  1. To be clear, I haven't lost faith in the long run. My comment was about this year, even the next couple months. The depth is not there.
  2. The starting pitching depth is looking quite thin right now. Was hoping SWR would just run up the ladder this year to at least be an option.
  3. I don't think it is realistic to assume they sign CC if they still have Donaldson here. Also, it isn't only about this year....as MLR points out. Looking at WPA, MN is doing well in terms of the deal.
  4. Good thing they fired Baldelli, because the new manager pulled all the right strings yesterday...
  5. playoffs 2 of last three years, leading the division this year when almost no one thought they would. 100% of the starting pitching is their creation. I guess we can ignore trading for Ryan? Or Celestino? Or Sanchez (who is much better here than NY the last couple years). Or Archer. Or signing CC? 3B, SS, 1B? Who either acquired or developed those players? Who extended Buxton for "nothing" relative to MLB salaries? but sure, let's only compare them to the three best teams in the league, and ignore they have one of the 8 best records in the game right now.
  6. I'd be working hard to get Montas right now. I see no reason at all to trade for a first baseman. Not with Arraez there. 3B is also a need, but Lewis could be there rather than give up assets to get one (plus, who?). Obviously, near the deadline (assuming they don't collapse), they'll be getting a RP, I'd guess.
  7. If Maeda comes back, the bullpen is much better. That would be huge.
  8. Given how thin the starters are starting to look, it is easy to understand why they did this. The guy got hurt. Anyone claiming to know he'd get hurt is not being truthful. I didn't love the trade, but I understood. They are on pace to win the division for the third time in four years. Claiming they don't have any idea what they are doing seems odd.
  9. I think the struggles of one of the top pitching prospects in AAA is a bigger story, but I get others don't agree.
  10. Kiriloff played first last year, and was great. He is a first baseman. Why not Terry? Because he most likely isn't close to the player the others are. Might be. But not likely.
  11. I'm on the "take the best C or OF or SS train" this year.
  12. how 3B isn't listed here is very confusing.
  13. I think top end starting pitcher is the biggest weakness. We just don't know about any of these guys other than probably Gray and maybe Ryan and Ober. But none of those is elite. LF is fine. Any issues there are short term. 1B? I'd consider Larnach there, but his arm has been surprisingly effective in LF. Arraez is fine there. Really, 3B is the biggest issue, and if the incumbent doesn't hit, Lewis should be there this year. If you look at the bad teams, there isn't much the Twins could use.....other than Montas, imo.
  14. I'm good with that....like I said earlier, I'd have sent Miranda down and played Lewis.
  15. No one is concerned about playing time for bench players, we are concerned how often Lewis plays if he replaces a bench player on the roster. And, is anyone really defending it? I think people are open to it not being stupid, proving the FO doesn't care, etc......
  16. Which was what I was trying to do....clear up roster space. When you look at the leaderboards, there just isn't a lot of space to "fix" this roster right now.
  17. So far. Where else are you improving the roster? 3B is either Gio or Lewis or Miranda. 1B is either Arraez or Miranda or ? DH? Surprisingly, Sanchez is now hitting around 20% better than league average. Not one OF needs replacing. If you like Miranda or Lewis at third, you aren't dealing for one of those. People love Arraez, so he's your 1B or DH, I assume. That leaves C (where they Twins have one of the better combos in the game, that's how bad C is this year across the league).
  18. So, don't trade for a really good SP? I'm ok with that, but people need to stop complaining they aren't trying to win this year then......He's also a top 20 pitcher so far this year.
  19. But now we are off topic, and I'd hate for this devolve over something I just threw out there.
  20. Winder has a handful of appearances, we don't know. Miranda is around the same ranking as Martin (though lower). Winder is ranked ahead of SWR, but he wasn't last year. So, sure, throwing in Arraez is probably too much. Take him out....I'm trying to clear some roster space here too. Frankly, there aren't many ways to make trades for this roster that make sense, other than a great SP.
  21. How so? We have no idea who Winder really is, Arraez has no position on this roster and Miranda? He might be a 1B on this team. If CC leaves and Lewis is at SS, then Miranda might be the 3B (if Lewis isn't). Montas is one of the best SPs in the game and is controlled for another year after this. It is essentially the Berrios deal in reverse.
