  1. I too think they think Sano and Buxton will bounce back. I'm sure that is part of their internal projections. Every company on the planet does projections, it's called planning. The disdain on this site for planning is astounding. Not that you have that, but others do.
  2. It was for the low 80s, IIRC. Projections are most likely outcomes, not the only outcomes that a model spits out (or that might happen). But teams and companies should be built on what you think will happen, not hope...
  3. I couldn't disagree more strongly. All that money did was make the owners more money. I'd rather have the draft pick, 100x out of 100x.
  4. Good stuff. It makes the floor high, but the ceiling low.......and hard to upgrade some spots easily.
  5. At least we don't have a rule 5 guy they have no intention of using on the roster this year. I'll not lightly forget how badly teh roster was managed last year (especially since everyone knew Hughes was done.....two pitchers they'd never use on the roster).
  6. Most pitchers in all of baseball don't go six innings in a start.... The average last year was 5.2..... It's on the manager and FO to adjust given that reality.
  7. The alternative being to use the next guy in the minors? Who's probably going to provide negative value?
  8. Is it? I wonder what the average pitcher can do in one inning? Say, 80 percent of the time? Especially if they only pitch one or two innings every other day?
  9. Interest on one million is a drop in the bucket, when looking at their cost structure and revenue...... Less than it costs to sign a random sixteen year old on July 2.... So hopefully that isn't the deciding factor....
  10. I can't believe people think this price is any kind of barrier to future spending.
  11. In a quick look on the internet, the only recent study I can find, showed that an average of sixty percent of players did worse their second year on offense, than their first. However, that study did not control for the fact that batting averages were declining across the league.... The other studies I saw said that players regress to the mean their second year, but most players regress to the mean, that's why it's the mean..... So, not surprisingly, some players play worse, some better.....
  12. Remember when this was a thread about Kepler? Me neither.
  13. I think you are both right. There was no opportunity in NY in the OF, and he's probably not great out there.... As for here? Well, they didn't play Astudillo at catcher the first time.....
  14. Shopify, Okta, New Relic.....
  15. Good for him! Of course, to win, they'll need to add players....
  16. How so? The option years can be any price they negotiate. And, it looks like Kepler has a deal more evenly spread out, which was really the wish.
  17. Just started the expanse. It's good.
  18. Not sure, but I'm sure there are unintended consequences of front loading
  19. Agreed. Which I totally get. Just not what I'd do if I was a billionaire. But I get it. What I want is not what I expect, which some confuse here.
  20. Too bad they didn't front load it, to keep that flexibility. But that I would expect them to, but if your budget is really yearly, that would make some sense if you were worried about future spending.
  21. They are no longer the only team without a commitment past this year!
