  1. False hustle is silly. They are more likely to pull a hamstring than get to first in time to be safe. And I'm 54, this isn't about generations.
  2. No risk? I've never once said there is no risk. Of course there is risk in any decision. There is risk in relying on five one year deals, year after year. There is risk in relying on your farm almost exclusively. I've said that if you trust the front office to have their jobs, you have to trust them to spend well, even when they spend big. But I've never said no risk. Given that they have one "proven" starter under control past this year, I would have signed Corbin, but I understand why some would not. I would have have extended Gibson, I don't understand the inactivity there. And yes, if they could trade for a good pitcher with three or more years of control, I'd give up prospects. I understand the arguments against that, I don't agree with them. Not for a team with deep position players, and almost no pitching under control. That's about the context of this team, but a general principle.
  3. Prove ready in spring training? I hope they aren't deciding in the spring......Mejia is out of options, he's on the 25 man.... How will we know if they are ready if they aren't pitching in the majors?
  4. Neither of which are starters.....I am ok, not thrilled, but ok if they think they can make him an effective reliever. But, IMO, given how many pitchers they have under contract past this year (Berrios and Mejia), they should not take up the fifth spot with a guy like this, with very little track record of success. IMO they need to learn about Mejia, Gonsalves, Stewart, Thorpe, etc this year, so they know how many gaping holes they have next year. I don't think this guy does anything other than block those players and decrease the Twins' knowledge. Hope to be wrong, obviously.
  5. It should be 100% clear that we are talking about getting a plaque......if not, that's 100% what I meant. He is one of the 3 best players ever.
  6. No one is concerned about the money, it's the roster spot.
  7. TX is trying to win? Wow, they need help.
  8. How sad is it that this far into the rebuild, most fans here are unsure anyone other than Berrios and maybe Rosario should be extended? That level of production is disappointing.
  9. Of course, they could have used the next three guys in the minors. Would that have been better? Seems unlikely. No one ever looks at the alternative, using your next three minor league players. The twins worst RPs all put up negative WAR. How would the next three they brought up do?
  10. Add I've said, I want one established player acquired they think is great, and one below that. That seems in line with your findings. Greinke, for example. Or what the Brewers did. Or something like Stanton, but not that much money. Or, the Cardinals when they paid big dollars for an OF and pitcher, which I believe they traded for those two, and then signed them to large extensions, last time they were really good. Or what KC did in trading the number for prospect in the game. Your findings seem to see these teams have several players, not a lot, but one to four, acquired by trade or larger FA deals than MN does. That's consistent with what I'm asking for. One or two bigger investments for more than one or two year deals.
  11. The evidence for signing an expensive player is that the team hasn't spent money? I, um, hmmmm.
  12. Then why is Gibson on the roster? Or even Rosario? Or Polanco? If they are rebuilding, why aren't they going all the way?
  13. How many years in a row would they have to be good to believe in them? Because the core was good in 2017 and the FO made no long term commitments to surround them with talent, and their FA signings were lauded as efficient bargains. If they don't believe in this core, keeping Gibson is terrible strategy. So I'm having a hard time figuring out what they think. Other than not believing in even medium term contracts.
  14. I'm all in on Bonds getting in. Players used all kinds of drugs before him, and after him they still do. But then, I don't really care about the Hall debates. But if there is a Hall, he should be there, no question.
  15. I've answered, I can show decades of your approach not working, across nearly every mid market team. Maybe the lesson is mid market teams are largely doomed no matter what they do.
  16. 17 or 22, Houston ended up with a great pitcher. We won't know about Enlow for years. Houston did it in less time. He asked what I wanted them to do to be more like Houston.....
  17. Be aggressive with promotions, trust your minor league pitchers more (a lot more) to be RPs, draft better after the top pick (when Houston played games, they ended up with a very good pitcher in round 2....the Twins have a big fat question mark with their Canadian).
  18. Maybe we should do this for the Yankees and Red Sox too! Because one data point isn't sufficient, probably. Of course, not trading for players like Dozier in 2017 might be one reason they came up a game short......You also left off that they traded for Machado in 2018, so maybe they decided their plan of not trading for great players didn't work. Now, if every team decides this....well, then there are probably market inefficiencies being created in terms of trade value.
  19. In hindsight, but you don't make decisions with hindsight.
  20. No one is asking them to spend for spends sake. We are asking them to sign better, more expensive, players. To make the team better. If they miraculously end up with too many good players, I'm sure other teams will trade for them. If they end up with a bad team, but the free agents are good, they can trade them. If the free agents all end up bad, then they aren't good at the jobs..... But no one is asking them to spend for any reason other than we are fans and want better players.
  21. They've said they don't do that, not in terms of salary. No, I don't have a link handy.
  22. I can show that your path doesn't work over decades, across multiple teams... perhaps a different, uncharted, path is needed. I've posted this before.... I'm not asking for four big signings, or even three. I'm asking them to make one multi year commitment to a guy they think is an all star quality player, and one multi year commitment to a guy they think is just below that. If they can't afford that, they probably need to be in a different business. This year, they have the same exact holes as last year, plus second base. Why? No long term commitment. So, once again, they need to rely on free agency to fill those holes. I'm not asking them to build their team around free agents or trades. I'm asking for less than that. I'm not asking them to spend above the median range, except in years they think they should go all in. I'm asking them to make a long term commitment to two players they did not draft, who are already major league players. None of that stops them from doing what you want.
  23. I can show you decades of teams with 78 wins that didn't do those things, and then didn't win playoff games, ever. Cincy. Pittsburgh. Minnesota. KC, who when they finally made trades of prospects did win it all. Decades of multiple teams who refused to trade prospects and sign any big free agents, who went on to not win. The Twins signed Jack Morris to one of the biggest deals in MLB history, after a bad year, and won the world series. Sitting around waiting for all the prospects to work.... How has that worked out for most of the mid market teams?
  24. And in 2017 Sano and Buxton were good..... And they still didn't push the chips in.
