano aren't any better than last year......in which case no plan works. Has any team ever picked up 7 players in FA that did 2 WAR in that year? Did they then have to do it again the following year, because they signed a bunch of 1 year deals? Where, exactly, would you fit 7 new players on this roster? Who goes under this plan?
  18. Agreed......it's kind of hard to believe how bad they've been, especially because we were led to believe they had great scouts (starting with their GM), and that their entire strategy was build from within.....
  19. How about signing a legit number 3 to more than a 1 year deal....that would be a huge step up.....not everyone here is saying they have to sing an "ace".....
  20. you completely whiffed on the point of that post.....
  21. "There won't be a baseball stadium at the Portland Schools headquarters site after all. The Portland Diamond Project has pulled its offer after learning that another community coalition has a plan for an affordable housing project there, and they didn't want to get in the way." from a short news blurb this am....
  22. I'm not sure the "community" is behind this......there are certainly people here that are. And, 1993 is ancient history for this town. It couldn't be more different. Heck, 2010 is. Portland is one of the fastest growing cities around, and had the 2nd most cranes in use in the US earlier this year....so, nothing is "proven", imo.
  23. That award exists.... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hank_Aaron_Award
  24. Leaders should always have smarter people working for them.......
