  1. Apology for what? And, his agent said they made the best offer. I think players should choose money, so I have no idea what I'd apologise for. Help me understand.....
  2. I have no issue with Cruz's values, as far as I know. My point is clear, all those posts saying players won't come to Minnesota because it's Minnesota, or they aren't good enough, well. ... As his agent said, they gave him the best offer. Many of us have said, players mostly follow the money.
  3. Btw.... Once again we see money is more important than going to a more certain playoff team....

  5. While I've been beating the drum for acquiring longer term assets, I feel pretty good about this signing. A one or two year deal, for a very good to great player is better than the same deal for a mediocre player. If the core plays well, he's potentially helping a run to the playoffs. If not, they can deal him. I hope they get a few pitchers now.
  6. While a decent number of relief pitchers have signed, there are still some out there. I'm not worried yet.
  7. I wish the front office shared your optimism and surrounded the core with a good player or four.
  8. I have strong interest in winning the lottery......
  9. My second most coveted FA this year, but he's going to the Dodgers, Giants, or Mariners, I'd bet.
  10. It should have been obvious to everyone that Hughes was done. If not, the FO has serious scouting issues. Serious. A team that wants to build through the draft and IFA and trading vets for 45 value prospects sold a 2nd round pick. It was all about money, money they aren't going to spend this year.
  11. I'll try again.... If teams thought this, why wasn't he traded for top prospects? Multiple.
  12. Not only that, they traded a valuable draft pick to do so.... Which makes no sense if you entire strategy is to build thru the draft nearly exclusively.
  13. Those outcomes come from bad decisions, and being frugal. Good pitchers are available. That said, you are close to convincing me to consider your idea.
  14. You also make longer commitments to reduce uncertainty. If you have a roster of guys who can leave, it's pretty hard to plan for the future. To answer Nick, if I thought he'd have an era under four for the next few years, of course I'd sign him. But if anyone thought that, it would take more than palacios to acquire him.
  15. No chance. He's a number four or five starter. Why pay for that? And why are we worried about money? They have less than fifty million committed past 2020. Are we trying to win, or win the efficiency prize?
  16. It's about secondary offerings, not durability.
  17. I've certainly read a national writer or two that think he's a GREAT fit for high leverage reliever, and only an OK fit for starter.
  18. I'm more worried they are eyeing JC Penney.....but that's a great analogy. Spot on.
  19. You realize these are the predictions they made going into last year, right?
  20. That should be next year, then, since they don't look like contenders.....
  21. let's say he's good again next year. That would be 2.5 good years, in the majors. Who is more likely to be good, a SP with that track record, or anyone they have in the minors?
  22. I concur on Mejia, not sure how I feel about not liking stacking. IMO, if you can't find 4 good starters, stacking makes sense, if you are trying to win or find out who might be good in a year or two....but almost no team has tried this yet. So maybe the AAA shuttle just won't work like I think it will. But, we agree on Mejia, give him a shot to start.
  23. All good reasons. Of course, he may want to compete and play for a good/great team in the next three years. He also may get more money on the market....athletes tend to bet on themselves. If he likes MN, he should sign an extension, happiness will mean more than a few extra million. If not, he should go the FA route.
