  1. It's not a question of can they, but will they. I'm guessing one medium sized trade.
  2. I thought you had posted that they should trade from their surplus (not elite) prospects for a SP (not one year, that part is different).....so maybe I confused you with someone else. Kind of hard to keep it all straight.....
  3. I don't agree. He looks like he could be an elite CF....... I have no idea what his future is. None.
  4. You also pointed out how bad the Samardzija trade was, even though it is exactly the kind of trade you think they should make, so I'm not really sure what you think. Forgive Van and I if we are confused at this point.
  5. So you think he's not good because of a twelve at bat stretch, but you think he's a valuable trade commodity?
  6. We can play the game all day where we point out bad decisions.....but there are certainly good trades also. I'm pretty sure Houston is happy with their deals.....I'm pretty sure KC is happy they won the WS after being aggressive (even if those trades didn't work like anyone thought they would). In one post you say the Twins should make trades and sign free agents, given where they are now, and then you post this. It's really hard to figure out what you actually want them to do. It's clear you don't want them to trade their best prospects, but I'm not sure your example is that. Your example is trading a few well regarded, but not the best, prospects, and it not working. So, I'm not sure what you are proposing. Simien was the Sox's 6th rated prospect, not some star prospect......
  7. Ah, yes, there are many examples of teams trying to buy a good team failing, just as you can look at the Pirates, Reds, and many other teams that have spent decade(s) trying to only build from within and failing. It's not the strategy, it's the execution of the strategy, imo. Teams can be built many ways, but it's player development, scouting, luck, and a willingness to be aggressive when you are a real contender, that seem to be the keys to getting to the playoffs and winning.
  8. The Padres added a long term asset, not a one or even three year asset. No one expected them to be good this year.... But next year or the year after?
  9. The Twins need three starters. They have a low payroll, and Cruz comes off next year..... Are people suggesting they not spend money on pitching? Or just arguing? For those who keep saying the twins should develop pitching, I agree. But there aren't six guys ready, there might be one or two. So where should they get the other three? Instead of always saying what won't work, what do you propose will, for this year, not some distant future?
  10. Lewis' draft position is a sunk cost. He should play where he adds the most value to the MLB team. That might be third, it might not, but his draft position is irrelevant to the discussion at this point. I doubt he hits enough next year to be a consideration, and he certainly isn't to start the year......
  11. Yup. I was overly brief in my response to a post.... Lewis will be lucky to be in Minnesota at all next year.....
  12. That post had nothing to do with next year.... It was about Lewis ever playing third.
  13. For a free agent or three, yes. For many of them? No. Cruz is gone after this coming year, freeing up a lot of money then. There will always be movement of expensive players....
  14. Greinke cost Houston their 3, 4, and 5th rated prospects....so, maybe it would be the Twins 7-9th? We haven't seen that either..... Of course, 3-5 has more value to Houston than 7-9 for MN...because MN has more highly rated prospects right now.
  15. Twins also did not beat the price for Stroman, even though it was two not highly rated players (though both were likely under rated due to their short time in the minors so far).
  16. Look at Zac Gallen, for example.....he cost the 59th (give or take) rated prospect....a price many here were glad MN did not pay. He's a legit 3, maybe 2, with years of control left, and people would rather have a prospect (who would have 1-2 more years of playing time......).
  17. Not to mention at the start of the year, bringing in a number five starter instead of someone else. This mess is their own making.
  18. I'm not missing the point... I'm saying it isn't always that easy.... Also, I'm saying we are still waiting for them to even trade three good prospects for one player, let alone do it multiple times.... And have it work every time.
  19. But they did it. They traded multiple prospects at the deadline for Verlander, and multiple for Cole. And for Pressley. And others. The twins did not really go for it this break. Hopefully that changes now.
  20. My top four, in no order.... Kepler, Cruz, Berrios, Garver.... Though I might vote for Odorrizi with more thought
  21. Of course, Houston just graduated future star Alvarez. But I don't get the point. Isn't it easier to draft if you aren't that good, so shouldn't the twins have more top prospects? Aren't they in a position to trade for prospects going into this last year, not trade from prospects? If they didn't have a lot more that would be bad. If they emulate Houston, they will trade at least eight of those players in the next two years.... So, about the same number....
  22. He'd be my second or third acquisition.... Not the headliner.
  23. I've been on the Gray wagon for years......but he's got less and less team control left, and a longer history of not succeeding like I hope.....that said, I don't think much of CO's FO, and their ability with pitchers, so I'd target him (but then, I've wanted him in MN since the draft.....so what do I know?).....
